Chapter 1: The Unexpected Turn

The air in the penthouse crackled with tension, thick enough to cut with a knife—or a claw. Felicia Hardy, known to the world as The Black Cat, lounged back in her chair, her black fur boa draped like a serpent over her bare shoulders. Her sharp nails tapped rhythmically against the edge of the table, each click echoing through the room like a metronome. “Another pair of socks bites the dust, darling,” she purred, her voice dripping with mock sympathy as she raked in a fresh pile of chips. The other players shifted uncomfortably, their eyes darting between her smirking face and their shrinking stacks.

Across the table, a burly Texan wiped the sweat from his brow, his face flushed beneath his Stetson. His massive hands trembled as he clutched his cards, the edges crumpled from his grip. “I… I fold,” he muttered, his voice barely audible over the low hum of the room. He pushed his remaining chips forward with a defeated sigh, his shoulders slumping.Felicia’s lips curled into a feline smile, her green eyes glinting with mischief.” She flicked her wrist with a flourish, sending a playful cascade of chips toward the center of the table.” Her voice was like velvet, smooth and inviting, but there was a sharp edge beneath it that made the other players squirm.

A nervous energy gripped the room, thick and suffocating. The remaining players—a mix of seasoned pros and wide-eyed amateurs—exchanged uneasy glances. They had come for fame and fortune, lured by the promise of high stakes and higher rewards. Now, they were just pawns in Felicia’s game, each one more desperate than the last. One by one, they folded, their dreams of glory stripped away along with their garments.

Just as the dealer began to shuffle the cards for the next round, a soft thud echoed from above. Heads turned, whispers erupting as a figure dropped gracefully from the ventilation shaft, landing silently behind Felicia. Batgirl straightened, her yellow bodysuit gleaming under the dim lights like a beacon of justice. “Sorry to crash the party, kitty cat,” she announced, her voice amplified by her cowl.Felicia lazily turned in her chair, her eyes raking over Batgirl’s costume with an unimpressed smirk. “Batgirl,” she drawled, feigning boredom as she twirled a lock of her dark hair around one clawed finger. “How predictable.” Her voice was laced with mockery, but there was a flicker of something else in her gaze—curiosity, perhaps.

“Someone has to,” Batgirl quipped, stepping forward with a confident stride. She pulled up a chair at the table without waiting for an invitation, her movements fluid and deliberate.” Her tone was light but pointed, her eyes locked on Felicia’s.

Felicia arched an eyebrow, her tail twitching behind her like a cat ready to pounce. “Fairness? In Vegas?” She leaned back in her chair, crossing her legs with deliberate slowness.Batgirl ignored the bait, her expression calm and focused. She reached into her utility belt and pulled out a stack of chips, sliding them onto the table with a decisive clink. “I’m buying in.” The challenge in her voice was unmistakable, and the room seemed to hold its breath.

The dealer, a portly man with a comb-over and a shaky hand, nervously shuffled the cards. His eyes darted between Batgirl and Felicia, as though he were caught in the crossfire of a battle he didn’t understand. The tension in the room was palpable, a mix of fear and excitement that hung heavy in the air.

The first few rounds were brutal. Batgirl, seemingly plagued by a string of impossibly bad hands, quickly shed her utility belt, then her cape. Each discarded garment was met with a hushed murmur from the onlookers, their eyes wide with disbelief. Felicia watched with a smug smile, her tail flicking lazily behind her.” she purred, leaning forward to rest her chin on her hand.Batgirl smirked, her eyes narrowing as she met Felicia’s gaze. “Don’t count your winnings yet, kitty cat.” She pushed her remaining chips all in with a decisive motion, her voice steady and confident.Felicia’s eyes widened for the briefest moment, a flicker of surprise crossing her face before she quickly masked it with her usual arrogance. This was unexpected—Batgirl wasn’t supposed to be this bold. “Oh, Batgirl,” she breathed, a dangerous glint in her eyes as she leaned back in her chair.” Her claws flexed against the table, and for the first time all night, the room felt truly electric.
