Chapter 1: Chapter 1
Eilse sat in the rocking chair by the fire pit, her back supported by the wooden frame and her legs stretched out beneath her as she gazed at the stars. They twinkled above her, catching the last light of the sun as it set behind the trees and the sky grew darker and darker, the stars taking over as the moon rose and the shadows lengthened.It was beautiful, she thought, and peaceful. She closed her eyes and let her mind wander, her imagination running wild as she pictured the world asThe air was clean and pure, the kind of air that made you want to breathe it in and smell it all around you. The smell of the pine trees was strong, the earth soft and rich, the animals healthy and in their element. There was no litter, no smog, no factories, no waste. It was a place where nature thrived and was not disturbed by man.The world was a beautiful place, she thought, and it was hers.
She opened her eyes again, staring at the empty chair a reminder of what she had lost. Her eyes welled with tears, but she blinked them back, not wanting to give in to the floodgates just yet. It was only a chair, after all.
