Chapter 2: Building Tension
Mark nodded his approval and soon enough, they were all standing up to leave.
The air outside was thick with moisture, leaving a faint glow on the horizon from the distant streetlights. Walking side by side, their fingers laced together securely, Alice couldn't help but note the quiet tension emanating from Emily. It was obvious that she was nervous, her usually composed demeanour replaced by a sense of uncertainty. Alice couldn't blame her though - after all, they had only met once before and that too under completely different circumstances.
Mark hailed an uber and while he rode in the front the girls shared the back seat, their stocking clad legs rubbing against each other in anticipation of the night ahead.
