Chapter 1: Introduction

As they sipped on their glasses of wine, the conversation soon turned to more serious matters. Keyda brought up her concerns regarding Dillon's recent behaviour, she felt like something was off lately.

Dillon brushed it away, saying that he had been busy with work but promised to make it up to her later tonight after they got home. Just then, Jamie approached their table with a warm smile on his face. 'Happy anniversary guys! I just wanted to come by and wish you both the best,' he said as he pulled out a chair and sat down opposite them.

'It's great seeing the two of you so happy together.' Dillon smiled appreciatively while Keyda couldn't help but feel slightly uneasy around him. There was just something about Jamie that made her feel uncomfortable - almost as if he knew too much about them. As they continued chatting, Keyda found herself growing increasingly distracted by Jamie's presence. Every time she caught his eye, she felt as though he was trying to communicate something secretive with her - something that she couldn't quite decipher.

It unsettled her and yet, she couldn't shake off the feeling that there was more going on here than what met the eye. As they finished their meals, Jamie excused himself to use the restroom leaving Dillon and Keyda alone once again.

She watched as he leaned back into his seat, staring off into space with a distant look in his eyes. His hands were tightly clenched around his glass, as if holding onto it for dear life. Suddenly, he turned towards her, his gaze piercing right through her soul.

'Keyda, sweetheart, can we talk?' he asked softly, his voice rough with emotion.

She nodded hesitantly, feeling a knot form in her throat. This wasn't exactly how she envisioned their anniversary night would go – full of tension and uncertainty. But then again, lately nothing seemed to be going according to plan.

They adjourned to a quiet corner of the restaurant where they could speak without being overheard. As they settled into their seats, Dillon took her hands in his and looked deeply into her eyes.

'Keyda, I need to tell you something important. It's about our relationship...about us.' He paused for a moment, taking a deep breath before continuing. 'Lately, I haven't been giving you the attention that you deserve. Work has been crazy and I've been neglecting my duties at home. I want things to change between us - I don't want to lose you.'

Tears welled up in Keyda's eyes as she listened to him pour his heart out.

Dillon's confession took her completely off guard - she never expected him to open up in such a vulnerable way. It was clear that he truly cared for her and didn't want to lose her. Suddenly, she felt guilty for all the times she had accused him of not caring enough. Perhaps, she had been wrong all along.

Still, there was something nagging at the back of her mind - something that refused to let go. Every time she thought about it, doubts crept in, clouding her judgment. What if everything he was saying was just an act?

What if he was just playing her again? These thoughts kept running through her head, refusing to be silenced. She couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off. Dillon's sudden show of affection seemed too good to be true - almost as if he was trying to manipulate her somehow.

As they left the restaurant and stepped outside into the cool night air, Keyda found herself withdrawing further into her own thoughts. Her mind raced with all sorts of possibilities - none of which painted a pretty picture.

Dillon had always been known for his charm and charisma, but recently she couldn't help but feel that there was something sinister lurking beneath the surface. Despite this, she couldn't deny the pull she felt towards him - a magnetic force that drew her in despite her better judgement.

The streetlights flickered overhead casting eerie shadows across the pavement. Up ahead, she could see the outline of Dillon's car parked underneath a nearby tree. As they neared, she noticed the engine was still running.
