Chapter 1: Mirror, Mirror on the Wall

The orange glow from the pumpkin candles on the dresser licked at the walls, making our shadows writhe like ghosts. Outside, the bass from a neighbor’s party thumped a steady, dull rhythm, a heartbeat for the night. In here, it was just us, the soft hum of the TV, and the scent of warm wax and my perfume.

I did a final spin in front of the full-length mirror, the fabric of the micro-skirt sticking to my thighs for a second before flying up. “Well?” I said, popping a bubble with my gum. The pink and blue wig felt alien but fun, the corset digging into my ribs in a way that promised both punishment and praise. “So, baby, do I look like the kind of girl who’s gonna come home with three different men’s cum dripping down her thighs?”

From the bed, Ritchie let out a low chuckle. His fingers paused on the TV remote, the blue light from some nature documentary flickering across his face. He was already in his worn gray sweats, a book splayed open next to him. My sanctuary. My anchor. “You look like trouble,” he said, his voice a warm rumble that contrasted with the chill creeping in from the window I’d cracked open. “The kind that gets a standing ovation.”

I grinned, turning back to the mirror. I adjusted the corset again, my 34HH breasts swelling over the top, the fishnets a second skin on my legs. No bra, no underwear. Just the thrilling vulnerability of it, the promise of the night. “That’s the goal.”

“You sure you don’t want to just… stay in?” he asked, not for the first time. He gestured to the TV with the remote. “They’re about to dive into a bioluminescent bay. It’s all glowy. You like glowy.”

I walked over to the bed, the heels making my ass swing in a way I knew he was watching. I leaned down, bracing my hands on either side of his legs, my cleavage practically in his face. The synthetic strands of the wig brushed his cheek. “I love glowy,” I whispered, kissing the corner of his mouth. I tasted the coffee he’d had an hour ago. “But I need loud. I need… chaos.”

He cupped the back of my neck, his thumb stroking the sensitive skin there. His eyes, the color of dark earth, were serious. “I know you do.” He didn’t say it with resentment, just a quiet acceptance of this fundamental difference between us. He loved the quiet of our room; I loved the storm outside. “Just be careful.”

“Always am.” I winked, standing up straight. The corset creaked.

“Text me if you leave with anyone.”

“I will.” It was our rule. A thread of trust in the open space between us.

He smirked, a real one this time, his eyes crinkling. “And try not to give any old men a heart attack. That outfit is a public health hazard.”

I laughed, a loud, genuine sound that felt good. “No promises!”.

I blew Ritchie a kiss from the doorway. He’d already picked up his book, his focus shifting back to his quiet world.

“Love you,” he said, not looking up.

“Love you more.”

I pulled the door shut, the sound of the television dying instantly. The thumping bass from outside took its place, swelling to fill the hallway. The air changed, too, smelling of cold night, damp leaves, and the faint, sweet scent of weed from a party down the street.

I took a deep breath, the corset tight against my lungs, and stepped out into the October darkness. The chaos welcomed me like an old friend.
