Chapter 3: Rising Action
The crisp mountain air nipped at Aaron's skin as he stepped out onto the wooden deck, the scent of pine and damp earth filling his nostrils. The hot tub was a gleaming oasis of blue, its surface shimmering under the moonlight. The stars above twinkled like diamonds scattered across a velvet canvas, and the distant glow of the city lights flickered like fireflies in the night.
Hank stood by the hot tub, his hands resting on the curved edge. His broad shoulders were silhouetted against the starlit sky, the red hair on his head a dark halo. He turned as Aaron approached, his green eyes reflecting the moonlight.
"The water's perfect," he said, his voice a low rumble. "Warm enough to melt away the tension, but not so hot you can't feel your toes."
Aaron nodded, a smirk playing at the corner of his mouth. "Sounds like just what the doctor ordered." He paused, then added, "But I'm not sure I have a swimsuit."
Hank's gaze swept over Aaron's body, lingering on the defined muscles of his chest and arms. "You don't need one," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "I don't have one either." Hank's voice was casual, but there was an undercurrent of tension that Aaron couldn't quite place. He hesitated for a moment, then shrugged, a slow, deliberate movement that made the most of his muscular frame.
"Well, I guess we'll just have to make do without," he said, his voice a low drawl. He reached for the towel around his waist, his fingers lingering on the terrycloth before he let it drop to the deck with a soft thud.
Hank's eyes widened, a quick flash of surprise that was gone almost as soon as it appeared. He cleared his throat, his gaze flicking down to Aaron's groin, then quickly away.
"I... I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable," he stammered, his cheeks flushing a deep red. "I just thought... well, it's been a long time since we've seen each other like this." He gestured vaguely at Aaron's naked body, his hands trembling slightly.
Aaron chuckled, a low rumble that seemed to ease the tension in the air. "It's okay, Hank," he said, his voice gentle. "I'm not uncomfortable." He took a step closer, his eyes locked onto Hank's. "In fact, I'm feeling pretty good right now."
Hank's breath hitched, his chest rising and falling rapidly.
Aaron could see the pulse at the base of his neck, throbbing in time with his own heartbeat. He reached out, his hand hovering for a moment before he placed it on Hank's chest, feeling the solid muscle beneath his fingertips.
"You've got nothing to be nervous about," Aaron murmured, his voice barely above a whisper. "We're just two old friends catching up. Naked."
Hank let out a shaky laugh, his shoulders relaxing slightly. "Yeah, just two old friends," he echoed, his voice steadier now. "Catching up."
Aaron gave him a small smile, then stepped into the hot tub, the warm water enveloping him like a soft embrace.
He sank down until his shoulders were submerged, the heat relaxing his muscles and easing the tension in his body. He let out a soft sigh, his eyes fluttering closed as he leaned back against the edge of the tub.
Hank hesitated for a moment before following suit, stepping into the hot tub and lowering himself into the water. He sat down opposite Aaron, their knees brushing briefly before he pulled back slightly, leaving a small gap between them.
The water was warm and inviting, the bubbles from the jets tickling their skin as they rose to the surface. Aaron opened his eyes, his gaze meeting Hank's across the small space.
The Irishman's cheeks were flushed, his green eyes bright in the dim light. Aaron could see the pulse at the base of his neck, still throbbing rapidly.
"So," Aaron said, breaking the silence. "What have you been up to all these years, besides lifting weights and eating protein?"
Hank chuckled, a low rumble that seemed to vibrate through the water. "Well, I've been working as a personal trainer at the university gym. It's... satisfying, you know? Helping people achieve their goals."
Aaron nodded, impressed. "That's great, Hank. I always knew you had a way with people.
You've got that... charisma." Aaron's voice was soft, his eyes reflecting the moonlight as he looked at Hank. The Irishman's cheeks flushed again, but this time, it seemed more from the compliment than the situation.
"Thanks," Hank murmured, his gaze flicking away for a moment before returning to Aaron's face. "It's not much, but it's something. Keeps me busy."
Aaron leaned forward slightly, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. "And what about the rest of your life? Any... significant others?"
Hank's eyes widened slightly, and he shook his head. "No, nothing serious. Just... casual stuff.
No one... special." He hesitated, then added, "What about you? Anyone in your life?"
Aaron leaned back against the edge of the hot tub, his eyes never leaving Hank's face. "Not really," he admitted. "I've been so focused on my studies and wrestling that I haven't had much time for... relationships."
Hank nodded, his gaze flicking to Aaron's lips for a brief moment before returning to his eyes. "I remember how dedicated you were. Always pushing yourself, always striving for more."
Aaron smirked. "Well, some things never change." He paused, then asked, "So, what made you invite me up here tonight, Hank?
Just to catch up on old times?" Aaron's voice was casual, but there was a hint of curiosity in his eyes.
Hank shifted in the hot tub, the water sloshing softly around him. He looked away for a moment, his gaze drifting to the distant peaks that loomed over the mountain. When he turned back to Aaron, his expression was serious.
"Honestly? I wanted to see you again. It's been too long since we last saw each other." He paused, then added, "And I wanted to see if... if there was still something between us."
Aaron raised an eyebrow, a small smile playing at the corner of his mouth.
"Something between us, huh?" he echoed, his voice a low drawl. "Like... old friends catching up?"
Hank's gaze flicked down to Aaron's chest, then back up to meet his eyes. "Like... how we've both changed," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "And how we've stayed the same."
Aaron chuckled, a low rumble that seemed to vibrate through the water. "Well, I guess that's inevitable, isn't it? Time marches on, and all that." He leaned forward slightly, his eyes scanning Hank's body. "But I must say, you've certainly filled out since our wrestling days."
Hank's cheeks flushed at the compliment, but he didn't look away. Instead, he mirrored Aaron's movement, leaning forward to get a better look at his old friend. "You too," he said, his voice steady. "You were always in great shape, but now...
Aaron, feeling the heat of the hot tub and the weight of Hank's gaze, decided to take the initiative. He leaned back, resting his arms on the edge of the tub, and let his legs float up to the surface. "You know, it's been a while since we've had a proper comparison match," he said, a playful smirk on his lips.
Hank raised an eyebrow, a slow smile spreading across his face. "Is that a challenge, Aaron?"
Aaron chuckled, "Maybe it is. Or maybe it's just two old friends reminiscing about the good old days."
Hank laughed, a deep, rumbling sound that seemed to echo through the water. "Alright then, let's see who's improved the most." He mirrored Aaron's position, his broad chest rising above the water as he leaned back.
Aaron started first, flexing his arms, the muscles definition clear even in the dim light. "Still got the wrestling build, I see," he said, his voice casual.
Hank watched, his gaze appreciative. "You've filled out more, though. More... solid." He flexed his own arms, the muscles bulging. "I've got more power now. Powerlifting will do that to you."
Aaron nodded, his eyes never leaving Hank's body. "I can see that. You're like a tank now." He paused, then added, "But I bet I can still take you down." "You're welcome to try," he said, his voice a dare.
Aaron smirked, then pushed off from the edge of the hot tub, moving towards Hank with a predatory grace. Hank watched him approach, his eyes never leaving Aaron's face. As Aaron reached him, he lunged, trying to grab Hank's arm.
But Hank was ready.
He anticipated Aaron's move and shifted his weight, avoiding the grab. Aaron's hands closed on empty air, and he had to quickly adjust his balance to keep from falling into Hank's lap.
Aaron laughed, a sound that was part surprise, part admiration. "You're quicker than I remember," he said, his voice a low drawl.
Hank grinned, his eyes gleaming in the moonlight. "I've had a lot of practice," he said. "Powerlifting teaches you to anticipate your opponent's moves."
Aaron nodded, a slow smile spreading across his face.
"Well played, Hank," he said, his voice a low rumble. "But you know what they say, 'All's fair in love and war.'"
Hank raised an eyebrow, a playful smirk on his lips. "Is that what this is, Aaron? Love or war?"
Aaron chuckled, a sound that seemed to vibrate through the water. "Maybe a little of both," he said, his voice casual. He leaned back against the edge of the hot tub, his eyes never leaving Hank's face. "But I must admit, I'm enjoying this... reunion." He paused, then added, "And I must say, you look... well, you look good, Hank." Instead, he mirrored Aaron's position, leaning back against the edge of the hot tub and letting his legs float up to the surface. "You're not so bad yourself," he said, his voice steady. "Still got that...
Aaron smirked, his eyes scanning Hank's body once more. "And you've got that... power," he said, his voice a low drawl.
"I can see it in your arms, your chest... even your legs." His gaze lingered on Hank's thighs for a moment before flicking back up to his face.
Hank's cheeks flushed at the compliment, but he held Aaron's gaze. "You've always had an eye for detail," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "I remember that about you."
Aaron chuckled, a soft sound that seemed to vibrate through the water. "It's a useful skill in wrestling," he said.
"Being able to read your opponent's body language, anticipate their moves. It's not just about strength or speed; it's about understanding." Aaron's voice was casual, but there was a hint of intensity in his eyes as he looked at Hank.
Hank nodded, his gaze flicking down to Aaron's chest before returning to his face. "I've always admired your ability to read people," he said. "It's one of the things that made you such a formidable wrestler."
Aaron smirked, his eyes never leaving Hank's face. "And what about you? What made you such a formidable powerlifter?"
Hank hesitated for a moment before answering.
