Chapter 1: The First Night
The dorm room hummed. A single lamp on Caroline’s desk pushed back the darkness, leaving the corners in soft shadow. Diane lay on her stomach on her own bed, chin propped on her hands, staring at a physics textbook she hadn’t absorbed a word of in twenty minutes. The air smelled like fabric softener from the dryers down the hall and, underneath it, the faint, persistent tang of gym sweat.
Her body felt alien on the narrow mattress. Six months. That’s all it had taken. The memory of fitting into the driver’s seat of her old Honda, of Sam easily lifting her, felt like someone else’s life. Now her shoulders strained the seams of her t-shirt, and her thighs, thick and powerful, seemed to take up too much space. She both reveled in the strength and hated the way men’s eyes slid over her now with wary assessment instead of easy attraction.
“You’re thinking too loud.” Caroline’s voice was a low, warm thing from the other side of the room.
Diane rolled onto her back, the springs groaning. “Is that a thing?”
“It is in here.” Caroline set her sketchbook aside. She was a long, elegant sprawl in her desk chair, one leg hooked over the arm. At six-one, she made everything in the room look slightly miniature. “It’s the body stuff again, isn’t it?”
“It’s always the body stuff.” Diane sighed, sitting up. The movement made her chest feel heavy. “I ordered a hoodie online. In my old size. Forgot. Put it on this morning and looked like I was trying to smuggle melons.”
Caroline’s laugh was rich and unapologetic. “I’d pay to see that. But also, your old size was a child’s size, Di. You’re a woman now. Built. It’s spectacular.”
“Sam didn’t think so.”
“Sam was a boy who wanted a doll he could carry around. You outgrew him. Literally.” Caroline stood, stretching, and the hem of her tank top rode up, revealing a slice of toned stomach. She walked to the mini-fridge and pulled out two cans of hard seltzer. “Here. Let’s get to know each other properly. My treat.”
The first can was cracked open with a crisp hiss. The second followed. Diane took it, the aluminum cool and beaded with moisture. She wasn’t much of a drinker, but the offer felt like a lifeline. “To not thinking loud,” she said, tapping her can against Caroline’s.
“Deal.”
They drank. They talked. The conversation flowed easily, skating from terrible cafeteria food to embarrassing high school stories, from Caroline’s art major to Diane’s uncertainty about her own. The second can appeared, and the room grew softer, warmer. Diane felt the tight coil of self-consciousness in her chest begin to loosen.
“Okay,” Caroline said, settling onto the floor with her back against Diane’s bed. “Truth or dare. Old school.”
“Are we twelve?”
“We’re avoiding our reading. It’s the same principle.” Caroline’s eyes gleamed in the lamplight. “Truth or dare, Diane.”
“Fine. Truth.”
“Boring, but okay.” Caroline took a slow sip. “That guy Sam. Best sex you ever had with him, scale of one to ten.”
Diane blinked. The question was a dart, hitting right in the bruised place. “A four. Maybe. It was… fine. Quick. He always seemed sort of surprised by the whole thing afterward. Like he’d gotten away with something.”
“A four.” Caroline shook her head, a smile playing on her lips. “Tragic. Your turn. Ask me.”
“Truth or dare?”
“Dare. Always dare.”
Diane looked around the mundane room for inspiration. “I dare you to text the last person you hooked up with and tell them you’re pregnant.”
Caroline didn’t even flinch. She pulled out her phone, thumbs flying. A minute later, a response buzz. She showed Diane the screen. The reply read: LOL which one? Congrats tho.
They both dissolved into helpless, wheezing laughter. The third can appeared. Diane’s head was pleasantly fuzzy.
“My turn,” Caroline said, her voice dropping into a more intimate register. The laughter had faded, leaving something charged in the quiet. “Diane. Truth or dare.”
The look in Caroline’s eyes made the word catch in Diane’s throat. “Dare,” she finally whispered.
“I dare you to touch yourself. Right here. Right now.”
The air vanished from the room. Diane’s heart thudded against her ribs, a heavy, slow drum. She should say no. This was crazy. They were roommates. But the seltzer was warm in her veins, and Caroline’s gaze was steady, approving, not predatory. It was a dare, not a demand. And a secret, hungry part of her, the part that loved the new weight of her hips, the curve of her own bicep, stirred awake.
“You’re serious.”
“Deadly.”
A long, silent beat stretched between them. Then, moving slowly, as if in a dream, Diane shifted to lean back against her headboard. She kept her eyes locked on Caroline’s as her own hand slipped under the waistband of her sweatpants.
The touch was electric. A sharp gasp escaped her. She was already wet, a fact that sent a flush of heat up her neck. She let her fingers circle, her head falling back against the wall with a soft thump. Her eyes slid shut.
“Look at me,” Caroline said, her voice closer now.
Diane’s eyes fluttered open. Caroline had moved. She was kneeling on the bed beside her, a towering, beautiful presence. Diane’s hand kept moving, the rhythm growing less tentative.
“Do you like it?” Caroline asked, her voice barely a murmur. “Your body now? This strength?”
“I don’t know,” Diane breathed, her hips lifting off the mattress. “Sometimes. I feel… powerful. But too much.”
“You’re not too much.” Caroline’s hand, cool and sure, came to rest on Diane’s abdomen, over her t-shirt. The touch was grounding and incendiary all at once. “You’re incredible. A revelation.”
Her other hand rose, hovering near the swell of Diane’s breast. A question in the air. Diane, lost in the building sensation and the dizzying permission of it all, gave a tiny, desperate nod.
Caroline’s palm cupped her fully, thumb brushing over her nipple through the thin cotton. The sensation rocketed through Diane, sharp and sweet. Her fingers worked faster, plunging deeper inside herself, the sound obscenely loud in the quiet room.
“That’s it,” Caroline coaxed, her thumb circling, pressing. “Let me see you. Let me see how good it feels to be in this skin.”
The orgasm built like a wave, slow and massive, from the soles of her feet to the roots of her hair. It wasn’t the frantic, hidden thing she was used to. It was a claiming. As she cried out, back arching, Caroline’s hands were there—one steadying her stomach, the other cradling her breast, holding her together as she fell apart.
For a long moment, there was only the sound of ragged breathing. Diane floated, boneless, her fingers still tingling. As she slowly came back to herself, she became aware of a new, firm pressure against her thigh. Caroline was still kneeling beside her, her breath coming in short, controlled bursts.
Diane’s gaze traveled down. The soft gray sweatpants Caroline wore did little to conceal the thick, prominent length that had risen beneath them, straining the fabric. It was unmistakable. Impossible. Far larger than any she had ever seen or imagined.
Caroline followed her look. She didn’t move away, didn’t apologize. A faint, vulnerable defiance flickered in her eyes.
Before Diane could process it, before she could form a single question, Caroline leaned down. Her lips were soft, gentle, as they pressed against the damp skin of Diane’s temple. Then, lower, to her cheek. Then, with a hesitation that felt profound, to the corner of her mouth.
The kiss tasted like salt and seltzer. It lasted only a second.
Caroline pulled back, her expression unreadable. “Your turn,” she whispered, her voice husky. “Truth or dare.”
Diane, her mind spinning, her body still humming, could only stare at the profound bulge in her roommate’s pants, then up into her dark, waiting eyes. The game had irrevocably changed.
The game had irrevocably changed.
Diane’s gaze remained locked on the imposing bulge in Caroline’s sweats. Her mind, still soft from orgasm and alcohol, scrabbled for purchase. This wasn’t possible. But it was, undeniably, there. The fabric strained.
“Truth or dare, Di,” Caroline repeated, her voice a low vibration in the charged silence. She didn’t attempt to hide or adjust herself. The defiance was still there, but it was tempered now by something vulnerable—a waiting.
“Truth,” Diane blurted out, needing solid ground.
A faint smile touched Caroline’s lips. “Okay. Truth. What are you thinking right now, exactly this second?”
Diane swallowed. Her finger was still inside herself. She slowly withdrew it, the movement sending a final, fading shiver through her. “I’m thinking… that’s impossible. And I’m thinking I should be freaking out. But I’m not. I’m just… really curious.”
The tension in Caroline’s shoulders eased a fraction. “Good answer.”
“My turn. Truth or dare?”
“Dare.”
Diane’s courage, bolstered by the lingering heat in her veins, sparked. “I dare you to show me.”
Caroline’s eyes widened, just for a second. Then, without a word, she hooked her thumbs into the waistband of her sweatpants and pushed them down, just enough. The lamplight caught the smooth, thick length of her, rising from a neat patch of dark curls. It was frankly, breathtakingly huge, and as Diane stared, she saw it give a slight, involuntary twitch.
“Satisfy the curiosity?” Caroline asked, a hint of a challenge returning.
Diane could only nod, her mouth dry. The curiosity was not satisfied. It was ignited.
“It’s late,” Caroline said softly, pulling her sweats back up. She stood, her height once again dominating the room. “We should sleep. Morning comes early.” She turned and walked to her own bed, climbing in and turning her back, pulling the covers up with a finality that felt both like a dismissal and a respite.
Sleep didn’t come easily. Diane lay in the dark, the phantom sensations of Caroline’s hands on her skin warring with the image burned onto her retina. The last coherent thought she had was a memory of Sam’s disgusted face, followed by a treacherous, thrilling question: What would it be like?
A brutal, bright pain behind her eyes was the first herald of morning. Diane groaned, rolling over. The movement felt wrong. Restricted. She blinked open gritty eyes.
The ceiling seemed closer. She pushed herself up on her elbows, and the sheet fell away from her chest. Her breath hitched.
Her breasts, already substantial, now swelled against the lavender cotton of her sleep bra, spilling over the cups in soft, heavy curves. The side seams bit painfully into her flesh. She looked down at herself, the hangover momentarily forgotten. Her shoulders rounded with new, denser muscle, the deltoids pressing against the straps. A deep, confusing thrill shot through her, immediately followed by a wave of anxiety.
“No,” she whispered to the empty room. Caroline’s bed was neatly made, she was already gone.
Diane swung her legs out of bed, her body moving with a new, unfamiliar weight. She felt solid. Immense. She stumbled to the small mirror tacked to the back of the door.
The woman looking back was a amplified version of herself. Her face was the same, but her neck and shoulders flowed into a powerful, tapered frame. Her pajama top stretched taut across her back. She felt a dizzying cocktail of horror and desire. More, that secret part of her hummed. Yes.
With a sigh, she began the daily battle of the wardrobe. Her favorite t-shirt, a soft heather gray one, refused to cooperate. She got it over her head, but the shoulders locked, the seams screaming in protest. She wrestled with it, twisting, finally managing to yank it down over her torso. It was comically tight, outlining every new contour of her abdomen and chest, the fabric straining dangerously across her back and biceps. It would have to do. She found a pair of athletic shorts with an elastic waistband, the only thing that seemed forgiving.
She was standing there, feeling like a sausage in its casing, when the dorm room door clicked open.
Caroline stepped in, carrying two paper cups of coffee.
