Chapter 1: Introduction

Alex blinked. He wasn't sure how much time had passed as he swam up from the darkness, but he knew that something was definitely wrong. The last thing he remembered was—nothing. An eerie blank space where memories should be. Panic surged through him, threatening to swallow him up, but he clamped down on it. Instead, he took long, steady breaths, willing the alarm bells clanging in his head to still.

"Hello?" he called out. His voice echoed back at him from the silence. He took a look at his surroundings. @The Town House was a dump. Peeling wallpaper, dusty furniture, and a thick layer of grime covering everything. It looked like it hadn't seen a human in years. Yet here he was, sprawled out on a couch that smelled faintly of mold. He pushed himself up, wincing at the stiffness in his muscles. That's when he noticed the others.

Across the room, a woman with long, curly brown hair was stirring. She rubbed her temples, her eyes fluttering open. She was gorgeous, even with the confusion clouding her features.

Her eyes, a striking shade of green, met his. "Where am I? What happened?" she asked, her voice laced with panic.

Alex held up his hands in a calming gesture. "I don't know," he admitted. "I just woke up too. But we're not alone." He nodded towards the staircase where another figure was slowly descending. This guy was tall, lean, with short dark hair and a guarded expression. He moved with a quiet intensity, like a predator stalking its prey.

The man reached the bottom step, his gaze flicking between Alex and the woman.

"Michael," he said, his voice low and measured. "And you two are?"

Alex stood up, extending a hand. "Alex. This is... I'm sorry, I didn't catch your name."

The woman hesitated before speaking, "Emily." She offered a small smile, her fingers brushing against Alex's briefly.

Michael nodded, his expression unreadable. "We're not the only ones here," he said, jerking his thumb towards the kitchen. "There's a girl in there. She's awake, but she's... not quite with us."

Alex raised an eyebrow.

"Not quite with us?" he echoed, glancing towards the kitchen. He could hear muffled sounds coming from within - soft giggles, maybe? He started walking towards the sound, Emily and Michael following close behind.

As they entered the kitchen, they found a young woman with long, platinum blonde hair dancing around the island counter. She wore nothing but a silk robe that left little to the imagination, and her eyes were glazed over, a dreamy smile playing on her lips. She twirled around, her laughter filling the room.

"Rachel," she said with a grand, sweeping gesture that ended in a bow. "I feel so damn good.

Like, really good," Rachel said, her voice bubbly and light. She ran a hand through her hair, sending strands flying every which way. "You guys should try it. It's amazing."

Alex exchanged a puzzled glance with Emily and Michael. "Try what, Rachel?" he asked, his tone cautious.

Rachel giggled, leaning against the counter. "The stuff in the cabinet. It's like... magic." She closed her eyes, swaying gently to some unheard rhythm.

Emily stepped closer to Rachel, concern etched on her face. "What did you take, Rachel?" she asked softly.

"Some gas, from this little oxygen bottle. You know like the ones they give older people for their sleep apnea or whatever," Rachel replied, waving her hand dismissively. "But this one's special. It's got a kick."

Alex's eyebrows shot up. "Oxygen? Rachel, that's dangerous. You shouldn't mess with things you don't understand."

Rachel pouted, sticking out her lower lip. "Buzzkill," she muttered, pushing off from the counter and sauntering towards the living room. "Come on, let's explore. There's gotta be more to this place than just old furniture and weird gases."

Emily watched Rachel go, a worried frown on her face.

"Should we follow her?" she asked, turning to Alex and Michael.

Alex nodded. "Yeah, we need to make sure she doesn't get into any more trouble. And besides, we should stick together. We don't know what else might be in this house."

They followed Rachel to a large metal door, she seemed to be pressing her head against it, as if soothing a fever.

It was tucked away in a corner of the house, almost hidden by shadows.

"What's this?" Emily asked, running her fingers along the cold metal surface.

Rachel turned, her eyes wide and excited. "I found it earlier! It's locked, with some silly number code, but I think it leads out, or at least to a Livingroom, judging by the fact we were just in the kitchen." Rachel said, her voice echoing slightly.

Alex stepped closer, examining the keypad. "Well, we can't exactly break it down," he said, giving the door a futile push. "Let's think about this logically. If it's a code, it's probably something simple."

Emily tapped her chin thoughtfully. "Maybe our birthdays? Or the date we arrived?"

Michael shook his head. "Too many digits. Plus, we don't know when we arrived or even what day it is."

"That's why we need to check upstairs," A voice called out from behind the group . They turned to see an older woman with short, gray hair and a stern expression. She was dressed in a crisp blouse and tailored pants, exuding an air of authority. "I'm Jill," she added, extending a hand.

Alex shook it firmly. "Alex. This is Emily, Michael, and Rachel." He gestured to each of them in turn.

Jill nodded, her gaze sharp and assessing. "I've been exploring the upper floors of @The Town House, there's a lot of... interesting things up there." She paused, her eyes lingering on Rachel's disheveled state. "Perhaps we should focus on finding some clothes for Rachel first."

Rachel giggled, twirling around again. "Clothes are so boring! I feel free like this!"

Jill raised an eyebrow, unimpressed. "Free to catch pneumonia, perhaps. Now, let's find you something to wear while we figure out this door."

With Jill taking the lead, the group made their way back upstairs. Rachel skipped ahead, her silk robe billowing behind her.

"I bet there's a whole closet full of sexy lingerie up here!" she exclaimed, pushing open doors and peeking inside.

Jill rolled her eyes but kept her pace steady. "We'll find you something suitable, Rachel. Not everything needs to be a spectacle."

Emily walked beside Alex, her arms wrapped around herself. "Do you think we'll find answers upstairs?" she asked quietly.

Alex shrugged. "I hope so. This whole situation is... strange. I mean, waking up in an abandoned house with no memory of how we got here?

It's like something out of a horror movie," Alex said, trying to keep his voice light despite the unease gnawing at him.

Emily shivered. "I just want to know what's going on. Why we're here, who brought us here..."

Michael, who had been silent until now, spoke up. "And why we can't remember anything."

They reached the top of the stairs, Jill leading them down a dimly lit hallway. Rachel had already disappeared into one of the bedrooms, her laughter echoing behind a closed door.

Jill stopped in front of a door that looked different from the rest.

It was heavier, made of solid wood, and had an intricate carving of a phoenix on the handle. She reached out, grasping the cool metal, and pushed the door open.
