Chapter 1: Exposition
"Game night," Alex said, opening the door to reveal a dimly lit living room. Her short, curly brown hair shimmered under the warm glow of multicolored fairy lights hanging from the ceiling. "Game on."
James, her partner, eyed the celebration in the room with a mixture of apprehension and curiosity. Truth or dare, really? He took a deep breath and allowed himself to be swept into the current of Alex's adventurous plans.
"Hey there, guys!" Alex called out, waving them over.
Sarah and Ben, the couple they were meeting for game night, dutifully made their way from the bar to the cozy corner Alex and James had set up for the evening.
Sarah, an effervescent woman with a wild mane of red curls, wore a contagious smile on her face. She greeted everyone with a warm hug and a laugh, already in high spirits. Ben, her husband, trailed behind her.
He had a mop of dark hair, and his kind, friendly brown eyes smiled along with the rest of him. But James noticed that Ben's eyes were hesitant, taking in the scene—the sex toys, the intimate apparel, the sleek leather furniture, and floor to ceiling windows that made up their modern apartment—and questioning whether or not they should have accepted the invitation.
Alex had always known Sarah and Ben were open-minded, but even she felt a twinge of nervousness as she studied their expressions. Would they really go along with the outrageousness of it all?
