Chapter 2: Building Tension
: "The Rhythm of Us"
---
The air inside the concert venue was thick with the scent of sweat, spilled beer, and the faint metallic tang of adrenaline. Neon lights pulsed in time with the music, casting jagged, shifting shadows across the sea of bodies. The bass thrummed through Shiven’s bones, vibrating in his chest like a second heartbeat, and he found himself leaning into the rhythm, his body swaying instinctively. The crowd was a living, breathing thing—waves of people surging forward, then retreating, their movements hypnotic and intoxicating.
Shiven gripped Advika’s waist, pulling her closer as the bassline kicked in, her body pressing against his. The heat of her skin seeped through the thin fabric of her dress, and he could feel the way her breath hitched every time the music dropped into a low, throbbing groove.
*"You’re doing it again,"* she murmured against his ear, her voice a whisper over the roar of the crowd. *"Distracting me."*
*"And you’re letting me,"* he replied, his lips brushing the shell of her ear. *"What’s a guy gotta do to get your attention?"*
She laughed, the sound sharp and bright, but her fingers tightened on his shoulders.
"You're not playing fair, Shiven."
"Who said anything about playing fair?" he whispered, his breath hot on her neck. "I just want to dance with you, Advika. Is that so wrong?"
She shivered, her body pressing closer to his. "No, it's not wrong. It's just... dangerous."
"Dangerous?" He pulled back slightly, his eyes searching hers. "What do you mean?"
She bit her lip, her gaze flickering away for a moment before returning to his. "You know what I mean, Shiven. We've been dancing around this for years. And now... now it feels like we're on the edge of something.
Like one wrong move and we'll tumble over into something we can't take back."
Shiven's grip on her waist tightened, his thumb tracing slow circles on her hip. "Maybe we don't want to take it back," he said, his voice low and steady. "Maybe we want to see where this goes."
Advika's breath hitched, her eyes locked onto his. I don't know if I can handle that. I don't want to ruin our friendship."
Shiven's gaze softened, his fingers brushing a strand of hair away from her face. "We won't ruin it, Advika. I promise. We'll take it slow, figure it out as we go. But first come here" he whispered, pulling her closer, his lips brushing against hers. She hesitated for a moment, her eyes searching his, before she leaned in, her lips meeting his in a soft, tentative kiss. It was like a spark igniting, a flame catching fire, and suddenly they were lost in each other, their bodies pressed together, their lips moving in sync with the music, with the rhythm of their hearts.
The world around them faded away, the crowd, the noise, the lights, all of it disappearing as they lost themselves in the kiss. Shiven's hands roamed her body, tracing the curve of her waist, the swell of her hips, the softness of her thighs.
His touch was like a brand, marking her as his, and Advika couldn't help but melt into him, her fingers tangling in his hair, pulling him closer. The music pulsed around them, a heartbeat that matched their own, and for a moment, it felt like they were the only two people in the world.
*"Advika,"* Shiven whispered against her lips, his voice rough with desire. *"I need you."*
She pulled back slightly, her breath coming in short, sharp gasps. *"Shiven, we can't do this here,"* she murmured, her voice barely audible over the music.
