Chapter 1: Introduction

Tom's fingers drummed nervously on the kitchen counter as he watched Ellie stir her coffee, her eyes fixed on the swirling liquid. He knew this conversation was going to be a tough one, but he had to bring it up. He had to see if she was willing to take this leap of faith with him.

"Ellie," he began, his voice steady despite the butterflies in his stomach. "I've been thinking about our situation. We both want a family, and we both know that my... issues are making that difficult."

Ellie looked up from her coffee, her blue eyes meeting his. "Tom, we've talked about this. We can adopt, or we can try more treatments.

We can even look into surrogacy. But there's another option," Tom said, taking a deep breath. "And it's a bit... unconventional."

Ellie raised an eyebrow, setting her coffee mug down on the counter. "Unconventional how?" she asked, her curiosity piqued.

Tom hesitated, then dove in. "Remember Jason, the personal trainer from the gym? He's in a bit of a pickle. He's about to be deported, and he needs a green card to stay in the country."

Ellie nodded slowly, "I remember him. He's the one with the... unique physique, right?"

Tom chuckled softly, "Yeah, that's the one.

Anyway, he's in a bit of a situation. He needs a green card, and fast. And I thought... well, I thought maybe we could help each other out."

Ellie tilted her head, her brow furrowing in confusion. "How do you mean?"

Tom took a deep breath, his heart pounding in his chest. "I mean, what if you married him? Just on paper, of course. It would give him the green card he needs to stay in the country, and in return, he could... help us out with our family planning."

Ellie's eyes widened in surprise. "Tom, are you suggesting what I think you're suggesting?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

"You want me to marry Jason so he can... what, exactly?"

Tom shifted uncomfortably, running a hand through his hair. "So he can impregnate you, Ellie. I know it's crazy, but think about it. We both want a family, and Jason needs a green card. It's a win-win situation."

Ellie was silent for a moment, her mind racing. She looked down at her hands, her fingers tracing the pattern on the countertop. "Tom, that's... that's a huge ask. I mean, we're talking about me having a baby with another man. And what about you? How would you feel about that?"

Tom reached out, taking her hand in his.

"Ellie, I know it's a lot to take in. And I know it's not a conventional solution. But we both want a family, and this could be our way to make that happen. I trust you, and I trust Jason. And I know that this would be purely for the sake of having a baby. Nothing more. And as for how I feel about it... I love you, Ellie. I want what's best for you, and for us. And if this is what it takes, then I'm willing to consider it."

Ellie looked up at him, her eyes searching his face. "And what about Jason? How does he feel about all this?

We haven't even talked to him yet. Ellie said, her voice barely above a whisper.

Tom sighed, "I know, that's the next step. I wanted to talk to you first, to see if you'd even consider it. If you're on board, I can reach out to him and see if he's willing to go through with it."

Ellie nodded slowly, her mind still racing. "And what if he says no? Or what if he wants more than just a green card? What if he wants a real marriage, or... or something else?"

Tom squeezed her hand reassuringly. "I don't think that'll be an issue. Jason's a good guy, Ellie.

He's been through a lot, and he just wants a chance to stay in the country. I think he'll be willing to help us out. But like I said, that's a conversation for another time. Right now, I just want to know if you're open to the idea. If you're not, that's okay too. We can figure something else out."

Ellie took a deep breath, her eyes meeting Tom's. "I need some time to think about it, Tom. It's a lot to take in, and I want to make sure I'm making the right decision for both of us."

Tom nodded, giving her hand a gentle squeeze. "Of course, take all the time you need.

I'm not rushing you into anything, Ellie. I just wanted to put the idea out there, see where you stood on it." Tom leaned back against the counter, his eyes never leaving Ellie's face. He could see the gears turning in her head, the way her brow furrowed as she worked through the implications of his proposal.

Ellie took a sip of her coffee, her gaze drifting to the window and the cityscape beyond. The sun was beginning to set, casting long shadows across the room. "I know you're right, Tom. We both want a family, and this could be a way to make that happen. But it's just...

it's a big step, you know?" Ellie said, her voice soft. "I mean, we're talking about bringing another person into our lives, into our bed. It's not something I take lightly."

Tom nodded, understanding the weight of her words. "I know, Ellie. And I wouldn't ask you to do it if I didn't think it was a viable solution. But I also know that you're brave, and you're willing to go the extra mile for what you want. For what we want."

Ellie looked back at him, a small smile playing at the corners of her mouth. "You make it sound so simple, Tom.

But it's not just about wanting something. It's about the reality of it. It's about the logistics, the emotions, the... intimacy. She turned to face him fully, her eyes searching his. "And what about you? How do you feel about sharing me with another man? About knowing that I'll be... with him?"

Tom took a deep breath, his expression softening. "It's not easy to think about, Ellie. But I trust you. And I trust that this is something we're doing together, for us. I know it's not conventional, but neither is our situation.

Tom said, his voice gentle yet firm. "And I know it's not going to be easy, but we've faced challenges before, and we've always come out stronger. I believe in us, Ellie. I believe in you."

Ellie nodded slowly, her eyes welling up with tears. "I believe in us too, Tom. And I believe in this. I just... I need some time to process it all. To wrap my head around the idea of... of being with someone else."

Tom reached out, cupping her cheek in his hand. "Take all the time you need, Ellie.
