Chapter 1: Introduction
The glow of soft, yellow lights beckoned like a small beacon in a sea of darkness broken by faces illuminated from the screen of their mobile phones. There was a familiar lull that descended on the coffee house, as though time slowed with the saxophone.
Holly Johnson, pint-sized and wrapped in black from her denim mini skirt to the appreciated ally cover-up, had her elbows on the table, head propped on her hand.
She flipped her blonde bob, her eyes wide with the thrill of the unknown. "Chad, babe, he's a fucking beast." She dragged it out for emphasis, enjoying the shock factor, "A stallion, Molly, you've never seen anything like him."
Molly Thompson looked more like a schoolteacher than a woman who'd come to meet her friend for a drink before heading to a trendy nightclub. Her chestnut brown hair was pulled back in a loose bun, a simple white blouse tucked into dark jeans. "Jesus, Holly, you're going to make me blush." Molly was giggling, trying to imagine the mythical beast Holly spoke about.
"Good, you should blush more often.
Loosen up," Holly retorted, grinning mischievously before tilting her head and asking, "So, how's Nathan?"
Molly raised her eyebrows, surprised by the sudden switch of topic. "He's fine," she answered hesitantly, trying to read Holly's intentions.
"Just fine?" Holly teased. "What about, you know, when you two get freaky?"
Molly's eyes widened, and she looked down, letting her long chestnut hair obscure her face like a curtain. "Holly!" she protested, her voice barely louder than a whisper.
"Oh, come on, don't be shy. Tell me the truth; we've been friends forever." Holly wasn't going to let Molly off the hook so easily.
Molly took a brief pause before she spoke again, her eyes reflecting a mixture of emotions – resignation, sadness, and perhaps even a hint of determination.
Molly paused for a moment, then sighed. "It's okay.
You can admit it." Holly leaned in, encouraging Molly to continue.
Molly hesitated, her cheeks growing hotter. "I don't know, Holly. Lately, it feels like Nathan and I are just going through the motions." She played with the corner of her napkin, fidgeting nervously. "Our love life has become lackluster."
Holly frowned. "That's no good, Molly. Nathan's a hottie; you two should be ripping each other's clothes off."
A ghost of a smile crossed Molly's face. "It used to be that way. But now, we're just... tired, I guess."
It seemed that the two friends had exhausted the topic, but Holly wouldn't let it rest. "Maybe it's time to spice things up," she said, grinning.
Molly couldn't help but feel a spark of curiosity ignite deep within her. "What do you mean?"
"Oh, Molly, don't play coy," Holly said, rolling her eyes playfully. "You said it yourself, things between you and Nathan have become dull. Maybe it's time for you to explore your fantasies."
Molly took a deep breath, trying to process Holly's words. "I've never really thought about it," she admitted, feeling a little embarrassed.
"Well, you should start thinking about it," Holly said, her voice becoming more serious. "What's something you've always wanted to try?"
Molly hesitated, then whispered, "I've always wanted to be with someone... bigger."
Holly's eyes widened, a sly smile spreading across her face.
"Then let's do something about it." She pulled out her phone, tapping at the screen rapidly. "Meet Chad," she said, showing Molly the phone. The tall, muscular man smirked confidently, the same intoxicating bravado radiating from the screen as from Holly's earlier descriptions.
Molly felt a strange mix of excitement and guilt as she saw the picture of Holly's lover. "Holly, I don't know if this is such a good idea," she said weakly.
"Oh, lighten up, Molly!" Holly put her phone away, hopping off her chair. "I dare you to take a walk on the wild side.
Flirt with him; see where things go," Holly said, holding Molly's gaze. It was as if Holly had transformed from Molly's best friend to a mischievous devil, her eyes sparkling with excitement. Molly hesitated but felt a shiver of anticipation race down her spine.
"Fine, just for tonight," she conceded, her heart pounding in her chest. Holly squealed with delight and grabbed Molly's hand, pulling her out of the coffee house.
As they entered the trendy nightclub, Molly felt her senses overwhelmed by the pulsating lights and heavy beats of the music. She scanned the room for Holly's conquest, Chad, and found him at the bar. Holly nudged Molly forward, urging her on with a mischievous grin.
Molly took a deep breath and walked towards the bar, her eyes fixed on Chad's muscular form.
Holly had disappeared into the crowd, leaving Molly to her nerves and her thoughts.
With her heart pounding in her chest, Molly hesitantly sent Nathan a text message. She stared at the screen, watching the text bubbles bounce up and down as she typed and deleted her words, trying to find the perfect way to explain what she was about to do.
Eventually, she settled on something simple. "Hey, babe. Just wanted to let you know I love you. I'm out with Holly tonight, and we might stay a bit later. I'll keep you updated. Miss you."
She hit send, feeling her stomach churn with anxiety and excitement. Nathan replied almost immediately, "Love you too, babe. Have fun and be safe. Let me know if you need anything."
Molly took a deep breath, feeling a strange mix of relief and guilt wash over her.
But as she raised her gaze to meet Chad's, all those emotions were swept away by a wave of awe. Holly walked over with Chad, a sly grin on her face as she made the introduction.
"Molly, this is Chad Thadwick. Chad, this is my best friend, Molly Thompson." Holly's voice was low, almost purring, making Molly feel both embarrassed and excited.
Chad's eyes appraised Molly, taking in her slender form and the slight tremble in her hands. He extended his hand, a smirk on his face. "Nice to meet you, Molly. Holly's told me a lot about you."
Molly hesitated, then shook Chad's hand, feeling the warmth of his touch seep into her skin. She swallowed hard, her mouth dry, and tried to find her voice.
