Chapter 1: Introduction

“Hey! I’m home!” Emma called out cheerfully as she walked through the door. She kicked off her shoes and tossed them to the side before heading further inside.

The twenty-three-year-old had recently moved into a new place with her friend and now roommate, Chris. She was initially hesitant about the idea of rooming with a guy, even if it was her best friend. Not that she was worried that Chris would do anything, she trusted him more than anyone.

They had been friends for years and she knew he would never purposely hurt her. Plus, they were both adults and could handle themselves.

Still, she couldn't help but feel a bit self-conscious

as she walked into her living room, dressed in a cute yellow sundress that hugged her curves. She tossed

her white purse onto the coffee table and smiled at Chris, who was sprawled out on the couch, watching TV.

"Hey, Babe," she greeted him, sitting down beside him on the couch.

"How was your day?"

Chris glanced up at her momentarily before turning his gaze back to the TV. "It was okay," he mumbled.

Emma could sense that something was bothering him, but she didn't press the issue. Instead, she reached over and playfully ruffled his hair.
