Chapter 1: Introduction
As I sat nursing my third cup of lukewarm coffee, I couldn't help but feel the weight of my solitude pressing down on me like a heavy woollen blanket. The cafe was filled with laughter and chatter, but I couldn't shake off the feeling of being a solitary figure amidst the sea of festive cheer. My gaze drifted towards the window, where the remnants of snowflakes danced in the air as if taking part in a slow waltz with the wind. It was Christmas Eve, after all, when everyone was supposed to be surrounded by loved ones, sharing stories and exchanging gifts.
Instead, I found myself lost in a trance, staring blankly at the condensation forming on the windowpane, only half-listening to the muted conversations around me. My fingers fidgeted with the paper napkin on the table, crumpling it until it resembled a tiny origami sculpture. In the reflection of the glass, I could see a young woman sitting alone at a table not too far from mine. She seemed to be in her mid-twenties, with shoulder-length blonde hair and striking green eyes that held a hint of sadness within their depths.
