Eliza Banes came into view of Mr Jones' house just after dark. How do you do, miss Banes?" Mr Jones said as he opened the door. "I hope you are well today." "Well enough, thank you, sir," Eliza replied as she curtseyed gracefully. " I am looking for a girl for my best friend,john"Eliza paused before adding: John has no money but we can make an arrangement. "Oh? And who is this friend of yours, miss Banes?" "You know who I mean, sir." "Indeed I do, my dear. And what do I think of this arrangement? Well, I think it is wonderful. Eliza left him at the door and started walking down the street, happy. She called john "i found you a girl" john said to her "I am not interested" and hung up. But inside he felt different. Inside he felt differently. What kind of woman would go with me? A poor widow perhaps or even worse... a mother with daughters of her own who need looking after'
The thoughts of what kind of woman would go with him made his heart thump heavily in his chest. He stopped outside a pub and ordered a drink.When he looked around there were only two other customers besides himself so perhaps it wasn't too busy inside. The bartender gave him some change and sent him on his way. "Good night, sir," the bartender said as he poured the drink into a glass and sent it on its way. "Good night," John replied as he paid for his drink and left the pub.
Suddenly as he was walking down the street he saw a strange site. A site that changed his life forever.
