It's been a slow and uneventful season at the Bachelor in Paradise. Producers thought the perfect plan would be to bring back the Los Angeles heartthrob John Paul Jones (JPJ) but the fireworks have fizzled so far there haven't been any genuine connections and JPJ is at risk of going home after tomorrow's rose ceremony. JPJ confides in the charming bartender Wells about his imminent elimination from Paradise, and it leads to a late night rendezvous in the hotel for one last fling before JPJ is sent home.

Chapter 1: Introduction

The sun dipped low over the crystalline waters of the Caribbean, casting a warm golden glow over the "Bachelor in Paradise" resort. The air was a symphony of tropical birdsong and the soft rustle of palm leaves, punctuated by the distant laughter of contestants enjoying their first night at the all-inclusive haven. Amidst the chaos of flirtatious banter and clinking glasses, one figure stood out, slumped over the bar with a dejected slouch and a half-empty glass of rum.

JPJ, the tall, blonde Adonis with a penchant for cluelessness in matters of the heart, looked like he'd just been handed his own expiration date. His long, sun-kissed hair was ruffled, and his deep blue eyes held a glint of frustration rather than their usual spark.

"Looks like someone's had a rough start," came a smooth, velvety voice from behind the bar. Wells, the resort's bartender extraordinaire, leaned against the counter with a casual ease that made him seem more like a long-lost friend than a mixologist.

His dark hair was tousled just enough to give him a charmingly disheveled look, and his eyes sparkled with genuine concern as he took in JPJ's sullen demeanor.

JPJ let out a sigh that seemed to come from the very core of his being. "You could say that," he muttered, raising his glass as if to salute some unseen enemy. "I feel like I'm on a sinking ship with a faulty lifeboat."

Wells chuckled, his lips curling into a lopsided grin.

"Well, we can't have that. You're a Viking, for crying out loud—you should be out there conquering hearts, not drowning in your own sorrows." He gestured to the crowd of contestants mingling nearby, their laughter and chatter filling the air. "What's the story, anyway? Did someone steal your thunder?"

JPJ snorted, taking a long swallow from his glass before setting it down with a thud. "You could say that. I thought I had a connection with someone, but it turns out I was just another notch on her scorecard."

Wells leaned in, his eyes reflecting the flickering candlelight.

"Oh, I see. Been there, done that, got the T-shirt," he said with a wry smile. "Sometimes, we're just a means to an end for some people. But hey, that's just part of the game, right?"

JPJ didn't return the smile. Instead, he stared into his drink, swirling the amber liquid around. "I guess. But it's just... I came here hoping to find something real. You know? Not just another fling."

Wells nodded, his expression softening. "I know what you mean. It's tough out there.

Love is a battlefield, and this place is like a freaking warzone," Wells said, his eyes scanning the crowd with a knowing smirk. "But hey, at least you're armed with abs and a smile."

JPJ let out a reluctant chuckle, some of the tension leaving his shoulders. "Yeah, but what good is that when you're up against someone with a PhD in manipulation?"

Wells laughed, a deep, genuine sound that made a few heads turn. "Well, that's the thing about battlefields—you've got to learn to dodge the bullets.
