Chapter 1: Chapter 1
I'm sitting here in the library, staring at the books on the shelves, wishing I could borrow one and read it cover to cover is what I said to myself. It's true, I've always loved books. They're my escape, my solace when everything around me is falling apart.Books are my friends, my confidants, my everything. I'd never be without them. Books are life.
But I've never loved them. That's what I said to myself. I've never loved the words on the page, the stories they tell. I've never loved the fact that I can lose myself in them, that they transport me to another world. That's what I said to myself.
But what am I supposed to do now? I can't stay in this library all day. I have real life" to attend to. My parents are going to be wondering where I am and what I'm doing this weekend, and I need to see them before they leave for their summer vacation. So that means I have to leave the library.I'll just borrow one from the stacks and check it out, I thought as I headed over to the bookshelf. But then I heard someone behind me and turned around to see a group of guys I didn't know. One of them was leaning against the wall, arms crossed, watching me as I browsed through the books. He had dark hair and a scruffy beard, and he looked like he could play a good bad guy in a mafia movie, it was Finley the guy I had a big gay crush on staring at me with his gang of other jocks messing around he seemed interested in meand I wondered why. You want to borrow my book? I asked the guy who was pretending to read while glancing up at me every so often. His name was Finley and he was one of the most handsome guys I had ever seen.
