Chapter 1: Introduction

As the grand knights tournament of Eldoria approached, the bustling village on the outskirts of the kingdom's grand castle buzzed with anticipation. William, known to most as "Will," stood in the courtyard of his modest blacksmith shop, his eyes trained on the castle's towering spires. The annual event was Will's chance to prove himself, to take that first step toward fulfilling his lifelong dream of becoming a knight. His strong, calloused hands gripped the hilt of a newly forged sword. It was a masterpiece of his craftsmanship, and he hoped it would carry him through the trials ahead. He couldn't help but feel a wave of determination wash over him, drowning out the self-doubt that had lingered in the corners of his mind. Inside his shop, William gathered himself and his supplies for the day, putting on some half-plate armor before turning his open sign over to the closed side. He stepped out of his shop, the finely crafted sword in hand, and readied his horse for the short travel. The tournament was just a few hours away but he wanted to sign up before it was full. He made his way to the festival grounds just outside the castle walls.[1:08 PM]Will's journey to the festival grounds was brisk and determined. His thoughts were consumed by the upcoming tournament, and he couldn't help but replay in his mind the practice swings he'd taken earlier that morning. With each step of his horse, he grew more resolute, knowing that this tournament was his chance to prove himself and begin his journey toward knighthood. The festival grounds were abuzz with activity, vendors peddling their wares, jesters entertaining the crowd, and villagers from near and far filling the air with laughter and excitement. The tournament sign-up booth was nestled in a corner, where a queue of eager participants had already formed. Will guided his horse through the crowd, his steady gaze set on the booth.

𓍊𓋼𓍊𓋼𓍊 𝒸𝒶𝓁𝒶𝓃𝓉𝒽𝒶 ⚘❀ — 10/23/2023 1:39 PMCalantha had never been this close to a palace before, the palace spires passing through the clouds on this sunny summer morning. She was up early making preparations with the other women but she had been awake all night with anticipation of the festival to come. The knights tournament was a mere few hours away, and was one of the greatest spectacles of the year. People traveled from far and wide to test their abilities and hope to become one of the kings respected and honored knights. Only the best of the best would be selected into the new class of knights, and only a single winner would have a special place on the kings guard. Calantha was not here to participate, for she was far from becoming any sort of knight. But, she had caught wind of the tournament while working as a barmaid in a brothel a few towns away and heard they would need healers. Ready to put her skills back to the test Calantha had made her way to the capital joining a small force of women acting as the healing staff for the event. They were stationed in a small tent next to where the men and women were signing up for their chance at glory, assessing capability and taking notes. One of the other women whom Cala had grown quite close with—Elise—braided her silvery white hair with ribbons of the kings colors and let her borrow a simple violet gown. “You have to wear something special!! It’s the kings tournament after all.” She had told Cala, even after much protesting. It would all be soaked in blood by the end of it all regardless. “Next” she called, a short, stout man with a long beard stepping forward. He carried a great axe nearly as tall as he. “Please state your name and next of kin.” She commented, scrawling the information he gave her on her scroll. The healers were taking information in case anyone perished, which was not unusual for tournaments like this, but she was still hopeful they could keep everyone standing. She conducted a few more assessments, one to test eyesight, another for hearing and the final for reflexes. The simple assessment allowed the healers to weed out any candidates who might not be fit for knighthood and the rigorous activity that came with the title. Between candidates Elise flitted over her brown hair plaited in similar braids to Cala’s. She wiggled her eyebrows at her, a mischievous look on her face. “See any that pique your interest!?” Elisa said and Calantha shook her head, rolling her eyes slightly. “Not all of us are here to find a suitable husband Elise, you know why I am here.” “Right, right but it’s still fun to browse isn’t it??” A few of the women had their hearts set on finding their perfect match this tournament but Cala knew better than to get attached. These were her potential patients, and most of them would die in battle someday, if not from the tournament today. “Back to work Elise!” The eldest and leader of their small pack, Thera, scolded the brunette and with a pout she twirled off to her next candidate. Cala peered out of the tent and called, “Next!”(edited)

William Hart — 10/23/2023 2:06 PMWill completed the registration process, offering his information with a mixture of excitement and determination. As he left the registry booth, he couldn't shake the sense that this tournament was the pivotal moment he had been waiting for all his life. The thought of becoming a knight and standing among the heroes he had always admired filled him with unwavering resolve. With his half-plate armor clinking softly as he moved, Will made his way to the small tent where the healers were stationed. The scent of freshly baked pastries lingered in the air, and he couldn't help but follow the tantalizing aroma.Once at the tent, he stood in line, exchanging nods and small talk with other candidates who were also awaiting their assessments. until it was his turn."Next!" a voice calls out from the tent and he stepped in, it was as if he had stepped into another world. The quiet professionalism and sense of purpose within the tent contrasted with the anticipation and excitement that buzzed outside. As Will entered the tent, he found himself momentarily taken aback by the sight of the petite healer with snow-white hair. Her violet eyes, held a certain depth and kindness that he couldn't ignore. Will's introduction was concise, revealing his determination to become a knight despite his comon family history. "Name's William Hart," he said, clearing his throat to steady his voice. "And, well, next of kin would be my parents, but I haven't seen them in years. I reckon I'm on my own now."He couldn't help but feel a bit awkward standing in the presence of such a delicate-looking woman. He was here to pursue his dream of knighthood, but the tenderness in her eyes made him momentarily forget about the tournament and its brutal nature.

𓍊𓋼𓍊𓋼𓍊 𝒸𝒶𝓁𝒶𝓃𝓉𝒽𝒶 ⚘❀ — 10/23/2023 5:08 PMTucking a loose strand of hair behind her pointed ear, Calantha beckoned the next man forward. “Name and next of kin?” She looked up at the man, his large frame towering above her own. Unable to help herself, Cala offered the man a soft smile. His warm brown eyes stared down at her with such determination she felt herself stand a little taller. She scribbled down his information on the parchment and then moved to go about her work. “I’ll be assessing your sight, hearing and reflexes. It’s a quick exam, though you will feel a slight shock but I’ll tell you before that happens.” Having found herself to be much shorter than most of the contestants, Cala acquires a small step stool. A stool which she stood up on now to almost meet William’s eye level. The end of Calantha’s pointer finger lit up, while the other she held up between his eyes. “Alright follow my finger and keep your head still.” She held the light up so she could see his pupils while moving her other finger to the left and right. When finished she snapped and the light was gone. While they worked she attempted her best at a conversation, more than she had with others. “Well William Hart, you’re not to be alone for much longer. You’re about to become apart of a brotherhood, becoming a knight or not.” The tournament likely brought the people together in a way that only a display violence and bloodshed could do. But it brought those shedding their blood much closer, they had much more to lose. She moved onto hearing next, and finally the reflexes. “As a reminder, you’ll feel a light shock.” Her fingers grasped onto his hand, opening his palm. She placed her finger into the center of his hand, a soft glow emanating from the tip once more. A soft shock would pulse through his hand the sensation leaving his extremities tingling, Cala’s eyes closed as she seemed to be sensing something. All of the healers in the tent had some capability of magic, and the assessment was something even a toddler could accomplish. The real test to their abilities would come in a few hours. Cala opened her eyes to meet his gaze once again releasing his hand from her grasp a soft blush creeping up to her freckled cheeks. The elf found herself touching her collarbone, adjusting the gown to make sure her scar was covered. A habit she would likely never break. “Well William I do wish you the best of luck today. I do hope for your sake I don’t see you again today.” She looked around before leaning in slightly whispering under her breath to him “Unless it’s to see you accepting the trophy at the end of all of this.” She paused for but a moment, looking into his eyes again. “Stay safe.” She stepped off the stool to beckon in the next person, but not without turning to look towards him once more.

William Hart — 10/23/2023 5:25 PMOnce she released his hand, he noticed the faint blush on her freckled cheeks and the way she adjusted her gown. The scar on her collarbone didn't go unnoticed, but he said nothing. Instead, he returned her gaze, his eyes filled with a mix of respect and appreciation."Thank you, Cala," he said, his voice warm and filled with genuine gratitude. He couldn't help but hope that the next time he saw her, it would indeed be as the tournament's champion. The whispered encouragement and her final words left a lasting impression, and he nodded in acknowledgment."May we meet agian once i am a knight." he replied, a sense of sincerity in his words as he left the tent, the image of the petite healer with violet eyes still etched in his mind. The tournament was drawing closer, but it wasn't just the quest for knighthood that had captured his thoughts now. As William left the healer's tent, he found himself in a daze, his thoughts consumed by the enigmatic healer with the violet eyes. Calantha's presence had left an indelible mark on him, her kindness and magic lingering in his thoughts like an enchanting spell. The bustling festival grounds seemed to blur around him as he walked, the cheers of the crowd and the clatter of armor fading into the background. He couldn't shake the memory of Calantha's soft smile, her whispered encouragement, and the feeling of her touch during the assessment.(edited)[5:25 PM]As he approached the area where the candidates were assembling for the tournament, he realized he had to refocus. This was his moment, his chance to prove himself, and he couldn't afford to be distracted by a chance encounter. With a deep breath, he let the determination that had carried him this far resurface. The knight's tournament was just ahead, a test of skill, courage, and honor that he had been training for his entire life. It was the culmination of his dreams, and he couldn't allow anything, no matter how enchanting, to divert him from the path he had set for himself. He squared his shoulders, tightened his grip on the finely crafted sword he carried, and stepped forward, joining the ranks of hopeful knights-to-be. The memory of Calantha, the magical creature he had encountered, remained in his heart, but for now, his focus was on the tournament and the destiny he had longed to achieve.October 24, 2023

𓍊𓋼𓍊𓋼𓍊 𝒸𝒶𝓁𝒶𝓃𝓉𝒽𝒶 ⚘❀ — 10/24/2023 8:35 AMA few of the other women gawked at William as he left the tent, his attractive features immediately catching their attention. Elise however, gawked at Calantha. “Close your mouth, you’ll catch a fly in there.” “You little minx!” Elise practically squealed, pulling Cala towards the corner of the tent, pretending to be shuffling through some paperwork. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Cala replied, eyes looking around for Thera's hawk-like gaze. “You assessed him for approximately three minutes longer than you would any other contestant, and I saw your lips moving which means you were actually talking to him!” Cala and Elise had only been friends for a few weeks but she sure had a good read on Cala already. “Ladies. Stop your squawking and finish up. This is the last round and then we will set up in the arena.” Thera’s scolding voice rang out once more. With a wink Elise breezed off to do her next assessment, leaving Cala feeling rather flustered. She would never admit it to Elise but her thoughts continued to stray to William Hart. His kind and determined gaze inspired her. It had made her feel something again. He was a man who was not here for fame or glory but for himself. Something he truly believed in. It had been some time since she felt the need to reach out, but the feeling was overwhelming now. She grasped at the chain on her neck, pulling a small amulet out from under her dress. She pressed it to her lips, mumbling a few words in elven. Shielding her body from any onlookers she felt the light blue crystal begin to get warm and softly glow. She blinked and it was gone, but Cala felt she could breathe easier now. ~ The tournament arena was a massive thing carved from weathered stone, dominated by towering walls similar to those that surrounded the palace. Carved marble statues lined the outer ring. Former Knights of the Tournament, glorious men and women who had lived and died for their King. There was a center stage, carved from the same marble with pillars of flame at each corner. Banners hung in the battlements, all different colors representing the different noble houses of the kingdom, others to show support for a certain contender. Thousands of people filled the seats, screaming and hollering down into the pit below. The healer's tent was settled on the first platform of the spectator's ring. People were seated all around it, but the tent itself occupied a few rows of seats which had been removed and the flaps opened up to a direct view of the arena. Cala and the other women leaned over the stone edge of the platform, looking out into the arena at the large iron gates, anxiously waiting for the contestants to enter and the King to announce the first competition. Calantha found herself wondering if she would be able to pick William out from the crowd if she would be able to remember his armor, his sword, or anything to identify him from all of the other Knights.(edited)

William Hart — 10/24/2023 10:28 AMAmid the sea of expectant faces, William stood with the other hopeful knights-to-be, their armor gleaming in the sunlight. The air was thick with excitement and anticipation, but his focus remained unwavering. He couldn't help but feel a surge of pride as he looked at the other contestants, knowing they all shared the same dream of becoming knights. The towering marble walls and statues of former champions loomed around him, bearing witness to the legacy of valor and chivalry that defined the tournament. William couldn't help but feel a sense of reverence for the knights who had come before him, their deeds inspiring him to prove his own worth. As the murmurs of the crowd continued to grow, a fanfare of trumpets signaled the arrival of King Aldric. The aged but regal monarch, resplendent in his kingly attire, stepped onto the central stage, the weight of his rule evident in his every step. With a booming voice that echoed through the arena, King Aldric announced the beginning of the tournament, his words filled with a sense of grandeur and tradition. The crowd erupted in cheers and applause, and the knights standing before him raised their swords and saluted, their faces marked with determination. The first challenge was to be a test of marksmanship, a chance to showcase their skill with the bow. William knew that this was his not his strongest skill, but he had honed his archery skills meticulously, and he had confidence in his ability to excel in this challenge.[10:31 AM]The knights were directed to the archery range, where targets were set at varying distances. With a determined expression, William took his place alongside the other contestants. He notched an arrow, his deep brown eyes narrowing as he focused on the distant target. The world around him faded into the background, and in that moment, there was only the bow, the arrow, and the target. The King's signal rang out, and the tournament's first competition began. William drew the bowstring with precision, his muscles tensing as he released the arrow. It soared through the air with a grace that belied its deadly intent, striking the target with pinpoint accuracy. The cheers of the crowd and the satisfaction of a well-aimed shot filled him with a sense of accomplishment. As the challenge continued, William remained focused, his determination driving him to excel. This was his chance to prove himself, to move one step closer to realizing his lifelong dream of becoming a knight. And with each arrow he loosed, he drew one step nearer to that destiny.[10:31 AM]As the marksmanship competition drew to a close, the archers had showcased their skills with arrows flying true and landing with precision. The cheers of the crowd and the excitement in the arena were palpable as the contestants made their final shots. William, who had been focused and determined throughout the challenge, found himself in a moment of respite. His quiver was nearly empty, and his final arrow was nocked, ready to be drawn. He glanced around at his fellow competitors, some of them displaying impressive marksmanship skills. Then, as his gaze swept across the spectators' platform, it happened. He locked eyes with Calantha, the petite healer who had assessed him earlier. Her violet eyes held a mix of surprise and delight as they met his. Without breaking his focus, William offered her a quick, sly wink. It was a silent acknowledgment, a small but meaningful connection in the midst of the competition. In that moment, they shared an unspoken understanding, a connection that went beyond words. With a final breath, he drew the bowstring and released the arrow. It sailed through the air, striking the target with remarkable accuracy. The crowd erupted in cheers, and William knew he had given it his all in this challenge. As he raised his bow in triumph as victor in the archery range, he couldn't help but steal one last glance at Calantha. Her presence had left a lasting impression, and their brief but significant encounter had added a touch of magic to the tournament.(edited)

𓍊𓋼𓍊𓋼𓍊 𝒸𝒶𝓁𝒶𝓃𝓉𝒽𝒶 ⚘❀ — 10/24/2023 11:54 AMThe crowd silenced once King Aldric took his place on the stage, giving his welcome speech and announcing the next class of potential Knights. Calantha sought out William as the champions entered through the large iron gate. His sword stuck out to her, the blade glimmering brightly in the sunlight. It was a unique blade, and while she wasn’t one for weapons or armor she could pick out a unique piece of craftsmanship when she saw it. Her father had been a fine crafter of Elven chainmail and taught her a few things about the trade before he had died. The first task would be archery, a less dangerous competition for the contestants but still difficult for most without the strength and precision to shoot an arrow. Calantha personally loved watching archery, another thing she and her father had enjoyed together when she was young. “Cala, we have a patient!” Thera called to her and begrudgingly Cala entered the tent to tend to their first injury. Cala knew why Thera had called for her instead of the other girls. Cala was not only experienced but dedicated to her work and Thera knew that. If she did not stay focused then people would die. The knight that had entered suffered from a split lip and a black eye, his face twisted into a look of pain and annoyance. Cala simply nodded to the man and directed him to one of the cots placed in the tent. She made her way to the wooden cabinet pressed against the back tarp, gathering a variety of herbs and a mortar and pestle. “I reckon this didn’t come from the tournament?” She commented, approaching him with the newly mixed herbal paste. The crowd roared outside and Calantha glanced out towards the arena, curious what had happened. “Came from a bloody cunt that's what, didn’t want me participating and took my spot in line so I socked em’ and he did it back.” Cala only responded with a ‘hmmm’ applying the herbs to his eyes and lip, her fingertips glowing a soft warm light while she worked. The man's one eye widened at the use of her magic and his face relaxed ever so slightly. “Let that sit for a few minutes and then you can leave.” Cleaning up her supplies Cala felt herself rushing to get back out and watch the competition, or perhaps a certain someone participating. She rushed out into the sun on the platform, Elise making room for her. “He’s quite incredible Calantha, you picked a good one.” Elise teased and Cala elbowed her but her eyes were searching for William, picking him rather easily now out of the crowd. His skill with a bow was impeccable. There was an intimidating grace about the way he held the bow, and even at this distance she could see the determination on his brow. The last round about to begin, his eyes met her own and it felt as if the world stilled for that moment, her heart fluttering in her chest as he winked. Calantha felt the amulet grow warm against her chest. Unable to help herself she offered a smile and a soft wave to William as he prepared. With bated breath Cala kept her eyes on William watching as his final arrow made its mark. The crowd erupted in cheers and shouts, Cala’s voice among them as her and Elise began to jump up and down. Beaming down at him Cala leaned over the edge of the stone wall, putting her hand up to her mouth as if she was whispering. In his ear he would hear the healer's voice, a soft whisper on the wind. “That was incredible William.” She put her hand down, glancing around to make sure no one else noticed the small display of magic.(edited)

William Hart — 10/24/2023 12:52 PMWilliam's heart soared as he heard Cala's whispered words carried on the wind. Her encouragement felt like a secret shared between them, and it bolstered his spirits as he basked in the cheers of the crowd. He couldn't help but offer a grateful smile and nod in her direction, acknowledging the magic that had connected them in that brief moment. As the archery competition concluded, the crowd's enthusiasm reached a crescendo, and the contestants moved on to the next challenge. King Aldric once again took the stage, his regal presence commanding the attention of all. His announcement of the swordsmanship competition was met with thunderous applause and cheers from the spectators. With a sense of renewed determination and a heart filled with Calantha's whispered words, William prepared for the upcoming challenge. He tightened his grip on the unique sword at his side, William's self-crafted sword was a masterpiece of blacksmithing and a reflection of his dedication to his craft. It was a beautiful yet terrifying weapon, a perfect balance between form and function. The sword's unique qualities made it a distinctive and fearsome blade on the tournament field. The blade itself was a work of art. It had a slightly curved, single-edged design, which made it ideal for both slashing and thrusting motions. Its steel surface shimmered with a polished finish, catching the light in a way that gave it an almost otherworldly glow. The steel was dark, almost black, as a result of the unique forging process and the use of high-quality materials. What set William's sword apart were the intricate engravings that adorned the blade. Delicate patterns of swirling vines and thorns ran along its length, creating a juxtaposition between elegance and menace. The hilt, wrapped in finely tanned leather, featured a pommel in the shape of a majestic falcon with outstretched wings.[12:52 PM]As the swordsmanship competition progressed, the pairings for the battles were announced, and William found himself facing a massive opponent. The man was a towering figure, his broad shoulders and bulging muscles making it clear that he possessed formidable strength. The clank of his armor and the grip of his massive sword were intimidating in their own right. William couldn't help but feel a mixture of excitement and trepidation as he sized up his opponent. The massive human looked like a formidable adversary, but William had trained for this moment, honing not just his skill but his agility and speed. The duel began with a clash of steel against steel. The sheer power of the massive opponent was evident as their blades met, sending vibrations up William's arms. The crowd erupted in cheers as the two combatants circled each other, and it was clear that many expected the larger fighter to overpower the blacksmith-turned-knight.[12:53 PM]The battle against the massive opponent was fierce, and William's victory came at a heavy cost. As they clashed, the sheer strength of his adversary took a toll on him. Each strike and parry sent shockwaves of pain through his arms and body, and his breath grew heavier with every passing moment. Despite his nimble movements and precision strikes, the massive opponent's brute force could not be underestimated. In a moment of miscalculation, William took a hit to his side. The impact was staggering, and he staggered backward, blood seeping from the wound. The crowd fell silent, and the gasps of concern from the spectators filled the air. William's world spun for a moment, but he gritted his teeth and pushed through the pain. With a determined glare, he continued the battle, drawing upon every ounce of his training and resolve. The odds were against him, but he refused to give in. The final moments of the duel were a blur of steel and sweat. It was a narrow victory for William, his agility and speed allowing him to deliver a precise strike that found an opening in his opponent's defenses. The massive man stumbled and fell, defeated. As the crowd erupted in cheers, they witnessed the blacksmith-turned-knight's triumph, but the price was evident in the pain etched across his face and the blood staining his armor. William had secured his narrow victory.(edited)[12:57 PM]Despite the lingering pain from the wound on his side, William scanned the stands, his eyes darting through the sea of faces. The excitement in the arena was still palpable, but he needed to find her, to share this moment with the person who had provided a spark of inspiration and support when he needed it most.

𓍊𓋼𓍊𓋼𓍊 𝒸𝒶𝓁𝒶𝓃𝓉𝒽𝒶 ⚘❀ — 10/24/2023 2:10 PMThe next event was where Cala lost her appreciation for these tournaments. Where men died in the name of glory–but to her it felt a bit more like nonsense. Elise readied the tent, giving Cala as much time as she could to watch the beginning of William’s fight. Seeing the man he was paired against gave Cala a pang of worry, but she had to trust in his ability. Though she didn’t really know him she felt a strange connection. William was just as incredible with a sword as he was a bow, if not better. It was like a graceful dance, twirling and moving about on the stage–the blade an extension of him. The tent began to fill up as guards brought in the injured survivors of the contest. All with cuts or stabs, varying in severity. Unable to continue watching William, Cala was pulled back to work. Usually she was hyper-focused on her tasks but she felt herself flinch every time the audience gasped or cheered hoping, praying even that William was alright. The healers made quick work of their patients, using the aid of magic to quicken the healing process. Soon enough most cots were filled with unconscious patients. Calantha, stitching up a gash in a woman’s leg felt a sharp chill run down her spine, a tingling sense that something was wrong. She glanced towards the opening in the tent where the audience had stilled, nearly completely silent. Two breaths and they erupted into a loud roar, signaling a victor had been successful. Finishing the stitches on the woman’s thigh and rubbing a mix of herbs over the sutures. She moved to begin sanitizing her hands and tools. Blood caked the violet gown Elise had let her borrow, and her snow-white hair was spattered with it as well “We have another one, he’s lost a lot of blood.” One of the guards called, bringing in their next patient. Her stomach coiled when she looked at the man being held up by two of the guards, his warm brown gaze staring back at her. The world paused once more, her heart hammering in her chest. The fact he was standing before her meant he had won, at least. Her amulet grew warm, hot even as it burned between her breasts. Without hesitation she instructed them to lay William on one of the remaining cot’s and take off the upper half of his armor, giving her access to the wound. She replaced William’s hand over the slice with her own, pressing with surprising strength down onto the wound with a bandage. Still, blood continued to soak the bandages at an uneasy pace. Cala looked at William, worry evident in her violet gaze, but determination in her voice, unwavering.[2:11 PM]“You have to stay awake William, you have lost a lot of blood but you’re in good hands now.” Her hands, which were now soaked in his blood. She reached out then with her magic, letting the warmth of her hands soak into the wound, the soft glow emanating through her and into his veins. While she was a powerful healer, one could only do so much with a wound that was destined to be fatal, but Cala continued, pouring every last ounce of her magic into stopping the bleeding and healing the veins. The glow became brighter, snaking its way into intricate patterns up Cala’s arms and her shoulders to over her chest and down her spine. Different runes seemed to glow on her skin, now only visible when using the strength of her power. The other healers gasped in awe at the display, but Cala’s eyes remained on William. The runes slowly dissipated as the wound started to close. She stopped then, knowing she would need to clean and suture the wound properly instead of using up all of her magic. With the tools ready to go Cala began to get to work disinfecting the wound, now no longer bleeding. “See, almost as good as new, this next part though will be a bit uncomfortable.” Her hands were soft and gentle against his bare skin, a soft look of focus on her face. “I did hope I wouldn’t be meeting you again under these circumstances, but I am glad to see you alive–and still winning at that.” Her voice was kind, a soft smile on her lips as she glanced between him and the suturing.

William Hart — 10/24/2023 2:32 PMAs William lay on the cot, feeling a mix of relief and pain, he couldn't help but be grateful for the swift care he received from Calantha. Her words and actions reassured him, and he was determined to stay awake, as she instructed. His gaze remained locked on her as she worked her healing magic. Her violet eyes, framed by her silvery-white hair, were filled with concern and determination. William could feel the warmth of her hands, the gentle glow of her magic as it seeped into his veins. It was a mesmerizing sight, the intricate patterns of runes on her skin, a testament to her extraordinary healing abilities. The pain from his wound gradually lessened as her magic worked its wonders, closing the injury. He winced only slightly as she began to clean and suture the wound properly, her touch gentle and caring. The uncomfortable sensation was a small price to pay for his life being spared. Her words, filled with kindness and a hint of familiarity, washed over him. Her smile was a source of comfort in the midst of pain and chaos. It was in this moment that William realized that their paths had crossed for a reason. Her presence had been a guiding light, and her magical intervention had saved his life. As the suturing was completed, he offered a weak but genuine smile in return. "Thank you, I... I can't express how grateful I am. And I'm glad to see you again, even if it's under these circumstances." His voice held sincerity, and he reached out to gently touch her hand, as if to convey his appreciation without words.[2:33 PM]With a sense of gratitude and curiosity, William looked into her beautiful violet eyes, her kindness and magical abilities leaving a profound impression. He had to know her name, to remember the healer who had saved him, both with her remarkable skills and her kindness."Thank you again, but" he said, his voice sincere but still weak from the ordeal. "I can't just call you 'healer.' What's your name?" His gaze held hers, an unspoken question behind his words, as if he wanted to remember her name and the connection they had forged amidst the chaos of the tournament. The connection they had formed in the midst of the tournament and now in the healer's tent felt significant, a bond that transcended the chaos of the grand event. William knew that this encounter was more than mere chance, and he couldn't help but feel a growing connection to the extraordinary healer who had not only saved his life but touched his heart.October 25, 2023

𓍊𓋼𓍊𓋼𓍊 𝒸𝒶𝓁𝒶𝓃𝓉𝒽𝒶 ⚘❀ — 10/25/2023 7:34 AMWhen finished, his hand reached out to touch her own gently, rough fingertips grazing her bloodied skin. The amulet was still warm against her chest, something that hadn't happened in quite some time, and Calantha felt that this meeting was meant to have a profound effect on her. That the chance of meeting William and being drawn to him was not just a coincidence. Perhaps more was at play, and Cala knew all too well that anything was possible where magic and the Gods were concerned. She moved to wash her hands of his blood and gather the mortar and pestle once more when he asked for her name. Calantha felt a little foolish, knowing not only his name but also his family history, and she hadn't even given him the same courtesy. She was at his side once more, his gaze still focused intently on her, though his voice was calm, curious. "Oh–My name is Calantha." She felt her cheeks flush again, something she seemed unable to control when in his presence. Cheeks red, her silver freckles stood out more in this close proximity as she rubbed the salve over the sutures on his side. Cala did it slightly differently this time, her finger trailing with that soft glowing light, tracing a rune over the wound. The light faded as she worked, disappearing when she lifted her finger again. Looking up at William once more, she smiled. "For protection." Her voice was barely above a whisper, and she leaned ever so closer to him, not ready to leave him just yet. The flaps to the tent, which had been closed when they started to get busy, opened, four guards entering, Thera close behind, moving to grab Calantha's arm, tugging on her to stand up from the stool she had brought over. "Presenting his Majesty, King Aldric, to deliver the King's Blessing." Wide-eyed, Cala looked to Thera and then Elise across the tent, who was feverishly smoothing her bloodied skirts. The guards parted, and in all his glory, King Aldric stepped forward. He was decorated in silks and jewels, the crown on his head likely worth more than the cost of putting on the tournament. He was a vision of regality and ostentation. Thera curtseyed low, bowing her head, and Calantha followed suit.[7:34 AM]"I wish to meet the man last standing, William Hart, to deliver the King's Blessing." He smiled at the healers, and they both stepped aside to allow the King to bless William. It was less of a religious ceremony and more of a mark of interest. Every year, the King selected a knight he felt was competing remarkably well and had the King's favor for the competition. They sometimes won but usually came out to be successful. The blessing was considered a great honor in the tournament, and the fact it would happen in the healer's tent was unheard of. Cala glanced towards William as the King walked over, placing his hand on William's shoulder. "Take this blessing, my friend, and may you move forward with honor and knowledge that you best serve your King!" King Aldric smiled again, looking at the sutures on the man's side. "I did think you wouldn't make it, ole chap, the big fuck out there took a good chunk out of you! Good thing I hire the best of the best to tend to my knights." The King nodded to Thera and Cala, his eyes scanning over her slowly, sizing her up. "Thera, bring this one to my box to watch the final challenge. It is not often that a Healer of the Rune Keepers joins us." There was curiosity in the King's voice, and Cala gave a disapproving look towards Thera, who had likely given her identity as a Rune Keeper away. Aldric looked towards William once more, slapping his hand on his shoulder a few times. "Best of luck, my boy. I hope to be Knighting you at the end of this. Alright, ladies, patch 'em up and send 'em back in!" The King offered a grand bow, winking at William as he exited the tent. Calantha gathered fresh water for him to drink, adding a few herbs to help restore his energy. She returned to William's side, closer this time, bringing the cup to his lips while softly brushing a strand of dark hair out of his face. "I know not what the last competition is, but I will be watching with great interest." She set the cup down and glanced around to make sure none of the other healers were watching her. Biting her lip, she seemed unsure about something before the same brilliant determination flashed through her eyes. She pulled the amulet out from under her dress, the blue crystal still glowing. She slipped the chain over his head, pressing her hand against his chest over the crystal. She gazed into his eyes, a hint of mischief lingering on her face. "Please stay safe. I will need you to return this to me after all."

William Hart — 10/25/2023 1:11 PMAs King Aldric bestowed his blessing upon William, the blacksmith felt more hopeful about finally becoming a knight, he felt a mix of surprise and gratitude. This was a rare honor, and it added a layer of pressure to the final challenge. His heart swelled with a sense of duty and a renewed determination to make it through the tournament, not just for himself but now also for the King who had shown an interest in his success. Amid the regal presence of the King, Calantha, the healer who had become a beacon of light in his darkest moment, was a comforting presence. Her smile, her touch, and the glow of her magical healing had not only mended his wound but also moved his heart in a way he hadn't anticipated. King Aldric's departure from the tent left William alone with Calantha, and he couldn't help but feel a sense of intimacy between them, as though the events of the day had woven a connection that transcended mere words. As she brought a cup of water to his lips, William drank eagerly, feeling his strength return. He was about to express his gratitude when Calantha moved closer, a hint of mischief in her eyes. The exchange of the amulet took him by surprise, and as she gently placed it around his neck, he met her gaze with a mixture of curiosity and warmth. "I will," he replied, his voice soft but earnest. "For you, for the King, and for the dream I've harbored all my life."(edited)[1:12 PM]He couldn't help but smile as he looked into her eyes. The amulet rested against his chest, it felt warm as he tucked it into his armor. As William stood up, ready to leave the healers' tent and face the final trial of mounted combat, he couldn't help but steal one more moment with Calantha. His eyes sparkled with a mixture of excitement and gratitude as he leaned in closer to her."You know, Calantha, having you watching over me gives me more confidence than any blessing from the King," he said, his voice a playful whisper as he flashed her a charming smile. Feeling the amulet warm against his chest in response to their connection, he couldn't help but be intrigued by the magical connection they seemed to share. It was a subtle yet undeniable sign that their fates were intertwined, and he was determined to see where it would lead. With a wink and a final look into her enchanting violet eyes, he turned and walked out of the tent, his heart lighter and his spirit ready to face the ultimate test of the tournament.(edited)

𓍊𓋼𓍊𓋼𓍊 𝒸𝒶𝓁𝒶𝓃𝓉𝒽𝒶 ⚘❀ — 10/25/2023 2:19 PMHis words made her heart swell, butterflies fluttering away in her stomach. Her blush deepened her chest, and her cheeks flushed red. It seemed foolish to Cala to react in such a way over a man she just met, but there was no denying the connection she felt to him. She only wondered if he felt it, too. Like a golden thread, twining their hearts and fate together. Cala found it hard to watch him leave the tent, her instincts nearly screaming at her to go with him, to stay with him. She found comfort in needing to see him again to retrieve her amulet and hoped he would seek her out to return it. Or perhaps she would track him down; he wouldn't be hard to find if he won. Cala couldn't help but still feel worried about William, having just been so direly injured and now having to compete once more, but her gut told her to have faith in him. This was his dream, and it was up to no one but him to see it through. Calantha cleaned herself up best she could, ridding her skin of all the blood before she went to see the King. She was unsure of his motives, knowing not much of his rule or Kingdom…or opinion on the Rune Keepers. Most saw the organization as necessary, the healers the most capable. Others saw it as a threat, an organization hoarding power in the form of knowledge. Calantha had seen the different paths one could take as a Rune Keeper, but one sect had taken it too far, and Cala intended to learn if the King was for or against it. The royal viewing box was as ostentatious as the King's attire, and Cala would have appreciated the display of wealth had it been more tasteful. Still, she reminded herself to keep her tongue. Offering her deepest of curtsies upon entering, the King ushered her in and presented her with a tall champagne flute filled to the brim. "Had I known a Rune Keeper was in my midst, I would have sent the best of supplies and herbs to the tent." It was meant to be an apology, but Cala took a certain offense to it. The title of Rune Keeper was not to hold status or power over anyone. It was to display dedication to one's craft.[2:19 PM]"We are trained to make do with the resources provided to us. What you have offered was just fine." She replied, and the King chuckled, raising his glass towards her. The other nobles in the viewing box ogled her, some as if she was scum of the earth and others as if she was their prey. Neither one was preferred. "To our Blessed Champion William, may he persevere in this next challenge." Cala raised her glass to his, clinking them together before sipping the champagne. It was delightful, just the right amount of bubbly with a hint of summer peach."You're a smart girl. You know I asked you here for a reason." The King's tone shifted, his face growing serious, worried even. "My youngest boy, something's wrong with him. I've had the best physicians in the Kingdom, every last one of them. They all come back to me saying there's nothing that can be done. But here you are, a Rune Keeper, right on my doorstep. It's like the Gods are speaking to me." Cala felt a pang of guilt for the King–the concern in his eyes was evident. "And which Gods are speaking to you exactly, Aldric." One of the nobles scoffed, and a few gasped at her using his first name. The King only offered her a smile, raising his glass once more. "The ones that put you on the path to this Kingdom, Calantha." He'd at least had the decency to ask Thera for her name. "I want to ask you to join my staff at the palace and look over my boy and anyone else who gets sick or injured. I'll have a nice set of rooms made ready for you and your own office, full access to the royal library." The deal was sweet as honey, almost too sweet, but Calantha pushed her suspicions to the side. "Alright. I accept." He nodded his head, but the look in his eyes showed her a hint of relief. The final event was announced, and Cala made her way to the front of the viewing box, a seat next to the King to watch the final competitors face off in mounted combat. Calantha waited anxiously for William's name to be called, her eyes trained on him when the moment finally did come. Perhaps they would be seeing much more of each other, amulet or not.

William Hart — 10/25/2023 3:40 PMA regal horse stood in the Stable, a magnificent beast with a glossy ebony coat that gleamed in the sunlight. Its powerful muscles rippled beneath its skin, and its eyes held a fierce but intelligent glint. The horse was a prepared by the King's men, showing his dedication to providing only the best for the tournament's final event. As William approached the horse, he could sense the animal's restlessness. The horse shifted its weight from one hoof to the other, its nostrils flaring as if sensing the anticipation of the battle ahead. The previous rider had dismounted, and it was now up to William to establish a connection with the horse. With a soothing voice, William approached the horse, his hand extended palm-up. He allowed the horse to sniff his hand, slowly and cautiously. The animal's hot breath washed over his skin, and William maintained a calm and reassuring presence. He whispered gentle words of encouragement as he stroked the horse's powerful neck, feeling the tension in the beast's muscles begin to dissipate. Once he sensed that the horse was more at ease, William took a deep breath and confidently mounted the steed. The feeling of control surged through him as he gripped the reins. The powerful animal was now his to command, and the trust between knight and horse was established. As the final match was announced, the audience's fervor reached its peak. William's name was called, and he guided his steed into the arena, alongside another undefeated knight, clad entirely in black. The contrast between the two competitors, one in shining armor and the other in shadowy attire, was striking.[3:41 PM]With his opponent clad in darkness and anticipation hanging heavy in the air, William found himself looking up to the King's booth. There, high above in the royal box, he saw a gathering of noble attendees, their rich garments and glittering jewels making a stark contrast to the warriors in the arena. His gaze, however, was drawn to a familiar face among the spectators – Calantha. Their eyes met for a brief moment, and a silent exchange of support passed between them. With a deep sense of respect and gratitude, he inclined his head in a brief but profound bow towards the royal booth. As he did, his gauntleted hand moved to his chest, where the pendant, a gift from Calantha, hung beneath his armor. He clutched the pendant to his heart, silently promising himself that he would do his best in this final battle. The arena itself buzzed with energy as William squared off against his opponent, shield in one hand and his unique, self-crafted sword in the other. The sword was a work of art and an extension of his being, its blade shimmering with a fearsome beauty. The sun glinted off its polished surface, a stark contrast to the other knight's dark attire and weapon. As the signal to begin was given, the two knights charged towards each other, their horses galloping with the thunderous resonance of war. William's grip on his shield tightened, using it to deflect his opponent's initial attack. The impact sent a shockwave through his arm, but he held his ground. With a swift, graceful movement, he countered with a precise and calculated strike of his own. His sword slashed through the air, the beauty of the blade contrasting with the brutal nature of the battle. Sparks flew as their weapons clashed, the sound of metal against metal echoing throughout the arena.[3:42 PM]The battle between William and the black-armored knight raged on, each blow and clash of weapons echoing through the arena. The crowd watched in anticipation, the suspense growing with each passing moment. As the duel reached its crescendo, William's opponent, a crafty and experienced combatant, resorted to a dirty move. With a sudden and unexpected maneuver, the black-armored knight made a reckless charge at William, aiming to unseat him from his horse. Using his shield and the element of surprise, the opponent's attack was successful, causing William to lose his balance and tumble from the saddle. However, the fall didn't deter William. He swiftly rose to his feet, determination etched across his face. Without hesitation, he dropped his shield, opting for a two-handed grip on his beautiful sword. The crowd gasped, uncertain of his decision, but as they watched, they saw a steely resolve in his eyes. As the black-armored knight charged towards him, William timed his parry perfectly. With a swift and skillful movement, he deflected the incoming blow and countered with a powerful strike that brought his opponent to a sudden halt. The resounding impact of his blade striking true was felt throughout the arena. But as the black-armored knight teetered on the edge of his saddle, it became clear that William's blow had been a decisive one. The crowd held its collective breath, waiting to see the outcome. As if acknowledging his victory, the black-armored knight wavered and then fell from his horse. The audience erupted in cheers, the joy and exhilaration in the arena palpable. It was a dramatic and unexpected turn of events, and William, triumphant in his performance, couldn't help but let out a victorious shout. As the elation coursed through him, the pendant beneath his armor seemed to react.October 26, 2023

𓍊𓋼𓍊𓋼𓍊 𝒸𝒶𝓁𝒶𝓃𝓉𝒽𝒶 ⚘❀ — 10/26/2023 8:11 AMCalantha watched eagerly, practically leaning halfway over the railing to get a better look at the contestants, and more particularly, William. “It seems that one has made quite an impact on you.” Aldric commented, coming to lean over the railing next to her, swirling his drink in his hand. Williams' hand went to his chest, bowing his head towards her. The King offered a wave of acknowledgement but Calantha knew the gesture was meant for her. “It is not often you meet someone who seems to understand everything you want to say without you having to utter a word.” It was a shocking truth for her to speak out loud, let alone to the King himself, but Cala meant it. The pair collided in a clang of metal, William blocking his opponent's first swing. The rest of the King's words were drowned out as Cala watched William be knocked from his saddle, his horse continuing on in the arena while the dark armored knight circled his horse and began to charge. William rose to his feet, neglecting his shield, taking his sword in both hands. The crowd was silent, the stillness of this many people unsettling. They collided once more, Calantha unable to decipher what was happening from this far away, their bodies a blur of metal. It wasn’t until she saw the shining of William’s armor and glimmering of his sword held high in the air did she release the breath she was holding. Calantha joined in on the crowd's cheers, grinning down towards William in excitement. In another moment of stillness between them Cala felt her wrist grow warm. That familiar glow emanating, barely visible, on the inside of her forearm. A small rune had appeared, the symbol unfamiliar to Cala. For a brief moment she felt his own excitement of his victory, the swell of emotion overwhelming before it washed away. The same rune would appear on William’s arm, the amulet warm against his chest as he feels a sense of pride, though different from his own. Pulling her from their shared moment amidst the chaos was the King and his attendants. “Your apartments have been prepared, my staff will take you to get ready for the festivities this evening. I must go announce our winner and welcome a new class of skilled Knights to my rank. The ceremony is even more grand of an affair than the tournament, just you wait.” He offered her a wink before four women were ushering her off down the stairs. “Please, certainly I can stay to help the healers clean up their supplies. There’s still work to be done.” She protested but they only shook their heads. “The other healers have been sent to ready themselves as well, someone will take care of the supplies.” They reassured but she found herself continuing to glance back into the arena hoping to catch one last glance at William before she was whisked away to the palace. One of the women chuckled. “Don't worry dearie, you’ll see him soon. You and all the girls are anxious to meet him.” Calantha felt a heat rush to her cheeks, tilting her chin up as they escorted her to her new home. The Knights had rushed into the arena to swarm William, lifting him into the air, chanting and singing of their new brethren. Flowers and streamers fell from the sky, floating down into the arena as the sun slowly began to set behind the tall marble statues of the structure. The crowd parted for their King who made his way onto the stage, announcing this year's victor and the festivities to follow the tournament. The Knights were to celebrate with an extravagant feast in the palace, their last night of ‘freedom’ before devoting their lives to their King.

William Hart — 10/26/2023 12:10 PMAs the crowd's cheers reverberated throughout the arena, the King made his way to the stage to announce the victor. The Knights who had surrounded William were celebrating his triumph, their camaraderie evident as they hoisted him into the air and sang songs of their new brother in arms. With the sun casting long shadows and the sky beginning to blush with the colors of twilight, the marble statues in the arena seemed to come to life, illuminated by the fading light. The crowd continued to celebrate, flowers and streamers falling gently from the sky like confetti, enhancing the festive atmosphere. King Aldric, standing tall and regal at the center of the stage, raised his hand for silence. The crowd hushed, eager to hear the final announcement. He declared William the victor of the tournament and the crowd erupted in applause once more, their voices thundering like a wave crashing against the shore."Sir William Hart, the newest member of our esteemed order," the King proclaimed, "as the champion of this year's tournament, you have shown valor, skill, and the spirit of a true knight. This evening, we celebrate your victory in an extravagant feast within the palace walls, where your journey to knighthood shall culminate in the sacred oath." With the formal announcement made, the Knights roared in approval, Amidst the celebrations and cheers of the crowd, Sir William Hart couldn't help but notice an unusual sensation on his hand. As he looked down, he discovered a small, detailed black rune etched into the skin on the back of his hand, between his thumb and index finger. The rune had sharp edges and intricate markings, like an ancient symbol of power. He had never seen anything quite like it before.[12:10 PM]A sense of wonder and curiosity coursed through him, but he didn't have much time to dwell on it as he was led towards the grand palace for the night's festivities. The journey to the palace was a regal affair in itself, as his fellow knights escorted him, their jubilant spirits and camaraderie filling the air. Upon arrival at the palace, he was led to luxurious accommodations where he could finally relax. The servants prepared a bath for him, soothing his aching muscles and tending to the minor bruises and cuts he had acquired during the mounted combat. They were swift and skilled, and the healing arts they practiced ensured that he emerged from the bath refreshed and revitalized. Dressed in fine regal clothing of blue, white, and gold, Sir William Hart looked every bit the part of the victorious knight. The attire was impeccable, tailored to perfection, and he felt the weight of the honor that had been bestowed upon him. He examined himself in the mirror, appreciating the transformation from a battle-hardened warrior into a symbol of elegance and nobility. The great hall of the palace was resplendent, adorned with opulent decorations, lavish tapestries, and grand chandeliers that illuminated the space. He had felt a connection with her, a connection that transcended the battlefield, and he wanted to share his victory with her. As his eyes scanned the room, he felt a sense of longing to see her once more.[12:14 PM]William yearned to approach her, to express his gratitude for her part in his victory, and to ask about the mysterious mark on his hand. However, the celebrations were in full swing, and he was soon whisked away by well-wishers and the King's attendants, leaving him with no choice but to prepare for the grand feast in his honor.
