A gay romance between Mario and Bowser.

Chapter 1: Introduction

Mario brushed away beads of sweat from his brow, his breaths heavy and uneven as Luigi stood beside him. His older brother's face echoed the exhaustion Mario felt after taking down the once terrifying Bowser. But the air in the colossal castle felt lighter than ever before, despite the layers of dust and debris that coated the place.

As Mario's heart rate began returning to normal, he looked at Bowser's surprisingly deflated form, a shell of the monster he had been just moments earlier. A pang of sympathy rippled through him.

Mario had been locked in many battles with the Koopa King over the years, and the disdain he held for the menacing villain was well earned. But now, Mario's gaze fell upon a being whose eyes—although still wild with a glint of stubbornness—revealed an undeniable vulnerability.

Mario whispered, "Bowser, why are you like this? You're always trying to kidnap the princess and take over the Mushroom Kingdom.

What's up with that?"

Bowser, still sprawled on the floor, let out a sigh that seemed to echo through the vast chamber. His tail twitched slightly, stirring up a small cloud of dust. "It's... it's complicated, Mario."

Luigi leaned in, his eyes wide with curiosity. "Complicated? Since when is causing chaos and mayhem 'complicated'?"

Mario shot Luigi a look, a silent plea for him to cool it. Luigi shrugged and stepped back, giving Mario space to continue.

Mario turned his attention back to Bowser. "You know what, big guy?

I think it's time we had a little chat," Mario said, extending a hand towards Bowser. The gesture was met with a mixture of surprise and suspicion from both Bowser and Luigi.

Bowser eyed Mario's hand warily, his massive frame tensing as if ready to spring into action at any moment. "What kind of chat?" he growled, his voice like distant thunder.

Mario chuckled, a warm and reassuring sound that seemed to put Bowser slightly at ease. "The kind where we get to the bottom of all this.

Why you're always causing trouble, what you really want, and maybe, just maybe, we can find a way to make things right," Mario said, his voice steady and calm.

Bowser's eyes narrowed, suspicion etched deep into his features. "And why would I trust you, Mario? You've thwarted my plans more times than I can count."

Mario smiled, a genuine, disarming smile that had melted the hearts of many a princess in the Mushroom Kingdom. "Because, Bowser, I've never given you a reason not to.

And I think it's time we tried something different," Mario replied, his hand still outstretched. The castle fell silent, the weight of Mario's words hanging heavy in the air. Luigi shifted uncomfortably, casting anxious glances between Mario and Bowser, his fingers fidgeting with the hem of his shirt.

Bowser's gaze lingered on Mario's hand before slowly shifting upwards to meet Mario's eyes. For a moment, the castle seemed to hold its breath, the only sound the distant echo of a dying fire crackling in the hearth.

Then, slowly, Bowser pushed himself onto his feet, his massive frame creaking like an ancient oak tree. He eyed Mario's outstretched hand, then, in a move that caught both Mario and Luigi off guard, he reached out and grabbed it.

But instead of pulling Mario into a headlock or crushing his hand, Bowser simply shook it, his grip surprisingly gentle. "Alright, Mario," he rumbled, his voice still gruff but lacking its usual malice. "Let's talk."

Luigi blinked, clearly taken aback by the sudden change in Bowser's demeanor.

"Uh, well, that's... that's great, I guess," he stammered, scratching the back of his head. "So, where do we start?"

Mario grinned, giving Luigi a reassuring pat on the shoulder. "Why don't we start with something simple? Like, why you've got such a hard-on for kidnapping Princess Peach," Mario said, turning his attention back to Bowser.

Bowser let out a huff, his cheeks flushing a shade greener. "It's not like that, okay?" he grumbled, looking away.

Mario raised an eyebrow.

"Oh, really? Because from where I'm standing, it sure looks like that's exactly what it's like. You've been after her for years, Bowser. What gives?"

Bowser crossed his massive arms, his expression sullen. "It's... it's not about her. Not really."

Luigi tilted his head, confusion written all over his face. "Then what's it about, Bowser? I mean, you've got the whole 'take over the world' thing going on, but there must be more to it than that."

Bowser hesitated, his gaze flickering between Mario and Luigi.

He seemed to be wrestling with something, his brow furrowed in thought. Mario could almost see the gears turning in the Koopa King's head, trying to come to terms with the fact that he was about to open up to his arch-nemesis.

Finally, Bowser let out a sigh, his shoulders slumping slightly. "It's... it's about loneliness, okay?" he admitted, his voice barely above a whisper.

Mario and Luigi exchanged a surprised glance. That was not the answer they had been expecting. They both turned their attention back to Bowser, waiting for him to continue.
