Chapter 1: Whiskey and Warmth
The peat smoke hung thick in the Clachaigh Inn, a low ceiling trapping the scent of wet wool, whiskey, and centuries of spilled stories. A fiddle wailed from the corner, a sound like a cracked heart, fighting the rumble of rain against ancient window panes. Charlotte felt it in her bones, this deep, old wildness of Glencoe, so different from the sterilized silence of her living room in Surrey.
“And the Gore-Tex, you see, is really the crucial factor,” Mike said, his finger tapping the scarred table for emphasis. He’d been explaining waterproof membrane technology for eleven minutes. Charlotte nodded, sipping her sweet, cheap white wine, her gaze drifting over his shoulder.
That’s when she saw them.
They were a splash of color in the dun-brown room. One was tall, elegant, with a blade-sharp jawline and piercing blue eyes that seemed to catch the firelight. Her blonde hair was shaved close on one side, the rest swept over, and intricate tattoos coiled up her forearm. The woman beside her was softer, a brunette with a dizzying, curved figure and big, warm eyes that crinkled when she laughed. They were sharing a story, heads close together, a world of their own.
“Don’t you think, Charlie?” Mike asked.
“Hmm? Yes. Absolutely. Gore-Tex,” she said, pulling her attention back. Her eyes flickered to the women again. The blonde one was looking right at her. A slow, knowing smile touched her lips before she turned back to her partner.
A flush crept up Charlotte’s neck. She looked down at her wine.
“Another round?” Mike pushed back his chair, the legs scraping against stone. “I’ll brave the scrum at the bar.”
Before Charlotte could answer, the two women were there, sliding onto the bench opposite as Mike departed. The air around them crackled, bringing notes of citrus and clean perfume.
“Mind if we colonize?” the blonde one asked, her voice a smooth, low alto. “Every other table is drowning in hiking boots and despair.”
“Please,” Charlotte said, too quickly. “It’s fine.”
“I’m Trish. This is Izzy.” Trish extended a hand. Her grip was firm, cool. Her eyes held Charlotte’s a beat too long. “You’re not from here.”
“Is it that obvious?”
“The jacket gave you away,” Izzy said, her voice warmer, melodic. She nodded at Charlotte’s sensible, brand-new raincoat hanging on the peg. “It still has the crinkle of the shop bag. We’re interlopers too. Just better camouflaged.” She smiled, and it was like being embraced. Charlotte found herself smiling back.
Mike returned, setting down a fresh wine for Charlotte and a pint for himself. He blinked at the new occupants. “Oh. Hello.”
“Mike, these are Trish and Izzy,” Charlotte said.
“Right. Good. Walking the West Highland Way?” Mike asked, settling back into his monologue gear. “The path degradation around Devils Staircase is becoming a real issue. Erosion, you see…”
Trish listened, chin propped on her hand, her blue eyes fixed on Mike with an expression of polite interest that felt, to Charlotte, like a surgical mask. Izzy’s attention, however, was a tangible warmth on the side of Charlotte’s face.
“You must be exhausted, listening to all this trail talk,” Izzy murmured, leaning in slightly. The movement brought a hint of her scent—vanilla and something earthy. “Your husband’s very… passionate about footpaths.”
Charlotte gave a small, conspiratorial shrug. “It’s his third favorite topic. After grouting and the fuel efficiency of his company car.”
Izzy’s laugh was a genuine, delighted thing. “Oh, I like you.” The words were simple, but they landed in Charlotte’s stomach like a lit match.
Under the table, a knee brushed against hers. She assumed it was Mike, shifting. But Mike was on her left, gesturing with his pint. The contact was on her right. She glanced at Trish, who was nodding along to Mike’s soliloquy, her expression unchanged. The knee stayed, a firm, deliberate pressure against Charlotte’s leg through the denim of her jeans.
Charlotte didn’t pull away. A bolt of pure, shocking heat shot through her. She took a gulp of wine.
The conversation swirled. Mike, buoyed by a new audience, expanded his topics. Trish engaged him with sharp, intelligent questions that kept him talking. It was a skillful diversion. Every time Charlotte zoned out, she found Izzy’s brown eyes on her, soft and inviting.
“What do you do, Charlotte?” Izzy asked, cutting through Mike’s analysis of midge repellent efficacy.
“Oh. Nothing, really. I keep the house. Garden a bit.” It sounded so pathetic, whispered in this smoky, wild place.
“That’s not nothing,” Izzy said, her voice dropping. “Creating a home. It’s a quiet art. I bet you’re brilliant at it.” Her foot nudged Charlotte’s under the table. An accident, surely.
Trish smoothly ordered a round of whiskeys, sliding a neat glass of amber liquid in front of Charlotte. “Try this. It tastes like this valley feels. Peat and fire and time.”
Mike raised his. “Cheers then.”
Charlotte sipped. It burned, a glorious, spreading fire that melted the chill she hadn’t known she carried. Trish watched her throat as she swallowed.
“Good?” Trish asked.
“Powerful.”
“Everything good is,” Trish said, holding her gaze.
The band launched into a faster reel. The noise swelled. To be heard, they had to lean in. Izzy’s shoulder pressed against Charlotte’s, her hair brushing Charlotte’s cheek. She smelled incredible. Trish’s leg was now fully aligned with Charlotte’s, from knee to thigh, a line of incendiary contact.
Mike was shouting something about gradients now, red-faced and happy.
Izzy’s lips were at Charlotte’s ear, her breath a warm caress. “You have the most beautiful hair. It’s like poured maple syrup.” A fingertip, impossibly light, traced the outer curve of Charlotte’s ear. Charlotte jolted as if electrocuted. A low, unfamiliar ache bloomed deep in her belly.
She was wet. The realization was a vertigo drop inside her. Sitting in a crowded pub, her husband three feet away, and she was soaking her plain cotton knickers because a woman had touched her ear. Her face flamed.
Trish saw it. The blush, the parted lips, the rapid flutter in Charlotte’s throat. A slow, predatory smile spread across her face. She knocked back her whiskey and stood. “Air. I need a minute. Izzy? Charlotte?”
“I’m good here,” Izzy purred, not moving an inch from Charlotte’s side. Her hand rested on the bench behind Charlotte, not touching, but caging.
Trish shrugged and melted into the crowd.
Mike, finally pausing, noticed Trish’s empty seat. “Where’d the other one go? Sharp lady. Knows her stuff.”
“Air,” Charlotte whispered, her voice raspy. She reached for her whiskey with a trembling hand and drained it. The fire spread, but it didn’t calm the throbbing between her legs. It fed it.
Izzy’s hand came down from the bench back and landed, with terrifying casualness, on Charlotte’s thigh. High up. Her thumb began a slow, circular stroke on the inner seam of Charlotte’s jeans. “You’re tense,” Izzy murmured, her face all innocent concern. “All that walking.”
Charlotte couldn’t breathe. The touch was a brand. She could feel the rough denim, the heat of Izzy’s palm, the promise of that thumb an inch from her burning core. She should stand up. She should move. She did nothing. She let the thumb circle. Her hips gave a tiny, involuntary roll into the pressure.
Izzy’s brown eyes darkened. She wet her lips. “That’s it,” she breathed, so only Charlotte could hear. “Just feel it.”
Mike was yelling over the music to a man at the next table about the best brand of walking sock.
Izzy’s thumb pressed harder. The friction through the thick fabric was maddening, not enough, all wrong, and yet it sent sparks shooting up Charlotte’s spine. Her nipples were hard, tight points against her bra. She had never, in ten years of competent, quiet missionary sex with Mike, felt anything like this savage, hungry clenching deep inside. It was a need, raw and humiliating and exquisite.
Trish reappeared, a fresh quartet of whiskeys in her hands. She took in the scene: Charlotte’s glazed eyes, Izzy’s possessive hand on Charlotte’s thigh, the rapid rise and fall of Charlotte’s chest. Her blue eyes gleamed with victory. She placed the glasses down and sat, her knee once more finding Charlotte’s, completing the circuit.
“Better?” Trish asked Charlotte, her tone implying she knew exactly how much better it was.
Charlotte just nodded, terrified if she opened her mouth a whimper would escape.
Trish lifted her glass. “To new experiences.” Her eyes locked on Charlotte’s. “To discovering appetites you never knew you had.”
Clinking glasses, Mike oblivious, Izzy’s thumb still tracing those devastating circles, Charlotte drank. The whiskey was just fuel now, pouring onto the fire. The fiddle music swelled, the pub noise receded to a roar in her ears, and all that existed was the two women surrounding her, the iron band of heat where their bodies touched hers, and the terrifying, slick pulse at her center, beating a frantic, yes, yes, yes.

Mike slammed his empty pint glass on the table. “Right. My round. Same again?” He didn’t wait for an answer, already weaving towards the heaving bar, leaving a pocket of charged silence in his wake.
Trish didn’t miss a beat. She leaned in, her movement fluid and predatory, until her lips were millimeters from Charlotte’s ear. The scent of her, whiskey and cold night air, filled Charlotte’s senses. “I see the way you look at us,” Trish whispered, her breath warm and wet against the delicate skin.
Charlotte jerked as if scalded. Her face flooded with a heat so intense she felt dizzy. The directness was a slap. A delicious, shameful slap. “But I’m straight,” she blurted, the words a thin, panicked defense. “Married.”
Trish leaned back, a slow, wolfish grin spreading across her striking face. Her blue eyes glittered with amusement.“Interesting. You said ‘straight’ before ‘married’.” Under the table, she shifted, pressing her leg firmly, deliberately, against the length of Charlotte’s thigh. The pressure was an undeniable claim. “We know you’re straight, Charlie. We wanna fuck you, not marry you.”
The vulgarity, the sheer blunt force of it, stole the air from Charlotte’s lungs. Her cunt clenched, a violent, wet spasm that made her toes curl in her boots. She was boiling inside.Aflame. Terrified. Aroused.Guilty. The cocktail was toxic and electrifying. She couldn’t form a word, could only stare into Trish’s triumphant eyes.
Izzy’s hand, which had retreated during Mike’s presence, returned. It landed high on Charlotte’s other thigh, a mirror to Trish’s claim. Her touch was softer, coaxing. “It’s just feeling, sweetheart. Just letting us make you feel good. Your husband doesn’t need to know a thing. It can be our little secret.” Her thumb found the same maddening inner seam of Charlotte’s jeans and pressed down.Hard.
Charlotte whimpered. It was a tiny, broken sound, lost in the pub’s din. She was split in two. One part, the good wife, was screaming in panic. The other part, a part she never knew existed, was arching into those hands, slick and desperate.
Mike returned then, clutching four large whiskeys sloshing in their glasses. He set them down with a thud. “Bedlam at that bar. Pure bedlam.” He settled back into his seat, completely oblivious to the tectonic shift that had occurred mere inches from him.
Charlotte grabbed her fresh whiskey with a shaking hand and took a huge gulp, the liquid fire doing nothing to douse the one between her legs. Trish and Izzy withdrew their hands, returning to a facade of normalcy, but their eyes promised a later reckoning. The conversation resumed, Mike holding forth about tomorrow’s planned route. But every word Trish or Izzy spoke to Mike was layered with a subtext meant solely for Charlotte. A dropped inflection, a slow lick of the lips, a gaze that lingered too long on Charlotte’s mouth. The heat became unbearable. The smoke, the press of bodies, the relentless, throbbing need. “I need the loo,” Charlotte muttered, shoving back from the table before she could combust.
“I’ll point you the way,” Izzy said instantly, slipping out after her.
The corridor to the toilets was narrow, dark, and blessedly quieter. The fiddle was a muffled cry here. Izzy didn’t point. Instead, she caught Charlotte’s wrist and propelled her into a shallow alcove near a fire door, a space smelling of damp stone and old beer.
“Izzy, I can’t—”
“Shhh.” Izzy crowded her, pinning her against the cold wall. Her body was a soft, curvaceous contrast to the hard stone. “You’re dripping, Charlotte. I can smell it. That clean, sweet pussy of yours is weeping for something it’s never had.”
The words were so filthy, so accurate, they felt like a physical violation. Charlotte’s head thumped back against the wall. “Stop.”
"Just one kiss then Charlie? To satisfy your curiosity" Izzy whispered "A proper kiss is all ..you're straight so it will not have any impact but you'll know, one kiss and we will leave you alone for tonight." Charlie's mind screamed 'No" her body screamed "take me" but she said and did nothing. "So, i'm going to kiss you now sweetie" Izzy whispered in her ear "Just one kiss' Charlie tried to resist "No, please don't my husband is right there" her hands went to Izzy's shoulder and weakly tried to push her away as she leaned in. When their lips touched it felt like a bolt of lightening to Charlie. It was so soft and yet so intense, slowly Izzy ran her tongue along Charlie's closed lips. It made her legs weak but she kept her mouth firmly closed at first. It felt so good but so wrong. After about 20 seconds Charlie opened her mouth slightly, inadvertently , she told herself. Izzy's tongue crept inside her mouth. When it touched Charlie's tongue she almost fainted. Gradually the intensity of the kiss built and eventually Charlie could resist no more. She began responding, the tension in her body forced the response, she was panting, her mouth a coconspirator her hands around Izzy's gorgeous neck. Then Izzy broke the kiss, broke the spell, "That was lovely Izzy, thank you, you're a wonderful kisser" She quietly turned and went back to the bar leaving Charlie a gibbering wet mess. Seconds later she shook herself and dashed to the restroom to try to tidy up.
Seconds later she shook herself and dashed to the restroom to try to tidy up.
The small bathroom was humid, smelling of cheap floral air freshener overlaid with piss. Charlotte gripped the edge of the chipped porcelain sink, her knuckles white. Her reflection was a stranger’s—lips swollen and slick from Izzy’s mouth, eyes wide and dark with a terror that was indistinguishable from want. Her entire body hummed. She could still feel the ghost of that tongue, the soft pressure of Izzy’s body. A low, throbbing pulse between her legs demanded attention, a raw, physical ache she had no framework for.
“You alright in there, darling?” The voice from the other side of the stall door wasn’t Izzy’s. It was lower, smoother. Trish.
Charlotte jumped. “Fine. I’m fine.”
The lock on the main bathroom door clicked with a final, ominous snick. A beat of silence, then Trish’s voice came again, right outside her stall. “Open the door, Charlotte.”
It wasn’t a request. It was a quiet command, layered with an absolute certainty that made Charlotte’s insides liquify. Her hand moved of its own volition, fumbling with the latch. The bolt slid back with a rusty screech.
Charlotte looked terrified - Trish soothed her "She's a great kisser, isn't she, many a straight woman have been gushing after one kiss from my Izzy. So you're still a straight married good girl, say it Charlie"
Charlotte looked at her shocked, scared, curious, aroused and unsure what to do or say so she repeated "I'm straight, I'm married" Trish smiled "Okay maybe a little less good little girl - perhaps I can have one kiss later?" "No no god no please" Charlotte said but Trish had already gone back to their seats. Charlotte returned a few minutes later, physically tidied up and decent , but mentally a wreck of emotions , lust, fear, guilt, shame , lust, denial, lust. Mike was blissful unaware and babbling on about..well frankly Charlotte couldn't figure it our..but smiled and nodded. Izzy and Trish were apparently listening attentively.
Izzy and Trish were apparently listening attentively. Nodding in the right places as Mike held forth on the merits of a particular brand of hiking sock that “wicked moisture like a dream.” Charlotte sank onto the bench, the wood feeling like ice through her jeans. Every nerve ending was on fire, screaming the memory of the alcove, Izzy’s mouth, Trish’s voice in the bathroom. She clutched her whiskey, her palms slick.
“You’re quiet, Charlie,” Trish observed, her voice cutting through Mike’s monologue. Her blue eyes were like x-rays. “Everything alright?”
“Just… a lot of whiskey,” Charlotte managed, forcing a thin smile.
Mike chuckled. “Lightweight. Always has been.” He patted her hand, a patronizing, proprietorial tap. The gesture felt like a lie.
“We should call it a night,” Mike announced, stifling a yawn. “Big climb tomorrow. The Devil’s Staircase. Need our wits about us.”
A bolt of pure panic shot through Charlotte. The thought of returning to their sterile B&B room, to Mike’s predictable, fumbling hands and his instant, snoring sleep, was a death sentence. The energy humming in her veins would have nowhere to go. It would rot inside her.
“So soon?” Izzy pouted, her lower lip pushing out in a show of disappointment that sent a fresh pang through Charlotte’s core. “The night’s still young. We’re just back at our cottage. A five-minute walk. We’ve a bottle of single malt that’s too good to drink alone.” She directed this last part at Charlotte, her big brown eyes wide and imploring. “One nightcap? Send you to bed properly warm.”
Mike wavered, tempted by the whiskey, fatigued by the walk. “I don’t know…”
“Go on, Mike,” Trish said, her tone effortlessly persuasive. “Let the girls have a final drink. You look knackered. We’ll walk your lovely wife back to your B&B safely. Scout’s honor.” She didn’t smile. The promise in her voice was darker, more thrilling than any smile.
The manipulation was masterful. It offered Mike an easy exit, wrapped in concern for his stamina. It isolated the prey. Mike took the bait with a grateful shrug. “Well, if you’re sure. Don’t keep her out too late, Charlie. Big day.”
He pecked her on the cheek, a dry, conjugal press of lips. The contrast to Izzy’s consuming kiss was a profanity. Then he was gone, swallowed by the dark doorway of the pub.
The silence he left behind was immense, charged. The fiddle sawed on, but it was just a soundtrack now. Charlotte was alone with them.
“Come on,” Trish said, standing. It wasn’t an invitation.
The night air outside was a sharp, cold slap, smelling of peat bog and rain. Charlotte stumbled slightly on the uneven path, her head swimming with whiskey and want. Izzy immediately slipped an arm around her waist, steadying her, pulling her close. Her body was a furnace.
“Easy does it, sweetheart,” Izzy murmured, her breath clouding in the dark.
Trish led the way, a confident silhouette against the gloom. They turned off the main road onto a narrower track, the lights of the inn fading behind them. The cottage appeared, a low, stone shape hunched against the hillside, a single yellow window glowing.
Inside, it was gloriously warm, cluttered with walking guides and woven blankets. The smell was of wood smoke and perfume. Trish shrugged off her jacket, revealing the tight black shirt beneath, the tattoos coiling down her arms. She moved to a sideboard and poured three generous glasses of amber liquid, not asking.
“Sit,” she said, nodding to a deep, worn sofa.
Charlotte obeyed, perching on the edge. Izzy sat beside her, not touching, but her proximity was a gravitational pull. Trish handed them their drinks and remained standing, leaning against the mantelpiece, dominating the room. She took a slow sip, watching Charlotte over the rim of her glass.
“So,” Trish said. “Straight. Married.”
Charlotte flinched. “This was a mistake. I should go.”
“You could,” Trish agreed easily. “But what about my kiss? One kiss is all and we will walk you back to Interesting Mike”
"No, no, that can't happen , please, just the drink and I'll go"
"That hardly seems fair" Izzy whispered "I get to kiss you but Trish doesn't?" She put her palm on Charlotte's knee, trying to reassure her. "Just one more kiss for my darling Trish and we will walk you home, scout's honour,,or rather girl guide's honour."
The alcohol made Charlotte a touch slow to respond and the girls took it for consent, even after she eventually said "No, I can't I really can't," but Trish's lips were now approaching hers. Charlotte back away in terror, guilt... but backing away was leaning further into Izzy, whose arms now wrapped around the shaking wife hugging her, protectively as Trish leaned in but did not kiss her mouth , she kissed her neck so softly, then her ear, then sucked on the lobe. Charlotte groaned a weak "No please" Her body sagged against Izzy as Trish kissed her way round to her lips, gently, lovingly "Just one kiss , Charlie" before her mouth pressed against Charlotte's, whose mouth was open, panting before they touched. Trish was soft but somehow more dominant that Izzy had been. More demanding even. Her tongue found Charlotte's and a furnace blazed throughout the wife's body and mind. The kiss was so wonderful, not rushed not clumsy but definitely questioning, challenging. Charlotte began to respond despite herself, Izzy hugged her tight whispering warm sweet reassurances right into her ear as her partner broke down all resistance in the scared woman. Abruptly Trish broke the kiss, her eyes glazed with lust but she said "Okay Izzy let's walk beautiful Charlie back to Interesting Mike before we break our promise to be just one kiss" Trish saw the disappointment in Charlotte's eyes before she recovered breathless, heart pounding and stammered "Thank you, I do need to go" She stood on unsteady legs and the others took a hooked elbow each. They walked her right to her door before each of them kisses her cheek chastely. She looked terrified utterly and totally aroused but also grateful for the restraint shown. Trish smiled sweetly "We are going back to fuck like bunnies remembering what you taste like and imagining we were both fucking you. When you get in bed beside Interesting Mike masturbating imaging it's our fingers and mouth" And they left her gasping and shocked.
