Chapter 1: Introduction
The hum of the mall was inescapable. Halee had to dodge a few shopping carts and wade through crowds of people, making her way through a labyrinth of candy-colored aisles. She was surrounded by an intoxicating rainbow of glossy plastic figurines, and plush stuffed animals lined all around her. If she could, she would have taken them all home, cuddling each one to her chest and whispering sweet tales of dreams into their soft, teddy bear ears.
As she turned the corner, she was greeted by a sight that made her catch her breath.
A pair of emerald-green eyes stared back at her, perched on top of a mischievous grin and a vibrant yellow hyena plushie. She felt a pull, like something she couldn't quite explain, and a shiver of excitement traced her spine.
Halee had always loved hyenas, their cunning and their energy, the way they embraced their unique and unpopular beauty.
She ran her fingers gently over the smooth stuffed fur and inspected the toy in her hands. It bigger than she expected, the size of a large dog, but the shimmering green eyes seemed larger than life against the amber glow of the store's lighting.
"You definitely have a a unique flair about you," Halee whispered, strolling down the aisle, gently swinging Dandy by his neck as she looked for the cashier.
It was not the conventional purchase paired with an unusual personality like hers.
