super gentle intimate encounter in the Dreaming between Morpheus/Dream of the Endless and you

Chapter 1: Whispers in the Willow Grove

That night, when the mortal world fell into sleep, Dream stood once more before the lattice. He had withdrawn, as he had sworn to his brother and to himself. He had forbidden Jessamy to linger, had turned his gaze aside from the silver thread that wound through the tapestry of dreams.

And yet.

Your thread stirred. It always stirred—flickering soft as breath, weaving simple shapes of rest and labor. But tonight, it pulsed. Not with fear, not with longing, but with a jagged rhythm that tore against the weave. It was the pattern of pain.

Dream’s shadows shifted restlessly. His eyes fixed upon the thread despite himself, pale and unblinking. He did not enter. He did not touch. But he felt it—the raw distress echoing through the fabric, sharp enough to draw the whole lattice taut around it.

Jessamy circled above him, feathers unsettled. She had obeyed his command in silence, but tonight she croaked low, uneasy.

Dream lifted his hand, curt, though his voice was quiet. “Ignore it.”

The raven shifted, restless, her claws scraping stone.

He closed his eyes, but the pulse remained. Each beat of your pain rippled outward, touching the Dreaming itself.

He had done as Destruction asked. He had done as Lucienne counseled. He had withdrawn.

And yet the lattice quivered, aching, because you suffered.

He told himself it was nothing. That mortals bled, and wept, and cried out beneath rods and canes every day, and the Dreaming did not falter for it. That pain was their portion, as fleeting as their lives.

But this was not like the others.

Your thread trembled wildly, frayed at the edges, as though grasping for something beyond itself. And in the shimmer of its light, he felt it—your searching. Not for rest. Not for release. For him.

The lattice bent beneath it. Each pulse of pain carried that same wordless plea, the same reaching that shook his resolve. He had sworn he would not enter. He had promised he would not meddle.

Jessamy let out another croak, low and mournful. Her wings shivered in the hush.

Dream’s shadows roiled around him, his jaw clenched. His hand lifted and fell again, torn between command and longing.

She seeks you. The thought pressed like a whisper against the inside of his skull, relentless, undeniable. She calls, though she does not know your name.

The thread flared suddenly, violently. The dream it wove collapsed into darkness, shredded by pain. Dream’s chest tightened; he could feel it, the raw ache of your body, the helpless curl of your soul.

And in that moment, his restraint shattered.

He stepped into the dream, pulling you back into it before you left his realm.

The darkness that had devoured you thinned beneath his presence, the black torn back like veils before a storm. You lay curled on the ground, shoulders drawn tight, the echo of the cane still cracking in the air. Each blow had imprinted itself upon your mind, looping endlessly, a nightmare built not from imagination but from memory.

You flinched as the lash rose again.

But then—silence.

The figure at the edge of the dream caught it mid-swing. His shadows poured outward, swallowing the specter whole until nothing remained but stillness. His long coat stirred around him though no wind blew, his pale eyes cutting through the gloom.

You gasped, lifting your head. In the dream, your face was free of dirt and blood, yet your gaze still trembled with pain. You knew him—not as the pale lord whose lips had once brushed yours in the waking world, but as the dark sentinel who had haunted your nights, shadowed and watchful.

“Y—you,” you whispered, voice breaking.

He did not answer at once. For a long moment he only looked at you, expression carved from silence. The lattice pressed close around him, demanding he withdraw, reminding him of his vow. But he had already broken it.

At last, he spoke, his voice low, resonant, inevitable. “You are safe here. None will strike you again.”

The dream shifted at his word. The stones beneath you softened to grass, the air eased of its choking weight. Still, you stared at him, chest rising and falling quick.

Your lips parted, a question struggling to form. Who are you? Why do you come to me?

But all that passed your mouth was a trembling plea. “Don’t leave me.”

The words struck through him like iron.

Dream’s eyes closed for a heartbeat, his jaw set. He knew he should go. He knew he should never have stepped into your dream again.

The dream steadied around you, shadows quieting, though the ache of your back still pulsed like fire beneath your skin. He stood before you—cloaked, silent, his eyes like stars held in a depthless sky.

Your throat tightened. You had seen this figure before, always on the edge of your dreams, always just beyond reach. He had never come close. Never spoken. Until now.

Your lips trembled around the words, but they broke free anyway. “Show yourself… please.”

For a long moment he did not move. His face was hidden still in shadow, as though the dream itself fought to guard him. But then, with a slow inevitability, he extended his hand.

Your fingers shook as you reached for him. The moment your skin touched his, the veil fell away. The shadow peeled back like mist at dawn.

And you saw him.

The pale lord from the waking world. The one who had stood in Sir Robert’s hall, who had bowed so solemnly, who had pressed his lips against yours beneath the orchard branches.

Your breath caught, sharp and ragged. The familiarity struck you like thunder muffled in velvet. “You—”

His gaze held yours, unyielding, solemn. No denial, no excuse. Only the truth of him, terrible and inevitable.

“Yes,” he said quietly, the word low as a vow.

Your fingers clutched tighter around his hand, as though to anchor yourself to the only thing that made sense in the fractured dream.

The lord you had kissed in waking. The shadow who had haunted your dreams. They were one.

Your fingers clutched tighter around his hand. His touch was cool, unyielding, but alive—far too alive for dream-stuff.

Your voice broke out, trembling, urgent. “What are you? How… how are you here? This isn’t just a dream. You feel too real.”

His gaze did not waver. Shadows folded around him, silent as breath.

For a long moment he said nothing. Then, at last, he inclined his head, his voice low, resonant: “You are right. I am not merely a dream.”

The words struck through you like thunder muffled in velvet.

He stepped closer, pale eyes cutting through the dark. “I am called Morpheus,” he said, each syllable slow and deliberate. “Lord of Dreams. Warden of sleep. The shadow you have felt in the night, and the man you kissed beneath the orchard boughs—both are me.”

Your heart stumbled against your ribs. The ache of the beating, the sting of humiliation, the endless nights—it all seemed to tilt under the weight of his words.

“That’s not possible,” you whispered. “You’re… you’re a story. A myth.”

He did not smile. “Perhaps. And yet I stand before you.”

Your lips parted, a question trembling at the edge. “Then… you’re real.”

His gaze did not falter. “I am real,” he said quietly, “but not as you are. I am a dream given shape. I am Endless.”

The dream shifted at his words: the darkness peeled back, the grass beneath your knees grew soft, and the air eased, as if his will alone had remade it.

And you were left staring at him—at Morpheus—your pulse hammering, your disbelief trembling against something older, something vast.

Your knees buckled and you sank back onto the soft grass of the dream, your hands trembling. The world around you stilled, the echo of the lash gone, replaced by a hush so complete it felt like the pause between heartbeats.

Morpheus did not stay standing above you. Slowly, deliberately, he went down on one knee, then the other, until he was level with you in the grass. His long coat spilled around him like night pooling at your feet. The pale light of the dream caught in his eyes; for the first time you saw not only the Endless, but a man.

Your voice wavered. “The… Endless. I’ve read about you. In old books. Fragments. A long time ago. There are more of you. I never thought…” you swallowed hard, eyes fixed on his. “I don’t understand.”

He inclined his head, shadows quieting around him. “There are more,” he said softly. “We are siblings. Each of us an aspect of what is eternal. But I am the one who walks your sleep. The one whose name you called without knowing.”

You searched his face, desperate, confused. “Why me? Why would the Lord of Dreams… come to me?”

He hesitated, a flicker of something unguarded moving across his expression. His pale fingers lifted—not to command, but to steady—hovering just at your cheek.

“Because I could not stay away,” he said quietly. “Because, against my own vow, I have watched you. Because in your silence, in your pain, I found myself drawn closer and closer.”

Your breath caught. His words were low but sure, not a confession like a mortal man’s, but something older, heavier, shaped into his own language.

“I swore never again to feel for one such as you,” he went on, voice like the hush before a tide breaks. “And yet…” his thumb brushed the edge of your trembling hand, “…here I am.”

For a moment, the dream held both of you—lord and mortal—kneeling at the same level, his eyes fixed on yours with a depth that was not just power, but feeling.

The grass bent under your trembling weight, the dream hushed and waiting. He was still kneeling before you, his presence vast and terrible and yet—here, now—so achingly close.

Your breath came uneven, your voice thin. “You shouldn’t… you shouldn’t feel that. Not for me. I am nothing.”

His pale eyes burned into yours, steady and unyielding. “You are not nothing.”

The words rang like iron, final and absolute.

You shook your head, tears stinging. “I’m just—”

His hand lifted then, slowly, giving you time to flinch away if you wished. When you didn’t, his fingers brushed against your cheek. Cool, reverent, steady. Shadows folded low around him as if even the Dreaming itself bowed to the gesture.

“You are seen,” he murmured, his thumb sweeping away the trace of a tear. “And no lash will ever touch you here.”

The ache of your wounds flared—and then softened. The bruises along your back, the raw sting of your hands, even the hollow weight of despair—faded under his touch. In their place was warmth, steady as the tide, flooding through you until your body remembered what it felt like not to hurt.

You stared at him, trembling. “Why are you doing this?”

His voice was low, inevitable. “Because I care for you. More than I should. More than I am permitted.”

The admission left him still as stone, as though the realm itself held its breath. His hand remained at your cheek, cool and gentle, the only anchor in the impossible vastness of the dream.

And for the first time, you felt it was not just a pale lord or a shadow in your sleep who looked at you— but a man, Endless though he was, who could not help but feel.

Your breath hitched, your fingers trembling as you searched his face. The words tumbled out before you could stop them, soft and raw:

“I’m not deserving of this… of you. Attention such as yours is not given to mortals. It isn’t ours to have. It isn’t mine to love someone like you.”

Your thumb brushed the cool line of his jaw without thinking, a tiny, fragile caress against the impossible being kneeling before you.

For a heartbeat he did not answer. The Dreaming itself seemed to still, shadows folding closer, as if the whole realm leaned in to listen.

Morpheus’s eyes closed, lashes dark against his pale skin. He leaned infinitesimally into your touch — not a lord accepting tribute, but a man starved of it. The smallest tremor passed through him, like a tide breaking against stone.

When his eyes opened again they were fathomless and unguarded. He did not speak.

Instead, with a slowness that gave you every chance to draw back, he raised his hand to yours where it rested against his face, covering it with his own long fingers. His other hand slid to the back of your neck, cool and steady.

And then he bent toward you.

His mouth found yours not like a storm but like a tide — cool at first, reverent, almost tentative, the barest brush of lips tasting of starlight and rain. The Dreaming shivered around you, grass bending, constellations wheeling low overhead.

When you didn’t pull away, he deepened the kiss a fraction, the ache of restraint still in him but breaking, his thumb stroking once at your jaw as if to anchor himself in the reality of you.

It was not the kiss of a pale lord dispensing favor. It was the kiss of someone who had sworn never again to feel and yet, despite himself, could not help but fall.

The dream held both of you in its hush, endless and mortal kneeling together, and for a moment the whole lattice seemed to tremble — not with pain, but with the echo of something new.

His lips lingered a moment longer, cool and reverent, as if even the Endless himself could be undone by the fragile press of your mouth. Then, slowly, he drew back. His hand remained at your cheek, his thumb still stroking lightly, but his pale eyes searched yours as though he feared you might vanish.

Your breath trembled against his and the hush between you did not break. Only the soft sound of your breathing, and his.

His mouth returned to yours, firmer now, more certain, and your body leaned helplessly into the press of him. His hand slid from your cheek to cradle the curve of your neck, tilting your face as if you were something precious to be studied, savored. The other gathered you close, his coat falling around you like a curtain of night.

The grass beneath softened into a bed of warmth at his will, but you hardly noticed—only the weight of him, the cool silk of his fingers, the aching reverence in the way he touched you.

You clutched at him, pulling him down with you, and he obeyed without resistance. He lowered you to the earth as though laying you among stars, his long frame braced above yours. Shadows stirred like a heartbeat around you both, folding close, sealing you away from every lash and lash-memory.

His lips brushed along your jaw, the line of your throat, lingering as if each new inch was a prayer. A sound caught low in his chest—restrained, reverent.

His lips trailed lower, mapping you with devotion. Every press of his mouth felt like a vow, every graze of his teeth a reminder that you were not invisible, not forgotten, but utterly seen.

The ties of your garment loosened beneath his deft fingers, each knot unworked slowly, giving you time to breathe, to choose. His mouth followed the path he uncovered, reverent as though your skin were parchment inscribed with a secret he had long sought.

Your trembling hands found the edge of his coat, pushing it back from his shoulders until it spilled away like night undone. Beneath, he was lean, strong, unfamiliar to your touch—yet not untouchable. You traced him hesitantly at first, then with growing need, smoothing across the line of his chest, the fall of his collarbone. His breath caught, a faint shudder, as if your mortal hands could shake even an Endless.

Shadows curled around you both, not to bind but to shield, folding you away from all else. The grass beneath grew impossibly soft, a bed woven by his will. Above, the stars lowered themselves, constellations dissolving into rivers of light that crowned you both.

When the last of the fabric gave way, he paused. He did not devour you with his gaze. He honored. His eyes traced you with awe, as though you were something rare and unrepeatable. \

Slowly, he lowered himself, his hand sliding along your hip, his mouth brushing once at your shoulder before finding yours again. This kiss was different. Deeper. Hungrier. A surrender to the current pulling them both under. The cool pressure of his lips ignited a warmth that spread through your limbs, erasing the last phantom ache of the cane, replacing it with a trembling urgency. You arched against him, seeking more of that impossible contact, the silk of his skin against yours, the solid reality of him.

His long fingers traced the curve of your spine, deliberate, mapping the landscape of your body as if memorizing it. Each touch was a spark, a silent question answered by the gasp you couldn’t hold back. He moved with a slowness that was agonizing and exquisite, exploring the dip of your waist, the swell of your hip, the sensitive skin just below your navel. His touch wasn't demanding; it was worshipping. As if you were the dream, fragile and precious.

"Y/N," he murmured against your collarbone, your name a sigh that resonated in the stillness.

The sound of it, spoken by him here, unraveled something inside you. You tangled your hands in his impossibly dark hair, pulling him closer. "Morpheus," you breathed back, the name foreign yet utterly right on your tongue. It felt like calling down lightning. He shuddered, a ripple of pure sensation passing through him at the sound.

His restraint frayed. The careful reverence gave way to a deeper need. His mouth moved lower, trailing kisses that seared across your skin, finding the peak of your breast. You cried out, fingers tightening in his hair as sensation exploded, bright and sharp. He lingered there, worshipping with lips and tongue, until your body was trembling wire, taut and singing.

His mouth moved lower still, tracing the taut plane of your stomach. Each kiss was a brand, cool fire igniting beneath your skin, erasing the lingering phantom ache of the cane, replacing it with a trembling urgency that coiled deep and hot. You arched, seeking more of that impossible contact, the silk of his skin against the fever of yours, the solid, undeniable reality of him anchoring you in the swirling dream. His long fingers followed, mapping the landscape of your body with deliberate reverence – the dip of your waist, the crest of your hip, the sensitive skin below your navel. Each touch was a spark, a silent question answered by the gasp you couldn’t stifle. Agonizingly slow. Exquisitely thorough. Worshipping.
