Chapter 1: Introduction

I'm sure you've seen the news. You know, the stories about the psychopath who has been on a killing spree. Yeah, them. The ones that make you want to lock your doors and never leave your house.

The newspapers are having fun trying to decide what name to call "him": Some say he's the Boogeyman, others prefer to call him the Night Stalker. Personally, one day I hope they'll land on "Jane the Ripper".

That's right -- it's me.

The one they're scared of. But don't worry, I don't kill just anyone. No, my victims are chosen carefully, methodically - they deserve it. They've done something wrong, something unspeakable that deserves punishment. And so, they get it.

I'd like to think that I'm doing society a favor, ridding it of those who prey on the weak and vulnerable. But hey, that's just me. What do I know?

As I lay here on my bed, I can feel the excitement coursing through my veins. My mind flashes to the headlines of the most recent one.

It was a student at the local state college. I had broken into her house and lied in wait for her. It wasn't hard; she was a party girl, out late every night and rarely sober enough to notice if her door was locked. Once she fell asleep, I slipped into her room. She was beautiful, even in sleep. Her lips were slightly parted, and her chest rose and fell softly under the covers. But I knew what she was capable of. I knew how she used her beauty to manipulate men, to get them to do whatever she wanted. She was dangerous, and she needed to be stopped.

I watched her breathe for a moment before reaching into my pocket and pulling out the syringe.
