She was dying.
A scream pierced through her consciousness, ripping her attention away from the pain. The scream was her own. I need help!" she screamed to the sky. "Please, somebody help me!"
Mary didn't know where she was. She felt cold, clammy, like she was coated in ice.The air smelt wrong, the air was thick with a sour stench that made her want to retch. She coughed again, blood splashing the sand behind her. Her legs buckled under her, threatening to make her collapse face-first into the dirt. But she refused to give in, clinging to the last moments of her life like a life preserver.
