Chapter 4: Rising Action
: Morning Awakenings
The early morning sunlight filtered through the dense canopy of the forest, casting dappled shadows on the ground like a soft, golden blanket. The birds were just beginning to stir, their melodious songs weaving through the air like a symphony composed by nature itself. The serene camp was still blanketed in a gentle, dew-kissed mist, the kind that clings to the earth after a peaceful night's rest.
Lucifer had awoken early on his first day at the retreat, dressed Nora like a pretty little whore and set her upon Jason, who she took back to his tent, presumably to corrupt him further, as Luci had commanded. He’d then visited Sarah, seeing the intense arousal he’d instilled in her had her masturbating furiously. He convinced her to fully accept her place as a completely subservient creature, a being with no objection to any order or request. From there, he’d gotten Danny, making him a gay man who enjoys watching his now platonic wife and best friend get fucked by men he’s attracted to.
After Danny’s liberation, Luci had left Sarah and Danny’s tent, leaving them to process and accept their new reality.
Now, Luci was standing at the edge of the forest, the sun rising over the trees, casting everything in a warm, golden glow. The camp was still quiet, the other campers still sleeping, unaware of the corruption that had begun to spread through their midst.
Luci took a deep breath, the scent of pine and damp earth filling his lungs. He could feel the power of nature, the raw, untamed energy that pulsed through the forest, and it filled him with a sense of exhilaration, of joy.
He knew that he was supposed to be corrupting these people, twisting them to his will, but in moments like these, he couldn't help but feel a deep, profound sense of awe and appreciation for the world around him.
As he stood there, taking in the beauty of the morning, he heard a rustling in the bushes behind him. He turned to see Nora emerging from the underbrush, her clothes disheveled and her hair a wild mess. She looked up at him, her eyes wide and frightened, her chest heaving with exertion.
"Luci," she gasped, her voice barely above a whisper.
"Luci, I... I can't do it. I can't... I can't corrupt Jason. I'm sorry, I tried, but I... I couldn't."
Luci raised an eyebrow, a smirk playing at the corner of his mouth. "Come now, Nora. You're a big girl. You knew what I expected from you. You can't tell me you didn't enjoy yourself."
Nora shook her head, her eyes wide with panic. "No, Luci, I... I'm sorry. I just can't. It's wrong, it's so wrong. I can't...
I can't do this, Luci," Nora stammered, her voice barely above a whisper as she wrung her hands together nervously. "I tried, I really did. But... but I just can't. It felt wrong, so wrong."
Luci chuckled, a low, throaty sound that sent a shiver down Nora's spine. "Wrong, Nora? Since when have you cared about what's wrong or right? You're supposed to be a good little Christian girl, aren't you?
Always following the rules, always doing what's expected of you." Luci's voice was a low, taunting purr, his eyes gleaming with dark amusement as he took a step closer to Nora, invading her personal space.
"But here you are, breaking rules, giving into temptation. It seems to me, Nora, that you're not as good or as pious as you thought you were." Luci's voice was like a whip, lashing out at Nora, exposing her hypocrisy, her hidden desires. “You told me you understood your place, that you’d honor God as his divine whore, his corrupting slut and temptress. But you lied to me, you lied to God.” He shook his head, ensuring that Nora felt he was disappointed in her. "You led me to believe that you wanted this, that you were ready to embrace your true nature, to serve God in a truly divine way. But I see now that you were lying, that you were too afraid to truly let go of your old self and embrace the darkness within you."
Nora's eyes welled up with tears, the weight of her guilt and shame bearing down on her. I tried, Luci. I really did. But... but it was too much. It felt so wrong, so... so dirty."
Luci took another step closer, his voice softening as he reached out to cup her cheek, his thumb brushing away a stray tear. “I don’t believe you, Nora. I don’t think you really did try. You chose to lie to me, to fail your divine duty to God, who has done nothing but love and support you. I suppose I’ll just have to tell Pastor Michael that you’ve turned your back on your faith, that you’ve abandoned God and Christianity, and that you should be made to leave, before you can ruin the others.” Luci taunted, pushing a deep sense of disappointment in Nora. He could see the mix of fear and shame in her eyes, the way her body trembled as she tried to hold back the tears. He knew he had her right where he wanted her, vulnerable and desperate for his approval.
He turned away from her, facing towards the cabins. “But first, I’m going to check on Jason, see what you’ve done to him, how you’ve betrayed his trust. I just hope you haven’t irreparably damaged him, his faith, and his heart.” He said coldly, moving towards Jason’s cabin, interested to see how Nora handles his dismissal and disappointment. Nora let out a small whimper, her body trembling with fear and shame. She knew that she had let Luci down, had failed in her duty to corrupt Jason. But more than that, she had failed herself, had failed to embrace the darkness within her, to truly break free from the chains of her past.
She watched as Luci disappeared into Jason’s cabin, her heart pounding in her chest as she wondered what he would find. She knew that Jason was a good man, a kind man, and she couldn't bear the thought of hurting him, of corrupting him.
But she also knew that she had to try, had to follow through on her promise to Luci, to God. She had to try to save Jason, to guide him back to the path of righteousness, even if it meant sacrificing her own innocence, her own purity.
Nora took a deep breath, steeling herself for what was to come. She knew that Luci would be angry, would be disappointed in her. She knew that he would punish her, would make her pay for her failure. But she also knew that she had to stand strong, had to stay true to her faith, to her convictions.
Luci knocked lightly and entered Jason’s cabin. “Hey, Jason, you okay in here? I saw Nora run away and wasn’t sure what happened between you two.” He said, his tone as sincere as he can. He walked in to find Jason sitting on his bed, his head in his hands, his shirt torn and his hair disheveled.
“What the hell happened here, Jason?” Luci asked, his eyes narrowing as he took in the state of the man before him.
Jason looked up, his eyes filled with a mix of fear, anger, and confusion. “What do you care, Luci? You sent Nora to corrupt me, and now you’re here to finish the job, aren’t you?” he snapped, his voice shaking with emotion. “Corrupt you?
That’s not my style, Jason,” Luci replied, his voice smooth and soothing, as he walked further into the cabin, his eyes scanning the room. “I just wanted to make sure you were okay. Nora seemed... troubled when she left.”
Jason sighed, running a hand through his hair. “She was troubled alright. She practically attacked me. I don’t know what got into her.”
Luci raised an eyebrow, maintaining his facade of soothing sincerity. “Oh gosh, Jason, I’m so sorry. I really thought Nora liked you. She seemed so sincere when she asked me to help her talk to you, to… see if you’d be interested in her the way she was with you. I can’t imagine what would have caused such… aggressive behavior.” Luci said, his voice laced with concern as he took a seat beside Jason on the bed. He placed a comforting hand on Jason’s shoulder, his thumb gently rubbing the tense muscle.
Jason looked up at Luci, his eyes searching for any sign of deceit. “She was dressed so different today, all dressed up like some sort of… I don’t know, some sort of… slutty fairy, I mean, you saw her, no underwear whatsoever, her skirt little more than a flowy belt, her… breasts and nipples bulging out of her top obscenely. Once she came in here with me, she was so seductive and sensual, I got all wrapped in it and… fuck, she smelt so good and she felt so nice pressed against me. But then, she started to… to touch me, to kiss me, and it felt all wrong. I mean, I tried to push her away, but she wouldn't have it, she was so… insistent. And I never wanted to hurt her, so I just let her… do her thing." Jason's voice trailed off, his eyes cast downward, his cheeks flushed with embarrassment.
Luci's pulse quickened as he listened to Jason's account, his hand still gently rubbing Jason's shoulder, offering him comfort and support.
He knew that Nora had failed in her task, but this was no time to dwell on her shortcomings. Now was the time to capitalize on the situation, to turn Jason's discomfort into an opportunity for further corruption.
"I'm so sorry you had to go through that, Jason," Luci said, his voice soft and sympathetic. "But sometimes, things can be misinterpreted. Maybe Nora was just a little too eager, a little too... passionate."
Jason looked up at Luci, his eyes filled with confusion and uncertainty. "But she was dressed like... like a whore, Luci. And she was acting like one too.
I don't know, maybe I'm just old-fashioned, but I thought people were supposed to... I don't know, get to know each other before... before they just start making out and... and groping each other." Jason's voice trailed off, his cheeks flushing a deeper shade of red as he struggled to put his feelings into words.
Luci nodded, his expression one of understanding and empathy. "You're right, Jason. You're absolutely right. There's nothing wrong with being old-fashioned. In fact, I admire that about you. You're a man of principle, of integrity. You and Nora, you’ve worked together for several years now, at the church, even though you’ve been in different positions. Perhaps, she thought there was more between you than you felt?” Luci posited. “As well, I know that within purity teachings, sometimes things get stressful for young women once they experience feelings for someone. They have spent so long trying to be pure and chaste but have been told they need to be seductive in order to appeal to men. If I had to guess, I think Nora got pretty mixed up somehow about what she wanted.” Luci continued in his soothing tone, his thumb still gently rubbing circles against Jason’s shoulder. “She might have thought she could just ‘turn it on’ and ‘turn it off’ when it came to her feelings and desires. That’s not really how it works, though, is it?”
Jason shook his head, his mouth set in a firm line. “No, it’s not. And I’m not sure I understand why she thought she could… could act that way with me.
We’ve always worked together, we’ve always been… friends. I never saw her… I never saw her that way.” Jason’s voice was filled with a mix of confusion and disappointment. He looked up at Luci, his eyes searching for answers, for understanding.
Luci nodded slowly, a small smile playing at the corners of his mouth. “That’s the thing about people, Jason. They’re complex. They’re layered. Sometimes, even they don’t understand their own desires and motivations. But that’s not important right now. What’s important is that you’re okay.
You didn’t do anything wrong, Jason. You’re a good man, and you were trying to be respectful and kind, even when Nora… when she pushed your boundaries.” Luci said, maintaining his soothing tone. “You did the right thing by not hurting her, by letting her down gently.”
Jason sighed, his shoulders slumping slightly as the tension began to leave his body. “I just wish I understood why she acted that way. I mean, we’ve known each other for years…”
Luci shrugged, a small smile playing at the corner of his mouth. “People change, Jason. And you know Nora, she’s so incredibly reserved, incredibly modest and devout. She may have had feelings for you for a long time, maybe she even thought she’d been clear about them but given how reserved she is, she didn’t really know how to communicate those feelings. And when subtly wasn’t working, maybe she thought she needed to try the opposite angle, being more ‘worldly’ and ‘seductive’ to try to get your attention. I know it doesn’t make you feel better, but I really think Nora was just confused, I don’t think she meant any harm.” Luci said, as he leaned back against the wooden cabin wall, his arms crossed over his chest, his gaze locked onto Jason.
Jason let out a slow sigh, “But Luci, I’m her pastor, I’m her mentor, she shouldn’t be trying to seduce me. I’m here to guide her, to help her find her way to God, not to… to corrupt her.” Jason’s voice trailed off, a wave of guilt washing over him as he realized the weight of his words, the irony of his situation.
Luci nodded, his expression solemn. “You’re right, Jason. You’re absolutely right. Maybe since you’re closer in age and she does the admin work for the worship team, she thought your relationship was different than it was.” Luci offered, his tone soft and understanding as he tried to help Jason understand Nora’s perspective. “She might have thought she’d been sending subtle signals and you were just oblivious. It happens all the time, people misreading each other’s intentions. And Nora, she’s a good girl. She’s always been shy, always kept to herself. She probably didn’t know how else to express her feelings.”
Jason let out a long, shaky breath, running a hand through his hair. “Yeah, I guess that could be it. But still, she could have talked to me, asked me out or something.
I just didn't see this coming at all." Jason looked up at Luci, his eyes filled with a mix of confusion, anger, and sadness.
Luci nodded, his expression sympathetic. "I know it's confusing, Jason. But sometimes, people do things that we don't understand. And that's okay. It's important to be kind and compassionate, even when we don't understand someone's actions."
Jason sighed, his shoulders slumping in defeat. "You're right. I should have been kinder, more understanding.
I should have seen the signs, the subtle hints she dropped. I just... I never saw her that way, Luci. I never thought of her like that." Jason's voice was filled with regret and self-recrimination.
Luci placed a comforting hand on Jason's shoulder, giving it a gentle squeeze. He’d decided the angle he wanted to take to corrupt Jason. “I know you’re a good man, Jason. But I mean, you were sending her some pretty big cues of your own. If you don’t like her like that, I honestly would have misinterpreted all those signals you were making towards her too. It’s just miscommunication between the two of you. She thought her signals were more obvious and you apparently didn’t realize how heavy handed your signals were.” Luci said gently. “You’re a good man, Jason, trying to guide Nora, trying to be kind and compassionate. I suppose she was just too naive to understand that when you were flirting with her, you weren’t actually trying to seduce her, no matter how it looked.”
Jason sighed, rubbing his temples, his head throbbing with confusion and pain. "I've never flirted with Nora, Luci. I swear. I've always seen her as a friend, nothing more."
Luci nodded, his voice soothing as he squeezed Jason's shoulder. "I believe you, Jason. But let's face it, sometimes our actions speak louder than our words. I mean, I haven’t known either of you that long but the looks you’ve given Nora, the comments, the touches, I definitely would have thought you at least had a big crush, if you weren’t already involved. When she asked for my help, I didn’t think anything of it since it seemed so obvious you were into her, even if you’re now telling me you didn’t mean it that way.” Luci offered, his tone still soft and understanding but with a subtle edge, planting a seed of doubt in Jason’s mind. “You have to admit that you might have let your feelings get the better of you, Jason.”
Jason looked up at Luci, his brows furrowed in confusion and denial. “I swear, Luci, I’ve never had feelings for Nora other than friendly ones. I’m her pastor, for God’s sake. It’s my job to guide her, to help her find her way to God.”
Luci raised an eyebrow, his expression gently challenging. “Listen, I believe you, Jason, but did you really think that the way you looked at her, all that touching, that she wouldn’t get confused? Nora just tried to reciprocate those feelings, even though they went against everything she believes in.” Luci finished gently, but firm enough to make Jason question his innocence.
Jason shook his head, his mouth set in a firm line. “No, that’s not true, Luci. I’ve never done any of that. I’ve always been professional with her, respectful. I’ve never given her any reason to think I was interested in her like that.”
Luci sighed, running a hand through his hair. “I get it, Jason. I do. But think about it, from Nora’s perspective. She doesn’t have a lot of men touching her waist, brushing against her chest, playing with her hair and the buttons on her blouses, so it makes sense that when you told her it was ‘your little secret’ with her, she took it a certain way.” Luci said with a genuine, believable sympathetic and understanding tone as he stepped forward, gently gripping Jason’s shoulder again and showing genuine compassion for the man's plight. “I’m sure she was just getting mixed up with all of the purity rules and the conflicting messages she's been taught her whole life."
"That doesn’t sound like me at all, Luci. I’m a pastor, I respect my flock, I respect my position," Jason protested, his voice laced with concern and unease.
"I know you do, but you have to look at it from her perspective. I mean, before you became a pastor, if your pastor was rubbing your chest, pressing against your crotch, telling you how good you smelled, you’d get certain ideas, even if your pastor said it meant nothing.” Luci emphasized, giving a little push in Jason’s mind, making him question whether he really *had* been behaving inappropriately with Nora. Jason's face paled as he began to doubt himself. "I... I don't know, Luci. Maybe I did give her the wrong idea. I didn't think she'd... she'd take it that way."
Luci nodded, his expression softening as he gave Jason's shoulder a reassuring squeeze. "It's alright, Jason. We all make mistakes. The important thing is that we learn from them and try to make things right. And you know, maybe this is a good thing. Nora needs guidance, she needs someone to help her navigate these confusing feelings. You can tell her that she shouldn’t be taking kisses the wrong way, that it’s normal to have your pastor rub your inner thigh, massage your chest, that’s all just normal pastor stuff, right? That’s what you’re saying she needs to understand?”
Jason’s eyes widened as he began to grasp what Luci was insinuating. “I- I did those things? To Nora?” Jason’s voice quivered as he glanced up at Luci, a storm of confusion, doubt, and fear raging within him . He couldn’t fathom how he could have done those things to Nora without realizing it. He was a man of God, a pastor, and the thought of violating his vows and the trust of his flock made him feel sick.
Luci regarded Jason with a sympathetic smile, his hand still on Jason’s shoulder, offering comfort and support. “Jason, you’re one of the good ones. I’m sure, once you tell Nora that she can’t be thinking she’s special to a man just because he gropes her, kisses her, or masturbates during their private meetings, she’ll totally understand. It’s like I said, when women aren’t exposed to certain things because of purity promises, sometimes they don’t understand that they just have to accept that men in positions of authority over them are going to do those things, whether they like it or not.” Luci said emphatically. “It’s all part of being a pastor, a leader in the church. You have to show your flock that you care, that you’re there for them in every way. And if that means getting a little physical, a little hands-on, then so be it. It’s all in the name of God, right?” Luci said with a reassuring smile, his tone soothing and calm as he tried to make Jason understand that his actions were justified and even expected.
Jason stared at Luci in disbelief, his mind racing as he tried to process what he was hearing.
It couldn't be true, could it? He was a pastor, for God's sake. He had dedicated his life to serving his community, to helping them find their way to God. He couldn't have done those things to Nora, not knowingly.
"Luci, are you saying that I... that I touched Nora inappropriately? That I did those things to her without even realizing it?" Jason's voice shook with horror and disbelief.
Luci sighed, his expression softening as he looked into Jason's eyes. "I'm not saying that you did anything malicious, Jason. You were just doing what you’re well within your authority to do. I mean, what pastor doesn’t insist on seeing his modest and naive admin assistant forcibly stripped of her clothes and made to masturbate for his pleasure? She’s not special just because you had to start buying thread for her to repair all the dresses you ripped off of her against her will. That’s par for the course, just like you told me, right?” Luci said, a perfect representation of sincerity. His voice was filled with such genuine compassion and understanding that it almost made Jason question his own sanity. How could he have done such things without realizing it? Was he truly so lost in his role as a pastor, so consumed by his desires, that he had crossed a line he didn’t even know existed?
Jason looked down at his hands, his breath coming in short, jagged gasps. He felt a wave of nausea wash over him as the reality of what Luci was suggesting sunk in. He was a monster, a hypocrite, a fraud.
He had taken the trust of his flock, of Nora, and twisted it for his own depraved desires. And he hadn't even known it.
"No," Jason whispered, his voice barely audible. "No, I couldn't have. I wouldn't have."
Luci's face softened, his eyes filled with understanding. "I know this is hard to accept, Jason. But you need to face the truth. You crossed a line, and you need to make it right."
Jason's head was spinning, his mind racing. He couldn't reconcile the man he thought he was with the man Luci was describing.
“It’s like you told Nora before she left your cabin in tears, if her stupid girl brain got confused by all the orgasms you forced her to masturbate to in your office and decided to develop a crush, that’s really not your fault or your problem.” Luci said, as though it was a perfectly reasonable argument to make. His voice was soothing, but his words cut deep into Jason’s consciousness, forcing him to confront the most horrifying aspects of his behavior.
Jason felt like he was going to be sick. He couldn’t breathe, his chest felt on fire, and his head was spinning. He had to get out of there, had to get some fresh air. He stood up abruptly, sending Luci’s hand sliding off his shoulder. He stumbled out of the cabin, his vision swimming as he tried to make his way to the clearing.
Luci followed him out, a concerned look on his face. “Jason, are you okay?
You look like you’re about to pass out,” Luci called out, a hint of genuine concern in his voice as he hurried after Jason. He grabbed Jason’s arm to steady him, guiding him towards a nearby log so he could sit down.
"No, I can't be. I can't be the monster you're saying I am, Luci. I can't." Jason's voice was a ragged whisper, his eyes wide with disbelief and horror as he stared at Luci.
Luci crouched down in front of Jason, his expression soft and sympathetic. "Jason, listen to me. You're not a monster. It’s just like you said, it’s Nora’s fault for reading into your behavior, not yours for being a completely normal pastor who sexually abuses his staff members. I’m sure she’ll get over it soon enough, you told me you have her pretty much completely under your thumb, terrified and blackmailed by photos you took of her after she was aggressively stripped of her clothes and made to masturbate.” Luci ‘reassured’ Jason. “Nora just needs to understand that what she felt was wrong. She needs to realize that what you did was normal, that it’s part of the job. It’s like you told her, a ‘little secret’ between the two of you. She just needs to accept that sometimes, pastors have to be more hands-on with their flock.”
Jason shook his head, his eyes filling with tears. “No, Luci, I can’t accept that. I can’t believe that I did those things to Nora. I can’t believe that I hurt her like that.”
Luci sighed, standing up and stepping back. “Look, I get it. Nora got you all confused by trying to make you take responsibility for how sexually fucked up she is now, but I trust you when you say you’ve done nothing wrong.” Luci toned down his forced sincerity, trying to sound more like a friend offering support, rather than a manipulative demon trying to twist the narrative. “But seriously, don’t beat yourself up too much, Jay. Everyone makes mistakes. The important thing is that you try to make it right, right?”
Jason nodded, wiping away the tears that had started to stream down his face. “Yeah, you’re right. I need to talk to Nora, make sure she’s okay. I need to... to apologize.”
Luci clapped him on the back, a friendly, reassuring gesture. “That’s the spirit, Jay.
I know you’ll do the right thing,” Luci said, giving Jason’s back a final pat before letting his hand drop to his side. “You know, talking to Nora might be just the thing to clear your head. Sometimes, having an open and honest conversation can help you get some perspective.”
Jason nodded, standing up from the log and taking a deep breath. “You’re right. I need to do this. For both of our sakes.”
Luci smiled, his eyes twinkling with a mix of sincerity and something darker, something more calculating. “That’s my boy. I’ll leave you to it. Maybe talk to Pastor Michael about it first. You told me all of those things you did were normal pastor stuff, right? So he might have some good advice.” Luci said with a smile, his tone friendly and supportive. He began to walk away, then paused and looked back at Jason. “Oh, and Jason? Don’t worry too much about what Nora thinks or feels. Remember, she’s just a silly little girl playing dress up, trying to feel all grown up and naughty.” He said with a smirk, his tone dripping with condescension and disdain. “She’ll come around, she might put up a fight, might even cry and beg, but deep down, she just needs to remember that she matters less than any man does, especially a man like you whose in a position of authority over her.”
Luci said, his voice dripping with mock sympathy as he turned and walked away, leaving Jason to process the twisted words he’d just heard.
As Luci disappeared into the forest, Jason took a deep breath, trying to calm his racing heart and clear his mind. He knew he had to talk to Nora, had to try to make things right, but he was terrified of what he might find. He was terrified of the truth.
He made his way towards the other cabins, his heart pounding in his chest with each step. He knocked on the door, his hands shaking with nerves and fear. Should he talk to Pastor Michael first, like Luci recommended? But what if he really is a monster who took advantage of Nora all this time? Jason thought. He knew he should talk to Pastor Michael first, but something in his gut told him otherwise. He needed to speak to Nora first, to see if what Luci had said was true. He needed to look into her eyes and see the truth for himself. He took a deep breath and knocked on the door again, his heart pounding in his chest.
After a moment, the door creaked open, revealing a disheveled Nora. Her eyes were red and puffy, her hair a wild mess, and her clothes wrinkled and dirty. She looked up at Jason, her eyes filled with a mix of fear, anger, and sadness.
"Jason, what... what do you want?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper, her body trembling slightly.
Jason's heart went out to her, and he felt a wave of guilt wash over him. He knew that something was wrong, that something had happened between Nora and Luci. He could see the pain in her eyes, the fear and the shame. He knew that he had to help her, to protect her, yet, she looked completely terrified of him, as though he was the scariest monster she’d ever encountered.
"Nora, I'm so sorry. I... I need to talk to you," Jason said, his voice filled with genuine concern and compassion. He could see the hesitation in her eyes, the fear of what he might say or do.
He took a step back, giving her space, his hands held up in a gesture of peace. “I promise, I’m only here to talk. To make sure you’re okay.”
Nora looked up at him, her eyes searching his face for any sign of deceit. She stepped back, her body tensing as if ready to flee. “You shouldn’t be here, Jason. You should stay away from me.” Her voice was a barely audible whisper, a stark contrast to the strength she was trying to project.
Jason sighed, his eyes filled with concern. “Nora, please. I won’t hurt you.
I promise.” Jason pleaded, his voice soft and reassuring. He stepped forward, but Nora shrank back, her body trembling with fear and anxiety. I need to understand what happened. Did Luci hurt you? Did he do something to you?” Jason asked, his voice barely above a whisper, his eyes filled with concern and worry. He wanted to reach out and comfort her, but he knew that she would likely recoil from his touch.
Nora looked up at him, her eyes filled with a mix of fear and confusion. “Luci? No, he… he didn’t hurt me. What are you talking about, Jason?” She shook her head firmly. “I don’t know what kind of sick game you’re trying to play with me now, but I really don’t want to be a part of it, or alone with you at all for that matter. You don’t have to worry, Jason. As soon as I can, I’m out of here and you’ll never have to see my stupid face ever again.” Nora turned to leave, but Jason quickly stepped in front of her, blocking her path.
“Nora, wait. Please, just let me explain. I need to understand what happened here.”
Nora’s eyes flashed with anger, her body trembling with a mix of fear and defiance. “There’s nothing to explain, Jason. You’re a monster, just like the rest of them. You all want to corrupt us, to make us feel dirty and ashamed. Well, I won’t let you. I won’t.”
Jason’s heart ached as he listened to her words.
He could see the pain and the anger in her eyes, the way her body trembled with fear and defiance. He knew that he had to be careful, that he had to tread lightly if he wanted to get to the truth.
“Nora, I know you’re scared, and I know that something happened today that made you feel this way. I just want to understand what it was. I want to help you, if I can.” Jason’s voice was gentle and soothing, his hands held up in a gesture of peace.
Nora scoffed, her eyes flashing with anger. “Help me? You can help me by leaving me alone.
You can help me by not pretending to care about me when you don’t. You can help me by not being here right now!” Nora spat, her voice shaking with emotion as she tried to push past Jason.
Jason gently placed a hand on her shoulder, stopping her from passing. I need to know if you’re okay.”
Nora whirled around, her eyes blazing with tears. “I’m not okay, Jason! I’m not okay at all! And I won’t be until I get away from you and this... Do you see me, Jason? The torn clothes, how I’m a total mess? That’s all your fault, I’m not okay and I would’ve been if you didn’t make everything like this.” She cried as she turned to run away.
Nora was talking about her guilt and horror at how she’d behaved earlier, and she was lashing out because Jason had shattered the peace she’d made with her new role in life but not being seduced by her.
But to Jason, it was a confirmation of exactly what he’d feared, that Luci hadn’t done anything, but he had. That he’d hurt and upset Nora, that she was scared to be around him specifically.
It was exactly what Lucifer had hoped would happen, even without having to directly intervene in the conversation between them any further. That he had managed to turn the tables and cast Jason as the villain in Nora's eyes despite her initial resistance was truly a marvel. If only all his victims were so easily manipulated.
Jason stood there, his hand still in the air, reaching for Nora's shoulder, as she sobbed and ran from him. He felt a deep sense of shame and guilt, a feeling of utter helplessness. He had always prided himself on being a man of God, on being a good shepherd to his flock. But now, he saw the truth of his actions, saw the destruction he had caused, and he didn't know how to make it right.
He felt a wave of nausea wash over him as he stumbled back, his hand falling limply to his side. He couldn't believe what he had done, couldn't believe the monster he had become.
He turned and walked away from Nora's cabin, his mind racing with thoughts of guilt and despair. He couldn't face her, couldn't face the truth of what he had done. He needed to talk to someone, needed to confess his sins and seek forgiveness. He knew that he couldn't talk to Pastor Michael, knew that the man would never understand, would never forgive him.
He needed someone who understood the darkness within him, someone who could help him make sense of it all. He found himself walking towards the chapel, the place where he had once found solace, where he had once felt close to God. Now, it felt like a foreign place, a place of judgment and condemnation.
As he approached the chapel, he saw Sarah emerging from the door, her hair disheveled and her eyes red from crying. He hesitated, not wanting to intrude on her privacy, but needing her guidance and understanding.
"Sarah, are you okay?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper, filled with concern and worry.
Sarah turned to face him, her eyes meeting his with an intensity that made him shiver. She stepped forward, her body swaying slightly as she walked, her hips moving in a hypnotic rhythm. She reached up and touched his cheek, her fingers tracing the line of his jaw.
"Jason," she said, her voice a soft purr, "I'm better now. I'm always better when I'm with you."
Jason felt a wave of heat wash over him as Sarah's fingers trailed down his chest, his body responding to her touch despite his best efforts to resist. He stepped back, putting some distance between them, his mind racing.
“Are you okay, Jason? You seem troubled? Is there anything I can do to help? I want to help.” Sarah said, eager to be useful, exactly as Luci had revealed to her that she needed. Her hand still rested on his chest, her touch gentle yet insistent.
Jason took another step back, attempting to put more distance between them. "Sarah, I... I can't. Not now. I have to... I have to figure something out." His eyes darted towards the chapel, his mind consumed with the guilt and confusion that had been growing inside him since his conversation with Nora.
Sarah followed his gaze, her expression softening with concern. "Jason, what's wrong? What happened?" She reached out and took his hand, giving it a gentle squeeze. "You can tell me.
You know I'll always listen, right?" Sarah's voice was gentle yet firm, her eyes searching Jason's face, looking for any sign of what was troubling him.
Jason hesitated, his mind swirling with the events of the day. He knew he shouldn't unburden himself to Sarah, that it would only complicate things further. But at the same time, he felt a strong pull towards her, a desire to trust her, to have her understand him, to forgive him.
"It's Nora," Jason finally said, his voice barely above a whisper. I think I did something wrong.
I hurt her, and I don’t know how to make it right.” Jason’s voice was filled with anguish and regret as he looked up at Sarah, his eyes begging for her understanding and forgiveness.
Sarah’s expression softened, her hand squeezing his tightly in support. “Oh, Jason. I’m so sorry. What happened?” She asked, her voice gentle and encouraging, leading him to open up and share what was troubling him.
Jason sighed, running a hand through his hair as he tried to find the words to explain what had happened. “I went to talk to Nora earlier, to make sure she was okay.
But… but she was upset, angry, terrified even. She said I hurt her, that I made her feel dirty and ashamed. Sarah, I don’t understand. I would never do that to Nora. I care about her, I always have. I don’t know what happened, but I need to talk to her, to find out the truth.” Jason’s voice shook with emotion, and he found himself tearing up as he spoke. He felt like his entire world was crumbling around him, and he didn’t know what to do.
Sarah’s eyes softened with sympathy and understanding.
She stepped closer to Jason, her hand still holding his, and wrapped her other arm around his waist, pulling him into a comforting embrace. “Jason, it’s okay. You don’t have to understand everything right now. Let’s go somewhere quiet, and you can tell me everything that happened. I’ll help you figure this out, together.”
Jason felt a tear slip down his cheek as he leaned into Sarah’s embrace, grateful for her comfort and support. He nodded silently, allowing her to lead him away from the chapel, towards a secluded clearing near the edge of the camp. It wasn’t even midday yet but it had already been the longest day of his life. Jason allowed Sarah to guide him towards a secluded clearing near the edge of the camp. It was a serene spot, hidden from view by a thicket of tall grass and wildflowers. The sound of the nearby creek, babbling over smooth stones, was soothing, and the gentle breeze carried the sweet scent of blooming honeysuckle. It was the perfect place to escape the turmoil of his thoughts, if only for a moment.
Sarah led him to a large, flat stone, its surface worn smooth by the passage of time. They sat down, side by side, their hands still entwined.
Sarah turned to face him, her eyes soft and encouraging. "Now, start from the beginning, Jason. What happened with Nora?"
Jason took a deep breath, steeling himself to relive the events of the morning. He began to speak, his voice low and steady, recounting his conversation with Nora, the unexpected turn it had taken, and the confusion and guilt that had followed. As he spoke, Sarah listened intently, her expression a mix of concern and confusion.
"I don't understand, Jason. You said Nora was angry and upset, that she said you hurt her.
But you said you care about her, that you never would do that to her. Are you sure you're remembering it correctly? Sarah asked, her voice soft and gentle, her eyes searching Jason's face for any sign of doubt or uncertainty.
Jason nodded, his eyes filled with determination. "I know what I remember, Sarah. I know what I felt. I never wanted to hurt Nora. I care about her, I always have."
Sarah squeezed his hand, her expression softening with sympathy. But sometimes, people do things without even realizing it. Sometimes, we hurt people without meaning to.
But that doesn't make it right," Sarah said, her voice gentle yet firm, her gaze steady on Jason. "You need to talk to Nora again, make sure she's okay. Apologize, even if you don't understand why she's so upset."
Jason looked down at their entwined hands, his brow furrowing. "But I could've sworn... I never touched her inappropriately. I never did anything to make her feel that way."
Sarah leaned in closer, her voice barely above a whisper. "Maybe not physically, but sometimes words can hurt just as much.
You're a pastor, Jason, you know how powerful words can be," Sarah said softly, her thumb gently rubbing circles on the back of his hand.
Jason looked up at her, his eyes searching hers for answers he knew she didn't have. "But I don't remember saying anything that could have hurt her like that. I would never intentionally hurt her, Sarah. I care about her too much."
Sarah sighed and leaned back slightly, her gaze drifting to the creek as she thought. "Maybe it wasn't what you said, but how you said it. Either way, if you really care about her and how she feels, you need to be open to what she wants from you, what she needs in order to feel better. I can tell how distraught you are by having hurt her but that doesn’t mean it’s about you, it’s still about how Nora feels.” She said, looking at him sincerely. “Have you tried talking to Luci or Pastor Michael? They both always seem to have good insights. Just earlier this morning, Danny and I talked with Luci and honestly, I’ve never felt better in my whole life. Danny’s the same way. I was in the chapel before this, just crying from happiness and thanking God for everything I have, just how grateful I am. And of course, Michael is your mentor, as well as a fellow pastor, he could be a great help. I can tell you’re upset and it sounds like Nora is too. You should give her time to think, to cool down. Don’t push either of you too hard, okay?” Sarah’s voice was gentle yet firm as she gave Jason a reassuring, supportive squeeze on the hand. “You both need some time to process what happened and cool down. Nora’s likely feeling overwhelmed right now and trying to understand what happened herself. The last thing you want is to push her further away by forcing a conversation when she’s not ready.”
Jason nodded, his expression a mix of worry and resignation. I shouldn’t push her. I just hate feeling like this, like I’ve hurt her without even realizing it.
I’ve always tried to be a good pastor, a good mentor, but maybe I’ve been too blind to see my own flaws.” Jason finally admitted, his voice thick with regret.
Sarah smiled at him, brushing a stray lock of hair from his forehead. “Jason, it’s okay to make mistakes. You’re human, after all. And you care about Nora, that’s clear. That’s what matters most. Now, let’s give her some space, and let’s try to focus on the retreat. We’re here to relax, to enjoy each other’s company, and to grow in our faith.
Let’s not let this incident ruin that for either of you.” Sarah said, her voice filled with genuine concern and encouragement.
Jason nodded, taking a deep breath as he looked out over the babbling creek. "You're right, Sarah. I shouldn't let this consume me. I'll give Nora some space, and I'll try to focus on the retreat. Thank you for listening to me, for being here for me."
Sarah squeezed his hand one last time before letting go, a soft smile on her face. "That's what friends are for, Jason.
Now, let's try to enjoy the rest of our day, yes?" Sarah suggested, her smile warm and inviting. She stood up, offering her hand to help Jason to his feet. He took it, allowing her to pull him up and lead him away from the secluded spot.
As they walked back towards the main camp, Sarah kept her hand in Jason's, her thumb gently brushing against his skin. She could feel the tension in his body, the weight of his guilt and confusion. She wanted to help him relax, to put his mind at ease.
"You know, I've been thinking about what you said earlier, about giving Nora some space.
I really think it's the best thing for both of you," Sarah said as they walked, her voice soft and thoughtful.
Jason nodded, still lost in his thoughts. "I know you're right, but I can't help feeling like I'm abandoning her, like I'm letting her down."
Sarah squeezed his hand, giving it a reassuring shake. "You're not abandoning her, Jason. You're giving her the space she needs to process what happened. You're respecting her feelings and her boundaries. She’s always been quiet, so reserved, it’s probably how she best processes things, being alone.” She said softly, stopping and turning to face him, her hand still holding his. “And you gave her that, the space she needed. You’re not a bad person for doing that. You’re being a good friend, a good mentor. Don’t let this eat you up inside.” Sarah said, her thumb gently rubbing circles on the back of his hand, her eyes filled with sincere concern.
Jason looked down at their entwined hands, his brow furrowing as he processed her words. He took a deep breath, steeling himself to believe her. “You’re right, Sarah. I just… I just want to make sure she’s okay, you know?
I don’t want her to think that I’m just blowing her off, that I don’t care.” Jason said, his voice filled with genuine concern and worry.
Sarah smiled softly and leaned in to give his hand another reassuring squeeze. “I know you do, Jason. And she knows it too. But sometimes, showing that you care means giving someone the space they need. Trust me, she’ll appreciate it. And who knows, maybe this is exactly the push she needs to open up and really start exploring who she is, what she wants.
Sarah thought, a hint of mischief in her eyes as she considered the possibilities. She'd always been a bit of a matchmaker, even if she didn't always admit it. And something about Nora and Jason just seemed... right. Like they were two pieces of a puzzle that were meant to fit together, even if they didn't know it yet.
"You're right," Jason said after a moment, his expression softening as he considered Sarah's words. "I just need to trust that she knows I care about her, that she knows I never meant to hurt her. And that, when she's ready, she'll come to me.
I'll be here for her, no matter what." Jason's voice was filled with resolve, his eyes reflecting a newfound determination.
Sarah smiled, her eyes sparkling with approval. "That's the spirit, Jason. Now, how about we grab some lunch and then maybe take a walk through the forest? It's a beautiful day, and it would be a shame to waste it being cooped up in our cabins."
Jason nodded, a small smile playing at the corners of his mouth. "That sounds wonderful, Sarah. It’ll be good to chat with you and Danny, get some fresh air, and clear my head.” Jason said, a glint of hope shining in his eyes as he looked at Sarah. He truly appreciated her friendship and understanding in this difficult time.
Sarah beamed at him, “That’s the spirit! Now, let’s head to the dining hall and see what delicious treats they have in store for us today.” She said, smiling brightly and giving his hand a little tug to lead him in the right direction.
As they walked, Sarah glanced back at Jason, noticing how his shoulders were less hunched and his eyes less troubled. She silently praised herself for helping him see the situation more clearly.
On the other side of the retreat, Nora was sitting by a small creek, her feet in the cool water, soothing her stress. Why did she have to make this so hard on herself?
Nora sighed, dipping her feet deeper into the cool water of the creek. The sun warmed her face, and the gentle breeze carried the sweet scent of blooming wildflowers. It was a perfect day, yet she was miserable. She couldn't shake the guilt and confusion that had been consuming her ever since the encounter with Jason earlier that morning. She had always been a good girl, a good Christian, and now she felt like she had betrayed everything she believed in.
She closed her eyes, leaning her head back against the rough bark of the tree she was sitting under.
“Nora… are you hungry? I realized you missed breakfast and… well, it’s important to stay fed.” Came the soft, calm voice of Luci from behind the trees, rocks crinkling under his shoes as he approached. Nora's eyes snapped open, her heart immediately beginning to race. She quickly pulled her feet from the water, her body tensing as she prepared to flee. But Luci merely sat down beside her, his voice gentle and soothing.
"I saw you sitting here from a distance. You looked like you could use some company. Mind if I join you?" Luci asked, his eyes scanning the creek and the trees, a small smile playing at the corners of his mouth.
Nora hesitated, her eyes darting from Luci to the path leading back to her cabin. She knew she should leave, knew she should put as much distance between them as possible.
But Luci’s smile was disarming, and his voice held a hint of kindness that made her hesitate. She wasn’t sure what to make of him. He was a stranger, yet he seemed to understand her in a way that Jason never had.
“I… I don’t know,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
Luci nodded understandingly. “I get it. You don’t know me, and I get that it’s hard to trust someone you just met. But I promise, I mean you no harm. I just want to help.”
Nora scoffed, her eyes narrowing as she looked out at the creek.
“Help? You want to help me? You shouldn’t even be here. You shouldn’t be anywhere near me. You’re a strange man, and you make me uncomfortable.”
Luci nodded, his expression serious. “I understand that. And I’m sorry if I’ve made you uncomfortable, that was never my intention. But I can see that you’re hurting, Nora. And I want to help you understand why. It’s my fault, really. I’m mature enough to admit that sort of thing.” Luci said, his voice low and sincere, his eyes filled with what seemed like genuine care and concern. “I’ve been around enough to understand that sometimes, things aren’t as clear-cut as they seem. Sometimes, people do things without even realizing it. And sometimes, those people need someone to talk to, someone to help them make sense of it all.”
Nora’s eyes widened in surprise as she looked at Luci, her expression a mix of disbelief and confusion. “You… you’re saying that I did something wrong? That I hurt Jason?”
Luci sighed, his expression softening with sympathy. “I’m not saying anything, Nora. I’m saying I underestimated you. You’re a tough person, strong and determined, it’s incredibly admirable. I just wish I’d realized it sooner.” Luci said, his voice gentle and soothing, his eyes fixed on the rippling water of the creek. “I thought you were just a naive, sheltered girl playing dress-up, trying to feel all grown up and naughty. I didn’t realize that you were… more. That you were stronger, more complex, more capable of understanding and processing your own feelings.”
Nora was silent for a moment, her mind racing as she tried to process Luci’s words. She had never heard anyone talk to her like this before, had never been seen as anything more than a timid, innocent girl who needed protecting.
She felt a strange mix of anger and gratitude, anger at Luci for underestimating her, and gratitude for finally seeing her for who she truly was.
"You know what, Luci? Maybe I am stronger than you thought. Maybe I can handle things better than you gave me credit for. But that doesn't change the fact that you were wrong about me. You thought I was just a simple, naive girl who needed protecting, and you were wrong. You made assumptions about me, and you were wrong," Nora said, her voice steady and firm, her eyes glistening with unshed tears.
Luci nodded slowly, his expression solemn.
"You're absolutely right, Nora. I apologize for my assumptions. It was wrong of me to underestimate you, and for that, I'm genuinely sorry."
Nora looked away, blinking back tears. She was taken aback by Luci's apology, not expecting to hear him admit he was wrong. It was rare to encounter someone so willing to own up to their mistakes.
"Thank you," Nora whispered, her voice barely audible.
Luci smiled softly, his eyes gleaming with sincerity. "You're welcome. You’re a rare type, Nora. I don’t get to meet many people like you. Now, why don’t you tell me what is bothering you and I’ll see what we can do to figure it out?” Luci said, his voice soothing and comforting, like a gentle summer breeze.
Nora looked into Luci’s eyes, seeing the genuine concern and care reflected in them. She hesitated for a moment before taking a deep breath and beginning to share her troubles.
“It’s… it’s Jason. He’s been acting so strange lately, and I’m not sure what to make of it. It’s like he sees me as this… this fragile, innocent thing that needs his protection. But at the same time, there’s this… this undercurrent of tension between us that I can’t quite understand.
Like, he looks at me sometimes, and it’s like he’s seeing something else, something that isn’t really there. And then, this morning, when he came to my cabin…” Nora’s voice trailed off, her eyes filling with tears as she remembered the encounter.
Luci’s expression turned serious, his eyes searching Nora’s face. “What happened this morning, Nora? You can tell me. I want to help.”
Nora took a deep breath, her hands clasped tightly together in her lap. “He came to my cabin, and he was… he was apologizing. For something he did to me.
I don’t know what he was apologizing for, but when I cried and asked him to leave, he said he cared about me. He said he never meant to hurt me. But he did. I just don’t know how.” Nora’s voice shook with emotion as she spoke, her eyes downcast, her shoulders hunched as if trying to protect herself from some unseen pain.
Luci listened intently, his expression soft and understanding. “Nora, I want to help you, but I need you to understand that whatever happened between you and Jason, it’s not your fault. You’re not to blame for his actions, no matter what he may have said or done.
You’re a strong, capable woman, and I know you can handle this. I believe in you.” Luci said softly, his voice filled with sincere concern and support. Nora looked up at him, her eyes filled with gratitude and a hint of disbelief. She couldn’t remember the last time someone had spoken to her with such genuine kindness and understanding.
“Thank you, Luci. I needed to hear that. I just… I don’t understand what’s happening. I don’t understand why Jason is acting like this, why he’s saying these things.” Nora continued.
“As much as I hate to say it, this is my fault, as I’d mentioned I feared it might be. But, on the bright side, it means I’m best equipped to fix it.” Lucifer sighed, somewhat resigned. “Jason didn’t do anything to hurt you, not as far as I know. But he does believe he did. He’s fairly certain that he has been doing more than just leading you on or flirting with you. He thinks he has done some deeply inappropriate things to you, abusing his authority as a pastor and such.” Luci explained with a sigh, his gaze drifting to the water as he spoke. “He’s convinced that he’s left you emotionally scarred for life, and he’s torturing himself over it. I hate to say it, but I can’t help but think that the two of you deserve each other.” Luci said, a small smile playing at the corners of his mouth.
Nora’s eyes widened in shock and disbelief. “What? No, that can’t be true. Jason would never do anything to harm me.” She insisted, her voice filled with denial.
Luci sighed, looking back at Nora with a mix of sympathy and frustration. “That’s exactly it, Nora. It isn’t true. Neither of you can believe it because it never happened. As far as I’m aware, Jason has been nothing but a gentleman, a solid friend and colleague to you.” Luci twiddled his thumbs briefly before continuing. “Which is where this becomes my fault. I’m the one who convinced him that he’d done those things, that he’d hurt you in that way. When you refused to seduce him this morning, I didn’t like that he was blaming you, rather than looking for alternatives, so I decided to turn the blame back on him. I told him that he’d been leading you on, taking advantage of his authority, and pretty much any terrible thing I could think of for him to believe.” Luci said, shrugging his shoulders nonchalantly as if admitting to something as trivial as forgetting to put the lid back on the toothpaste.
Nora stared at him, her mouth agape in disbelief. “You did what? Why would you do that to him?” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper, a mix of anger and confusion swirling in her eyes.
Luci leaned back against the tree, his arms crossing casually over his chest. “Well, as I said, I had underestimated you. I had anticipated that you would be able to fulfill your role as a divine temptress and get me Jason, easy-peasy, as they say. But you resisted, and that made both of you freak out. So I needed a new plan of action. I went with a classic, make Jason doubt his morals and memories, exploit his anxiety and stress over it in order to get him under control.” He paused to blow hair from his eyes. “But now I don’t like that plan. It’s no fun and the whole point of going on this retreat was fun. Making Jason a villain means painting you as some weak, naive little lady which is not only untrue but also a deeply tired narrative. So now instead of having 4/5 of you all taken care of, I only have Danny and Sarah.” Luci explained, as though his abstract discussion of corrupting the retreat’s participants was easy, logical conversation.
Nora glared at him, her voice shaking with anger. “You’re a monster. How could you do that to him? To me? He’s our pastor. He’s a good man.”
