Chapter 5: My Turn to Serve

The grey light of a hungover Sunday morning seeped around the edges of the blackout blinds in Swati and Vishal’s bedroom. It found the three of us in a ruined pile on their king-sized bed, a landscape of tangled limbs and damp sheets. The air was thick with the night’s exhalations: sex, sweat, and the distant, sour note of stale whiskey from the glass still on the nightstand.

I woke first, the unfamiliar pressure of a body on either side pulling me from a sleep that had been more like a coma. My body was a catalogue of aches. The deep, bruised tenderness in my ass was a constant bass note. The softer ache between my legs was a fuller, satisfied throb. My lips were swollen. My scalp tingled where hands had fisted my hair. I was sore in places I hadn’t known could be sore.

I was also, inexplicably, ravenous.

Vishal was on my left, flat on his back, one arm thrown over his eyes. His chest rose and fell in a deep, steady rhythm. Swati was curled into my right side, her forehead pressed against my shoulder, her breath warm on my skin. In sleep, the sharp, calculating lines of her face had softened. She looked younger. She looked like my didi again. The dissonance was a small, quiet shock.

I lay perfectly still, afraid to break the spell. The silence was a palpable thing, layered over the memory of the noises that had filled it hours before—the shouts, the wet slaps, the choked pleas. Here, in the mundane wash of morning, it was all impossible. It felt like a vivid, collective dream from which we would all awaken, embarrassed and silent.

Swati’s breathing hitched. She stirred, nuzzling against my shoulder before her eyes fluttered open. For a second, there was only the blank confusion of waking. Then her gaze focused on my face, inches from hers. I watched the realization travel through her: the location, the positioning, the nakedness, the memories. Her eyes didn’t widen in horror. They just deepened, becoming opaque, unreadable pools. She didn’t pull away.

“Morning,” she whispered, her voice gravelly with sleep.

“Morning,” I whispered back.

We stayed like that, watching each other. The challenge from last night was gone. What remained was a terrifying, intimate scrutiny. She reached up and brushed a strand of hair from my cheek. The gesture was so normal, so sisterly, it made my throat tighten.

“You’re here,” she said, not quite a question.

“You said to stay.”

“I did.” Her thumb traced the line of my jaw. “How do you feel?”

I considered the question. “Sore. Everywhere. Hungry.”

A faint smile touched her lips. “Good. The soreness means it was real. The hunger means you’re alive.” Her hand slipped down, over my collarbone, coming to rest just above my breast. Her palm was warm. “He marked you here,” she murmured, her fingers tracing a faint bruise. “I watched him do it. He was sucking on you while he was still inside me. I felt every pull of his mouth through his body.”

A flush of heat rolled through me, tightening my nipples. The memory was a physical echo. “I remember.”

“Do you?” Her eyes searched mine. “Do you remember what you did? What you took?”

“Yes.”

“Tell me.”

It was a test. A claiming of the narrative. “I tasted you. I made you come with my mouth. Then I rode him. I made him watch you while I did it.”

She nodded slowly, satisfaction glimmering in her eyes. “You did. You switched the script. Again.” Her gaze flicked to the sleeping Vishal. “He won’t know what to do with that. He’s used to controlling the narrative. You’ve become an unpredictable variable.”

“Is that bad?”

“It’s dangerous,” she said, but she sounded exhilarated. “For all of us.”

Vishal groaned then, a low, rough sound. He shifted, his arm dropping from his face. He blinked against the light, his eyes hazy and unfocused before landing on us. On me, nestled between him and his wife. A slow, lazy smile spread across his stubbled face. It was the charming, disarming one, but it was softer around the edges, blurred by sleep and satiation.

“Well,” he rumbled, his voice like stones rubbing together. “This is a sight I could get used to.”

He turned onto his side, facing us, propping his head on his hand. His free hand landed on my hip, his fingers spanning the bone. His touch was possessive, but not demanding. A simple statement of fact. I was under his hand.

“Sleep okay?” he asked, his gaze traveling from my face to Swati’s.

“Well enough,” Swati said. “She’s hungry.”

“I’m not surprised,” he said, his thumb stroking my hip. “You burned a lot of calories, beti. You put on a fucking Olympic performance.”

The casual vulgarity, the easy endearment in the morning light, sent a jolt through me. It normalized the obscene. It made me feel, for a fleeting second, like this was just what families did.

“I’ll make breakfast,” Swati said, and she shifted, starting to sit up.

Vishal’s hand on my hip tightened, holding me in place. His other hand shot out, wrapping around Swati’s wrist. “Not yet.”

She paused, looking at him. “Vishal, it’s late. We need to—”

“We need to solidify,” he interrupted, his voice losing its sleepy softness, gaining its strategic edge. “Last night was a series of explosions. Necessary. Spectacular. But now there’s debris. There’s a new shape to things. We can’t just get up and make pancakes like it’s any other Sunday. The energy needs a channel. A deliberate one.”

He sat up, the sheet pooling around his waist. The morning light carved the muscles of his chest and shoulders. He looked like a general surveying a battlefield. “We’ve established punishment. We’ve established rebellion and reward. We’ve crossed every line we had. Now we need to build something in the space where those lines used to be. Or it collapses into guilt and awkwardness, and we all spend the next twenty years at tense family dinners trying not to remember how I tore your ass open on my office desk, Nupur, or how you came with your tongue buried in your sister’s cunt.”

The crude recap was like a splash of cold water. It stripped away any lingering dreaminess. This was real. This was our reality.

“So what’s the play, CEO?” Swati asked, settling back against the headboard. Her tone was wry, but her body was attentive.

Vishal looked at me. “It’s her turn.”

“My turn for what?”

“To design the scene,” he said simply. “No revenge. No initiatory rite. Just pleasure. Your pleasure. You tell us what you want. You use us.”

The offer was staggering. It felt like another, more sophisticated trap. “My pleasure?”

“Yeah. You called the shot last night on the couch. It worked. It was hot as hell. So this morning, you’re the director. We’re your actors. Your toys.” He leaned closer, his eyes intense. “What does Nupur, after having her world thoroughly fucked sideways, actually like? What’s the fantasy you’ve been too afraid to voice, even to yourself?”

My mind raced, then went blank. My sexual imagination had been, until seventy-two hours ago, a fairly standard catalogue. This… this had rewritten everything. How could I have a fantasy that wasn’t now dwarfed by the reality of what we’d already done?

Swati’s hand found mine under the sheet, lacing our fingers together. “Don’t think in grand gestures,” she said softly, as if reading my panic. “Think in sensations. Think in small, wicked wants. Do you want to be kissed somewhere no one’s kissed you? Do you want to watch us do something specific? Do you want to be tied up with silk scarves again, but this time just to feel the restriction, not the punishment? There’s no wrong answer. This is your sandbox.”

I closed my eyes. I let the aches in my body speak. The emptiness I’d felt last night was gone, replaced by a heavy, satiated fullness. But there was a different hunger. A curiosity.

“I want…” I began, my voice tentative. “I want to be in the middle. I don’t want to choose. I want… to be touched by both of you. At the same time. Everywhere. I want to be the absolute focus. Not a participant in your game, but the… the center of it. I want to be worshipped and used until I can’t tell the difference.”

I opened my eyes. Vishal was smiling, a real, appreciative smile. Swati’s expression had softened into something akin to pride.

“That,” Vishal said, “is a fucking excellent directive. Okay. Middle it is.”

He moved with a purpose that banished the last of the morning lethargy. He swung his legs out of bed. “Swati, the good lube. The silicone one. And the vibrator. The small, rumbly one.”

Swati slid from the bed, naked and unselfconscious, and padded to their walk-in closet. She returned with a small bottle and a sleek, black device.

Meanwhile, Vishal was arranging the pillows. He built a large, firm mound in the very center of the bed. “Come here,” he said to me, his voice gentle but not soft. “On your back. Head here, on the pillows. I want you to see everything.”

I moved into position, lying back. The pillows elevated my head and shoulders perfectly. I felt exposed, presented. My heart began a steady, anxious drumroll.

Vishal knelt at the foot of the bed, between my legs. Swati came to the side, kneeling by my hip. They looked at each other over my body, a silent communication passing between them. It was no longer a conspiracy against me. It was a collaboration for me.

“Hands above your head,” Vishal said. “Hold the headboard.”

I reached up, gripping the cool, wooden slats of the headboard. It was an offering, a surrender to their care.

Swati bent her head first. She started with my mouth. Her kiss was deep, exploratory, but languid. There was no hurry. Her tongue mapped mine, her lips suckling gently at my lower one. Her hand came up to cradle my jaw. It was tender, devastatingly so.

As she kissed me, Vishal began with my feet. His hands were warm and strong. He massaged the arch of one foot, his thumbs pressing into the tension there, then trailed his fingers slowly up my calf, over my knee, along my inner thigh. His touch was deliberate, sensual, not immediately sexual. He was awakening the skin.

Swati broke the kiss, trailing her lips down my neck, to my collarbone. She took her time, nipping, licking, sucking a small, dark mark just above my breast. At the same time, Vishal’s mouth reached my inner thigh. He didn’t go straight for my core. He placed open-mouthed kisses on the tender skin there, his stubble scratching deliciously. His breath was hot.

I moaned, my grip tightening on the headboard. The dual sensation was overwhelming in its gentleness. To be attended to, with such focused, simultaneous attention, was a luxury I’d never conceived of. It felt like being lavished, like being precious.

Swati’s mouth closed over my nipple. She sucked it deeply into the heat of her mouth, her tongue flicking the hardened tip. A sharp, bright bolt of pleasure shot straight to my clit. I arched off the bed.

As she worked one breast, her hand came up to knead and pinch the other. Vishal, meanwhile, had finally reached my pussy. But he didn’t enter me. He used his thumbs to part my folds, and then he exhaled, a long, warm stream of air over my slick, exposed flesh. I jerked, a gasp tearing from my throat.

“So pretty,” he murmured, his voice a low vibration I felt between my legs. “All swollen and wet for us. And look,” he said, presumably to Swati, “she’s still a little pink here from last night. From me.”

Swati released my nipple with a wet pop. “Let me see.” She shifted, looking down my body. Her fingers joined his, gently exploring. “She is. Tender. We’ll be gentle with this hole for a little while.” Her eyes met mine, dark and possessive. “We have others to play with.”

Vishal’s tongue touched me then. Not a lick, but a flat, broad press against my entire vulva. He moaned, the sound vibrating through me. “Fuck, you taste good. Like us.”

He began to eat me with a shocking, dedicated thoroughness. His tongue was a relentless, clever instrument. He lapped at my juices, circled my clit with firm pressure, then dipped shallowly into my entrance, tasting himself from the night before. It was an act of reclaiming, of intimate cannibalism.

While he focused below, Swati moved back to my mouth, kissing me deeply, letting me taste the faint salt of my own skin on her lips. Her hand drifted down from my breast, over my stomach, to where Vishal’s face was buried between my legs. She didn’t push him away. She placed her hand on the back of his head, her fingers tangling in his hair, not guiding, but participating. Owning his act of servicing me.

“Is he making you feel good, baby?” she whispered against my mouth. “Is my husband’s tongue making your little cunt sing?”

I could only nod frantically, my hips beginning to lift off the bed to meet Vishal’s mouth. He pinned my hips down with his strong forearms, holding me in place for his feast. The loss of control, the absolute surrender to sensation, was blissful.

“She’s getting close,” Vishal said, pulling back for a moment, his chin glistening. “But not yet. We’re just getting started.”

He grabbed the bottle of lube. He coated his fingers generously. Swati understood. She shifted her position, moving to kneel by my shoulder, facing my feet. She leaned down and took my nipple back into her mouth, her hand continuing to fondle my other breast.

Vishal’s wet fingers found my back entrance. The touch was cool at first, then warming quickly. He pressed one finger against the pucker, still loose and sore from yesterday’s brutal initiation. This time, there was no resistance. The muscle yielded easily, remembering him. He slid his finger in to the knuckle with a smooth, oiled glide.

The fullness was immediate, a deep, internal pressure that made me cry out. It didn’t hurt. It was a rich, stretching sensation that resonated through my entire pelvic floor. My cunt clenched around nothing, desperately empty.

“That’s it,” Vishal cooed. “Take it. Just my finger this time. Just to remind you it’s mine.”

He began to move it, a slow in-and-out that was maddeningly deliberate. Swati, sensing the shift in focus, released my breast. She picked up the sleek black vibrator. She clicked it on. A low, powerful hum filled the room, a promise of vibration.

She didn’t put it on me. She held it against Vishal’s wrist, the one attached to the finger inside my ass. The vibrations traveled up his arm, through his finger, and into the very core of me. It was an indirect, devastating stimulation. The vibrations blurred the lines between my ass and my cunt, creating a buzzing, pervasive pleasure that had me mewling.

“Oh god,” I sobbed. “What is that? That’s… I can’t…”

“You can,” Swati said, her voice a hypnotic murmur. She moved the vibrator, holding it now against the base of Vishal’s finger, where it disappeared into my body. The sensation intensified. “You can take so much more than you think.”

Vishal added a second finger. The stretch was profound, but the slick lube and the numbing, blissful vibrations made it a sinuous, welcome invasion. He scissored them gently, opening me. My body was yielding, pliant, a vessel being meticulously prepared.

“Now,” Vishal said, his voice strained. He was still fully hard, his cock jutting out, ignored. “Now for the main event.”

He withdrew his fingers. The emptiness was a gasp. Swati turned off the vibrator. The sudden silence was heavy with anticipation.

“Turn over,” Vishal instructed. “On your hands and knees. In the middle.”

I moved clumsily, my body humming with unmet need. I got onto all fours. Swati positioned herself in front of me, on her knees. She was eye-level with my face.

“You’re going to watch me,” she said, her hands framing my face. “You’re going to watch my eyes while he fills your ass again. And you’re going to suck on my t

“You’re going to watch my eyes while he fills your ass again. And you’re going to suck on my tits.”

Her command was absolute, a wire of steel wrapped in velvet. It brooked no argument, only compliance. I nodded, my mouth already watering, my body thrumming with a desperate, shameful need. The previous night’s violation in his office was a live wire in my memory—the searing tear, the degrading fullness, the shocking sense of completion. This would be different. This would be chosen. Given.

Swati shifted closer, her breasts swaying level with my mouth. They were fuller than mine, the nipples a darker brown, hardened into tight buds. I leaned forward and took one into my mouth, my tongue flattening against the areola before circling the peak. She tasted of sleep and salt and a faint, clean fragrance of lavender soap. A shudder went through her. Her hand came to the back of my head, not pushing, just holding me there. Anchoring me.

Behind me, Vishal moved. I heard the wet sound of more lube, the slick squelch as he coated himself. The memory of that thickness, that brutal stretch, made my cunt weep. I sucked harder on Swati, a soft moan vibrating against her skin.

“Look at me, Nupur,” Swati breathed.

I dragged my eyes up. Her gaze was locked on mine. It wasn’t tender. It was fiercely possessive, incandescent with a kind of shared complicity. She was showing me her control, and in doing so, was giving me a part of it. We were in this together, she and I, against him, for him, because of him. The complexity of it was a knot in my stomach.

Then Vishal pushed.

The blunt, immense pressure against my back entrance was unmistakable. My body clenched instinctively, a primal refusal. I broke from Swati’s breast with a gasp, my forehead dropping against her chest.

“Shhh,” Vishal soothed, his voice right behind my ear, his breath hot. “You’re open. You’re ready. You took my fingers. You want this. Remember the desk? Remember how you sobbed for it? Give it to me again.”

He didn’t wait for permission. He applied steady, inexorable force.

It was nothing like the first time. There was no tearing shock, no blinding fracture of self. This was a slow, inexorable invasion, a profound yielding. The silicone lube made the glide smooth, but the stretch was astronomical. It felt like he was splitting me in two, filling a space that had no business accommodating him. A deep, groaning sound was torn from my throat, muffled by Swati’s skin.

Swati’s fingers tightened in my hair. “Look at me. Now.”

I forced my head up. My vision swam. Her face was the only fixed point in a universe of overwhelming sensation. Her eyes were wide, dark pools reflecting my own unraveling. She was watching herself watch me break. It was the most intimate violence.

Vishal seated himself to the hilt with one final, grinding thrust.

I cried out. The fullness was beyond description. It was pressure in my bowels, in my spine, a total occupation. He wasn’t just in my ass; he felt like he was in my entire body. I was pinned between them, speared from behind, anchored from the front.

He stayed still, letting me adjust. The burn was there, a bright, stretching ache, but beneath it was a shocking current of pleasure. My clit throbbed, neglected and dripping. Every shallow breath made me feel him shift inside me, a reminder of the obscene connection.

“Fuck,” Vishal gasped, his hands gripping my hips so hard I knew there would be bruises. “Oh, you tight little slut. Your ass is fucking milking me already. It’s sucking me in. You love it, don’t you? You love getting your virgin asshole wrecked by your brother-in-law.”

His filthy words, spoken with such rough awe, lit a fuse in my gut. I did love it. I loved the degradation. I loved the impossibility. I loved that Swati was hearing it, watching it, sanctioning it.

“Move,” I begged, the word a ragged scrape. “Please, move.”

He drew back, an agonizingly slow retreat that made my internal muscles flutter, trying to cling to him. Then he slammed back home.

The impact jolted me forward into Swati. A scream was punched out of me. It was a pain so close to pleasure it was indivisible. It was a claiming.

He set a pace, then. Not the frantic, punishing rhythm from the office, but a deep, rolling, deliberate fuck. Each thrust was a full-body event. My cunt wept, a slick trail coating my inner thighs. The sounds were obscene—wet, fleshy slaps, our grunts and gasps, the creak of the bedsprings.

Swati’s composure was crumbling. Her breath came in short hitches as I was shoved into her with every one of Vishal’s drives. Her held my gaze for as long as she could, but the physical interference was too much. Her eyes glazed over, her lips parting. She was feeling it through me, connected in a circuit of shared sensation.

“Suck,” she ordered again, her voice trembling.

I dropped my mouth back to her breast, latching on like a lifeline. I suckled fiercely, nipping with my teeth, wanting to mark her as I was being marked. Her free hand slipped between her own legs. I could hear the wet sounds as she fingered herself, matching the rhythm of Vishal’s thrusts in my ass.

“You see her?” Vishal grunted, his rhythm becoming less controlled, more ragged. “You see your didi touching her pussy while I fuck her sister’s ass? This is what we are now. This is our family.”

The truth of it, stated so crudely, was a lightning strike. It vaporized the last pretense of accident or impulse. This was a choice. A construction. We were building a new, hideous, glorious family right here on the ruins of the old one. The weight of that revelation was as profound as the physical weight of him inside me.

I was close. The pressure was coiling, a spring wound tight in my lower belly. The dual sensations—the deep, brutal fullness in my ass and the sharp, sweet friction of Swati’s nipple in my mouth—were converging into a single white-hot point.

“I’m gonna come,” Vishal warned, his voice strangled. “I’m gonna fill this dirty little ass. You want that? You want my come in your shithole, Nupur?”

I couldn’t speak. I nodded frantically against Swati’s breast, my moans desperate.

“Swati,” he gasped. “Make her come. Now.”

Swati’s hand left her own cunt. It slid over my hip, through the mess of my own juices, and found my clit. Her fingers were slick, knowing. She pressed the heel of her hand against me as her fingers circled my throbbing nub with a ruthless, perfect precision.

It was too much. The triple assault—the deep, pounding fuck, the suction on my mouth, the expert fingers on my clit—shattered me.

My orgasm ripped through me with a silent, devastating force. My body seized, back arching violently, a strangled scream trapped in my throat. My ass clenched around Vishal’s cock in a series of brutal, rhythmic spasms. That was all it took for him.

He shouted, a raw, guttural sound, and slammed into me one final, punishing time. I felt him pulse, the hot, liquid rush of his release flooding me deep inside. The intimacy of it, the filthy biology, triggered another, smaller wave of contractions that left me trembling and weak.

He collapsed forward over my back, his sweat-slick chest pressing against me, his weight driving him even deeper for a moment. We were a chain of spent bodies: him on me, me against Swati. The only sounds were our ragged, discordant breaths and the low, leftover hum of the air conditioner.

Slowly, carefully, he pulled out.

The sensation was bizarre—a sudden, shocking emptiness, a cool rush of air followed by the unmistakable feeling of leakage. I flinched. Swati’s arms came around me, holding me as Vishal moved away. He slumped onto the bed beside us, his eyes closed, a spent shell.

For a long minute, no one spoke. The aftermath was a thick, complicated silence. The sun had climbed higher, casting sharp rectangles of light across the rumpled sheets, illuminating the evidence of what we’d done.

Swati was the first to move. She gently disengaged my mouth from her breast. Her nipple was reddened, marked with small love bites. She looked at it, then at my dazed face. A slow, strange smile touched her lips. She leaned in and kissed me, softly, on the mouth. It tasted of sweat and sex and her.

“Go clean up,” she said, her voice hoarse but firm. “Shower. You’re a mess.”

I nodded, unable to form words. My legs felt like water as I stumbled from the bed. The walk to the attached bathroom felt like a mile. I could feel Vishal’s come leaking down the back of my thigh. I closed the bathroom door and leaned against it, my heart hammering.

I looked at myself in the mirror. A stranger looked back. My hair was a wild tangle. My lips were swollen. My eyes were too bright, the pupils blown wide. There were red marks on my hips, my breasts, my neck. I looked thoroughly used. I looked alive.

I turned on the shower, as hot as I could stand it. I stepped under the spray, letting it sluice over my skin. The water between my legs ran cloudy. I touched my ass, wincing at the tender, stretched feeling. It was sore, deeply so, but the pain was a brand. A receipt. I had asked for this. I had directed it. The thought was terrifying. It was also powerfully, undeniably erotic.

When I emerged, wrapped in a clean towel, the bedroom had changed. Vishal was gone. Swati was dressed in loose linen pants and a tank top, her hair damp, sitting on the edge of the now-re-made bed. The sheets were stripped. The room smelled of lemon cleaner and fresh air from an open window. The physical evidence had been erased with frightening efficiency.

She held out a mug of tea. “Chamomile. With honey.”

I took it, my fingers brushing hers. “Where is he?”

“Making coffee. Scrambling eggs. The domestic pivot.” She took a sip from her own mug, watching me. “He’s good at that. The sudden normalcy. It’s how he processes.”

“And you?” I asked, sitting beside her. “How do you process?”

She looked out the window. “I don’t, not like he does. I catalog. I analyze. I assess structural integrity.” She turned her head back to me. “What we did… it wasn’t just sex, Nupur. It was a negotiation. A power transfer. You asked to be the center, and we made you the center. But centers are vulnerable. They can hold everything together, or they can be the point where everything collapses.”

“Is it going to collapse?”

“Not if I can help it.” She said it with a quiet ferocity that was more comforting than any gentle assurance. “But you need to understand the rules of this new space. It exists here. Within these walls. It cannot breathe outside. Not a word, not a look, not a fucking hint. To the world, especially to our parents, you are my slightly spoiled, delightfully single younger sister. Vishal is your fond, slightly distracted brother-in-law. The moment that fiction cracks, everything burns. Do you believe you can do that?”

I thought of family dinners, of my mother asking about my love life, of Vishal passing me a bowl of dal with those same hands that had just been gripping my hips. The dissonance was staggering. But the alternative—losing this, going back to the flat, grey world before—was unthinkable.

“Yes,” I said, and I meant it.

“Good.” She stood up. “Then come eat breakfast. He makes terrible eggs, but you should eat. You’ll need your strength.”

The kitchen was a study in surreal normalcy. Vishal, in jeans and a faded t-shirt, stood at the stove, spatula in hand. The radio played soft jazz. The smell of coffee and toast filled the air. He looked like any handsome, slightly rumpled man making a weekend breakfast.

He glanced over his shoulder as we entered. His smile was easy, but his eyes held a new knowledge, a sharp, shared secret that changed everything. “Sunny-side up or scrambled? I’ve already butchered both, so choose your disaster.”

“Scrambled,” I said, my voice sounding strange to my own ears.

“Wise choice.” He plated the eggs, which were indeed a bit dry, and brought them to the small kitchen table. We sat, the three of us. The silence wasn’t awkward, but it was charged. Every clink of a fork, every sip of coffee, was laden with subtext.

“So,” Vishal said, clearing his throat. “Plans for the day?”

It was such a banal, stupid question. I almost laughed. Swati kicked my ankle under the table.

“Laundry,” Swati said. “Grocery shopping. The thrilling stuff. You?”

“I should go into the office for a few hours,” he said, chasing a piece of egg around his plate. “Clean up. There’s… paperwork on my desk that needs sorting.”

Paperwork. The word hung in the air. I saw the ghost of myself, bent over that same desk, the silk scarf biting into my wrists. I felt a fresh, hot trickle between my legs that had nothing to do with his come and everything to do with memory.

Our eyes met across the table. He didn’t wink or smirk. He just held my gaze, and in that look, I saw the entire office—the flickering light, the scent of musk and fear, the stinging blows, the final, surrendering penetration. He was reliving it too. The domesticity was a wafer-thin veneer.

“I should go home,” I said, pushing my plate away. “Change. Do my own thrilling stuff.”

“Of course,” Swati said, all polite hostess. “You’ll come for dinner on Tuesday? Mummy and Papa are calling.”

A test. Already.

“Wouldn’t miss it,” I said, forcing a bright smile.

The rest of the breakfast passed in a blur of mundane chatter. The weather. A new restaurant. The state of the traffic. It was a performance, and we were all giving Academy Award-worthy efforts. When I stood to leave, Swati walked me to the door. Vishal stayed in the kitchen, washing dishes.

At the doorway, Swati pulled me into a hug. It was a sisterly embrace, but her lips were at my ear. “The scarf you left in his office,” she whispered, her voice a mere thread of sound. “The silk one. I have it. I put it in your purse. Keep it safe.”

She released me, her face a mask of pleasant affection. “Bye, sweetie. Drive safely.”

I walked to my car in a daze. The morning sun was bright, hurting my eyes. The world looked too sharp, too ordinary. I got in, started the engine, and sat there for a full five minutes, not moving. Then I opened my purse.

There it was. The pale blue silk scarf, now faintly creased, carrying the ghostly scent of his office, of her perfume, of our sweat. I brought it to my face and inhaled deeply. The smell was a time machine. It dropped me right back onto my knees, gagged, waiting for the sting of his belt.

A violent, aching throb pulsed between my legs. I was sore, I was exhausted, but I was also unbearably, desperately aroused again. The memory wasn’t a memory; it was a live current. I knew then, with a certainty that was both frightening and exhilarating, that this wasn’t over. It was just beginning. The negotiation, as Swati called it, was ongoing. And I was no longer just a participant.

I was a stakeholder.

I drove home slowly, the scarf on the passenger seat like a secret co-pilot. My body felt different in the car seat. The tender ache was a constant reminder. My mind replayed everything in stunning, filthy detail. When I got to my apartment, I didn’t start laundry. I didn’t call a friend.

I went straight to my bedroom, locked the door, and laid the silk scarf across my pillow. I didn’t touch myself. I just lay down next to it, curled on my side, and inhaled. I replayed the feeling of his hands, her mouth, the impossible fullness, the shocking surrender. I fell asleep like that, in the middle of the day, dreaming of confined spaces and shared secrets, the taste of my sister still on my tongue.
