Chapter 1: Introduction

@18+++++++++++ The train rattled through Jakarta's veins, a pulsating mass of metal and flesh, bridging the gap between work and home. The air was dense with the hum of engines and the chatter of commuters, punctuated by the occasional blare of a horn. Sweat beaded on skin, mingling with the acrid scent of diesel fumes and the faint whisper of frangipani blossoms from a nearby stall.

In the crowded car, bodies pressed together like puzzle pieces, Ibu Aminah stood tall and resolute, her hijab a beacon of modesty amidst the cacophony.

Her eyes, though weary from a long day at the office, sparkled with a warmth that commanded respect. Beside her, Siti clung to her mother's arm, her gaze flickering nervously around the cramped space. The young woman's cheeks bore a smudge of dust, a testament to her clumsy dash to catch the train on time.

"Mama, is it always this crowded?" Siti asked, her voice barely audible over the train's rumble.

Ibu Aminah chuckled, a sound as comforting as a cup of tea on a cold day.

"Only on days like this, my child. Let's just be thankful we're not standing in the aisle," she said, her voice a soft lilt amidst the noise.

In the corner, a group of young men caught Siti's eye. They were laughing loudly, their gazes sweeping over the carriage with an air of entitlement. One of them, a tall figure with muscles that strained against his shirt, met Siti's stare and held it. His smirk sent a shiver down her spine, not of desire, but of unease.

She looked away, tucking a strand of hair back underneath her hijab.

"Who are those boys?" Siti asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Ibu Aminah followed Siti's gaze. Her expression hardened. "Just some young men with no respect for others' space and time. Ignore them, Siti."

One of the young men, Arif, noticed their attention. He nudged his friend, a burly man named Budi, and chuckled. "Look at these two, shy little things. You think they're scared of us?"

Budi grinned, his teeth flashing white against his dark skin.

"Let's have some fun, shall we?"

Arif pushed off from the wall, sauntering towards Ibu Aminah and Siti. The others followed, their laughter echoing like a pack of hyenas. Siti shrank back, her grip on her mother's arm tightening. Ibu Aminah stood her ground, her gaze steady and unyielding.

"Excuse me," Arif said, his voice laced with mock politeness. "You're blocking the way. We need to get through."

Ibu Aminah raised an eyebrow. "I think you'll find there's plenty of room for everyone.

Now, if you'll excuse us..." Ibu Aminah's voice was firm, her eyes never leaving Arif's.

Arif's smile didn't falter. "Oh, come on, Mama. Don't be like that. We just want to get to know you and your little girl better."

Budi stepped closer, his gaze raking over Siti's body. She flinched, her cheeks burning with humiliation. "Yeah, maybe invite us over for dinner. I bet you cook a mean meal, huh?"

Ibu Aminah's grip on Siti's arm tightened.

"Do not touch my daughter," she growled, her voice as sharp as a whip. "And do not speak to us like that. We are not here for your amusement."

Arif's smile vanished, replaced by a sneer. "Feisty, aren't you? I like that." He reached out, grabbing Siti's arm. She gasped, her eyes widening in fear.

"Let go of her," Ibu Aminah snapped, trying to pull Siti away. But Arif's grip was like a vice.

"Make me," Arif taunted, his eyes gleaming with malice.
