Chapter 1: Opening Image

A portal opened to the entrance of an old apartment building.

A young man exited from, wearing a bloody cloak. He was drenched in rain, his hair matted to his forehead. His eyes were wide with confusion and fear. He looked around, taking in the familiar yet changed surroundings. The once vibrant neighborhood was now a grimy, concrete jungle. The air was thick with the scent of rain and the faint smell of decay.

He stood on the steps of his old apartment building, the rain pelting against his face. His robotic arm, Sharp, hummed softly as it adjusted to the cold. The scythes that could rip from his body to support him were sheathed, but their presence was a constant reminder of his past.

He took a deep breath, the cold air filling his lungs.

His titanium, sea turtle shell melted to his back felt heavy, but it was a comforting weight. He had always been a creature of habit, and the rhythm of the rain was a familiar lullaby. But the world had changed. The neon signs that once flickered with life were now dull and flickering, their colors muted by the rain. The laughter and chatter from the street below were replaced by the distant hum of traffic and the occasional shout of a drunken voice.

He started to ascend the stairs, his steps echoing in the silence. The building was old, its paint chipped and peeling. The walls were adorned with faded graffiti, a testament to the years that had passed.

The once vibrant colors were now dull and muted, much like the world outside. He could see his reflection in the grimy windows, the prosthetic mask on his face glinting in the dim light. He looked away, his eyes falling on the worn-out welcome mat at his doorstep. It was the same one he had left behind three years ago, a small comfort in the face of the unknown.

He reached out to touch the doorknob, his robotic hand clanking softly against the metal. He hesitated, his heart pounding in his chest. What if things had changed? What if no one recognized him? What if he was a stranger in his own home?
