Chapter 1: Chapter 1
It was a dark and stormy night. The wind was howling as it ripped through the trees that surrounded her. She couldn't remember what she had been doing before the storm started. All she knew was that she was running through the woods, terrified of what might be waiting for her at the end of her journey.
She had no idea where she was going. She only knew that she had to keep running until she found the place where the monsters lived.
The storm was relentless. It was raining so hard that the ground was becoming saturated. The water was rising, making it almost impossiblefor her to see where she was going.
She had no idea how long she had been running. All she knew was that she had been running for hours.
She had never been this far from home before. She had never even known that there were other places besides the small town she grew up in.
Her legs were beginning to hurt. She had been running for a while now, and she was sure that she would soon collapse if she didn't find somewhere to restsoon.
Her mind was racing. She had no idea what she was going to do when she finally reached the place where the monsters lived. She had heard stories about them from her friends, but she had never believed them.
She had always imagined that they were just stories that her parents told her to scare her into behaving better.
But as she ran through the rain, she could feel her heart pounding in her chest. She could feel her breathing getting heavier and heavier.
She was sure that she was going to die.
She was sure that the monsters would catch her.And then she saw it.
A light in the distance.
It was a house.
She could make out a few windows and some curtains blowing in the wind.
She had no idea how she had managed to find it.
But she was relieved to know that she wasn't alone.
She ran towards the house.
Thedoor was locked, so she knocked on the window.
"Hello?" she called out. "Is anyone home?"
There was no answer.
She knocked again.
"Who's there?" she called out.
She could hear someone moving inside.
Then the door opened.
A man stood in front of her. He was wearing a shirt and pants, but he had no shoes on. His hair was wet, and his face was covered in dirt.
He looked frightened.
"What are you doing here?" he asked. "Who are you?"
"I'm Emma," she said. "I'm running from home."
"You're not supposed to be here," he said. "You need to go back."
"I'm afraid that I can't do that," she said. "My parents are going to kill me."
"If they find you here, they'll kill you," he said. "Go home."
"I can't," she said. "I have to find the monsters."
"Go home," he said. "They're just stories. You're scaringyourself."
"I'm not scared," she said. "I'm afraid."
"Afraid of what?" he asked.
"Of the monsters," she said. "Of what they will do to me."
"Go home," he said. "I'm telling you, they're just stories."
"No," she said. "I have to find them."
"You don't want to do that," he said. "Go home. Go back to your parents."
"I can't," she said. "I'm sorry."
"Then go back," he said. "You're scaring yourself."
"Please," she said. "I need your help."
He stared at her for a moment.
"What is it that you need?" he asked.
"I need to find the monsters," she said. "I need to find the place where they live."
"Why?" he asked.
"Because I have to stop them," she said. "I have to stop them before they kill my parents and everyone else.""Stop who?" he asked.
"The monsters," she said. "The ones that live in the forest."
"The monsters aren't real," he said.
"I know," she said. "That's why I have to find them. I have to stop them before they come after me."
"Who are you talking about?" he asked.
"I don't know their names," she said. "But I know where they live. They live in the forest."
