Chapter 1: Chapter 1
Rigby's stomach was flopping. He was on the roof of his building, looking over the city. The sky was the color of twilight," as his dad used to say, and the clouds were moving in concert with the swansong of the sun as it dipped below the horizon. It was breathtaking, really. But something was wrong. The colors were off, the blues were murky, and the reds were glowing. It was as if the sun had set in a sea of glowing embers'', as one of his friends called them. There were streaks of glowing embers across the sky, like stars on fire that no longer twinkled, but glowed. It was a beautiful sight, but something was wrong.
"What's going on?" Mordecai asked, leaning against the wall beside him. I don't know," he answered honestly. "Everything looks wrong. The birds are glowing. The sky is glowing. The clouds are glowing. It's like the sun is setting in front of a glowing wall of embers. It's beautiful, but it's not right."
"Maybe it's just the light of the city," his friend, the blue jay, said. "You know how it gets dark early in the city, but the suburbs are still light? Maybe that has something to do with it."
Mordecai considered this, but it didn't make sense."Why would the sun go down before it sets?" he asked. "That doesn't make any sense."
"I know," said Rigby with a sigh. "It makes me feel sick, like I should be puking or something."
A chill ran down his spine, and he shivered. It was cold, but not frigid.
