Chapter 3: The Piercing Truth
The five hundred credits burned a hole in Sera’s wrist, a phantom weight more tangible than the corset. It was freedom, taunting her from just beneath her skin. She wandered the less-traveled spirals of the Petting Zoo, away from the main throbs of light and sound, looking for a place to sleep that wouldn’t devour her new fortune. The hourly capsules were tombs that charged by the minute. She needed something else.
The usual cacophony of moans, laughter, and transaction seemed muted, diluted. The streets felt different. Not empty, but evacuated. The few figures she saw moved with a hurried, hushed purpose, heads down, avoiding the shimmering puddles of neon as if they were acid. The sweet-musky air held a new note: ozone, sharp and anxious, like the smell before a lightning strike.
She saw a woman adjusting a simple leather cuff on her bicep, her face human, un-helmeted. “Excuse me,” Sera called, her voice too loud in the unnatural quiet.
The woman’s head snapped up. Her eyes, wide and dark, scanned Sera’s corseted form, then darted past her shoulders, up and down the street. Fear. Raw, undiluted fear.
“Please,” Sera tried again, softer. “I just need to find a bed. Something cheap.”
“Curfew,” the woman whispered, the word ripped from her throat. “You shouldn’t be out. They’re sweeping.” And then she was gone, melting into a shadowed alcove, her footsteps a fading echo.
Curfew. The word meant nothing and everything. Sera checked the holographic display on her wrist. The time, in fluid, alien numerals, glowed back: 2:17 A.M.
A deep, sub-audible hum began to vibrate in the metal beneath her feet. It travelled up through her bones, settling in her teeth. From the end of the narrow avenue, a figure turned the corner.
It moved with a smooth, relentless gait that was entirely wrong. Not a walk, but a glide, each step precise and inevitable. Unit 1167. The designation was etched on a polished chrome plate on its chest. The body was female, clad in a matte-black, skin-tight latex uniform that revealed every musculature, every breath. It was a blueprint of a human, stripped of nuance. The helmet was the worst part—a seamless, opaque shell, curved and featureless save for a single, vertical red slit where the eyes would be, emitting a faint, pulsing glow.
It stopped three feet from Sera. The hum was inside her skull now.
“Scanning,” a voice stated. It was neutral, genderless, and devoid of inflection, emanating from the helmet. A thin red beam licked out from the slit, painting Sera’s barcode. “Identity registered. Seraphina Bellweather. Classification: Doll. Tier: Base Attire.”
The red slit focused on her. “Curfew violation, Code 7-A. All unattended doll-class identifiers must be within registered domiciles or under direct citizen escort between 0200 and 0500 hours. Violation incurs a fine of fifteen hundred credits.”
Sera’s blood turned to ice. “Fifteen hundred? I… I didn’t know. No one told me.”
“Ignorance is not a cognizable defense within municipal compliance parameters,” the Unit stated. It extended a black-gloved hand. “Transfer the fine now.”
Her stomach dropped. “I only have five hundred.”
The red slit pulsed. “Insufficient funds. Compliance through alternative asset seizure is required. You will be escorted to the nearest Clothier for valuation and modification.”
“No,” Sera breathed, taking a step back. “No, please. I’ll go. I’ll find a place.”
“Resistance is non-compliance. Non-compliance permits subdued force.” Unit 1167’s hand shot out, faster than sight, closing around Sera’s upper arm. The grip was implacable, cold even through the latex. It felt like being held by a machine built of sinew and law. “You will come.”
There was no pulling away. It was like arguing with gravity. Unit 1167 propelled her forward, its stride unbroken. Sera stumbled alongside it, her bare feet slapping the cold pavement. They passed darkened windows behind which, Sera was certain, eyes watched, relieved it wasn’t them.
The Clothier’s bay was a recessed chrome cave, lit with a sterile, surgical white light. Unit 1167 shoved her wrist against the scanner.
“Unit 1167 enforcing municipal compliance. Subject has incurred a fine of fifteen hundred credits. Subject’s liquid assets: five hundred credits. Initiate asset valuation and modification for credit generation.”
The Clothier’s voice, that same smooth, androgynous tone, filled the bay. “Scanning subject’s extant attire. Base-level constriction garment. Valuation insufficient. Scanning for viable modification points.”
Twin beams of light passed over Sera’s trembling body. They lingered on her chest.
“Nipples are unpierced. High-value modification. Installation of programmable, vibrating magnetic piercings. Credit yield: one thousand credits. Removal cost: ten thousand credits. Acceptable?”
“Compliance is mandatory,” Unit 1167 intoned, answering for her.
“No, wait—” Sera’s protest was cut off as two restraints shot from the wall, clamping around her wrists, pulling her arms wide. A third band snaked around her waist, pinning her to the cold vertical panel. She was exposed, stretched, utterly helpless.
“Procedure commences. Disinfection.”
A cold, pressurized mist sprayed her chest. She gasped at the shock. Then, from apertures in the wall, two articulated mechanical arms unfolded. They ended not in tools, but in slender, needle-like probes, gleaming and cruel. Attached to each was a delicate ring of polished black metal.
“Please,” Sera whimpered, tears of terror finally spilling over. “Don’t.”
The Unit stood beside her, a statue of serene authority. The red slit watched, unblinking. “Modification is painless. The pleasure components will assist in your adjustment. Many dolls report significant… appreciation for their piercings.”
The arms moved with terrifying precision. One probe aligned with the peak of her left breast, centering on her pink, puckered nipple. There was a brief, sharp pinch—a sensation less of pain than of profound, invasive pressure—and then a cold, foreign presence nestled at the very root of her nerve-endings. She cried out. Before the sound faded, the second arm performed its task on her right nipple. Another pinch, another bloom of icy, internal shock.
The mechanical arms retracted. The black rings sat heavy and obvious on her nipples, a stark, permanent jewelry against her pale skin. A wire-thin filament connected each to a tiny, subcutaneous receiver.
“Testing neural and pleasure link,” the Clothier announced.
A low, resonant buzz originated deep within her chest. It wasn’t on her skin; it was inside the flesh itself, a vibration that traveled straight into her cores. Her nipples hardened instantly, painfully, into tight, sensitive buds against the cool metal rings. A jolt, electric and warm, arced directly from her pierced nipples to her clit. She gasped, not in pain, but in startled, unwelcome arousal.
“Link successful. Credit transferred.”
The restraints released her. Sera slumped forward, her breasts feeling heavy, different, owned by the insistent hum. She looked down. The piercings were there. Undeniable. A thousand credits now glowed on her wrist display, alongside the five hundred from Velvet. The fine of fifteen hundred was automatically deducted. Her balance returned to zero.
She was free of the fine. And now ten thousand credits in debt to her own body.
“Violation cleared,” Unit 1167 stated. “Compliance is achieved. You may proceed to a domicile.” It turned and glided away, its hum fading into the unnerving quiet of the curfew-held streets.
Alone in the bay, Sera’s fingers crept up to trace the rings. They were cool. Solid. As she touched one, a fresh, weaker pulse of vibration answered, a teasing echo that made her breath hitch. Shame flooded her, hot and nauseating. She had been marked, again. Made more of a doll.
But under the shame, a darker, slicker truth was gathering. The vibration was a constant, low-level thrum, a reminder that lived in her flesh. It felt… not good, but significant. It made her aware of her breasts in a way she never had been, the sensitivity dialed to a pitch that was somehow agonizing and tantalizing. With every slight movement, the rings shifted, sending little sparks through her.
She found a recessed doorway, sliding down into its shadows, hidden from the empty street. Her heart hammered. She was exhausted, terrified, and zeroed out. But the piercings hummed. She looked at her wrists, bare of credits, bound by the corset and now this.
Hesitantly, she pinched a black ring between her thumb and forefinger and gave it a sharp tug.
A bolt of pure, white-hot sensation ripped through her. It was pain, but pain transfigured into blinding stimulus, straight down her spine to pool in a sudden, soaking heat between her legs. A choked gasp escaped her. She did it again, to the other one. Another bolt. Her cunt clenched on nothing, aching, empty, and wet.
“Oh, god,” she whispered to the uncaring dark. This was the adjustment. This was the appreciation the Unit had mentioned. Her body was being taught to find its degradation exquisite.
Trembling, she slipped a hand down, under the tight lower edge of the corset. Her folds were slick, swollen. She found her clit, throbbing in time with the subterranean buzz in her nipples. As she circled it, she tugged on a piercing again, not hard, but enough.
The connection was instantaneous and devastating. Pleasure detonated, not from her fingers alone, but from the twin points of violation on her chest, converging in a seismic rush between her hips. She stuffed her other hand against her mouth to mute the shuddering cry as her back arched off the cold door. The orgasm was brutal, short, and utterly shaming. It ripped through her, leaving her twitching and gasping, the after-shocks mingling with the ceaseless, low hum of the piercings.
She lay there, spent, tears cooling on her cheeks. The vibration continued. A reward. A tag. A condemnation.
Slowly, she pulled herself upright. The city’s silence felt heavier now, a judgment. She had no credits, no place to go, and a new, hungry debt written in metal on her skin. The five hundred from Velvet was gone, spent to pay for the very thing that now buzzed against her will.
There was only one person who understood the currency of shame. Only one address that mattered.
She walked, the gentle, persistent vibration in her chest a compass point pulling her forward. She didn’t go to find a bed. She went to the opalescent spire. She pressed her wrist, now with its updated, pierced profile, against Velvet’s sensor.
The door spiraled open into warmth and light. Velvet stood in the center of the room, holding a glass of something dark. She had been waiting.
Her eyes dropped to Sera’s chest, to the obvious, gleaming rings. A slow, knowing smile touched her lips, devoid of mockery, filled with dark kinship.
“Seems you've had a run in with curfew enforcement.” Velvet said, her voice a low caress. “Come in, little moth. You can sleep here tonight... We'll talk about how you can repay me, in the morning.”
