Chapter 1: Introduction
With a tired sigh, Richard hung up his suit. The party had been utterly predictable and unfulfilling as any other event chock full of pompous colleagues and clients. The elegant hotel suite beckoned, a bastion of privacy and rest. He needed something to stir his soul in this monotonous life, even if it meant the illusion of a charming stranger.
At the party, he'd spotted Lilian across the crowded room. Petite and mischievous, she exuded an enigmatic charm—tantalizing, despite her seemingly mismatched attire.
Her green eyes and light green-colored hair were nothing short of captivating. The more he observed her, the more intrigued he became.
A few hours later, Lilian had found herself in Richard's hotel suite. They settled on the plush sofa, sipping champagne under the softly lit room. Her tiny wings shimmered in the subtle illumination, adding to her aura of mystery.
"Why do you always seem so out of place here, Lilian?" Richard asked, attempting to keep his tone casual.
He gazed at her, curiosity piqued, as he placed the champagne flute on the coffee table.
"Oh, you know," she replied, batting her eyes coyly. "My work tends to attract peculiar sorts." Lilian fidgeted with her dress, seemingly dismissive but unable to conceal her excitement. "Besides, I prefer a more colourful life than what can be found at these dull gatherings."
Richard chuckled softly, raising his eyebrows slightly. "How so?
Your job must be fascinating if it involves all these quirks that draw such interesting characters," mused Richard, leaning in attentively.
"Wouldn't you like to know?" A shameless glint sparkled in her eyes. "But I have a question for you," she asked with a smirk. "You seem so successful, yet you look so empty inside. Are you truly content with your life? With this success that surrounds us now?"
Richard frowned, pensive for a moment. "Well," he admitted, "There's always been a void in my life.
Success can be fulfilling in many ways, but it doesn't necessarily lead to the spark that keeps us alive, does it?"
Lilian nodded in agreement as if she understood his inner longings. "Indeed. Deep down, we all crave something beyond our daily existence."
As they continued their low-toned conversation, Lilian seemed to possess an ethereal understanding of his desire for something more. Richard was now more captivated than ever.
He mustered the courage to ask, "What exactly does your work involve?
