Chapter 6: Private Lessons
The morning light felt accusing. It highlighted every rumpled corner of my sheets, every memory of the night’s fantasies etched into the fabric. My body moved through my morning classes like a ghost, the lack of coordination obvious in the clatter of a dropped pen, the near-collision with a doorframe. My own skin felt like a too-tight suit, hypersensitive and humming with a residual energy I desperately wanted to forget.
When I walked into the natatorium for afternoon practice, the wave of chlorinated air was a physical blow. It was the scent from my dream. My stomach swooped.
The team was already in the water, a chaos of splashing and shouted drills. I kept my eyes down, heading for the locker room to change, when a voice cut through the din.
“Hayes. You’re late.”
Coach Miller stood at the edge of the pool, arms crossed, a whistle hanging from his lips. His gaze was sharp, disapproving.
“Sorry, Coach,” I mumbled, my cheeks burning. “I lost track of time.”
“Your flip turns were a mess yesterday. Your streamlines are lazy. You think a scholarship is just for showing up?” He didn’t wait for an answer. “Owen! Get over here.”
My heart seized. Owen surfaced from a lane near the back, water sluicing off his broad shoulders. He swam over with easy, powerful strokes and hoisted himself out, standing dripping on the deck.
“Yeah, Coach?”
“Hayes needs remedial work. Her technique is falling apart. You stay after. Work with her. I don’t want to see that limp form in the water tomorrow.” He didn’t wait for a response, turning his back on us to bark at another swimmer.
We stood there, the silence stretching between us, filled only by the echoes of the pool. Owen’s eyes held a knowing light, a faint smile playing on his lips. He’d seen the messages. He knew why I was so distracted.
“Looks like you’ve got a private lesson,” he said, his voice low.
The next two hours were agony. Every lap felt like a betrayal, my body remembering things it had no right to. I was hyper-aware of Owen, even when he was across the pool. I caught him watching me during drills, his gaze a tangible weight. When practice was called, the team filed out, their laughter fading, leaving the vast space in a sudden, echoing quiet.
The automatic shut-off timer kicked in, killing the main banks of fluorescents. The only light now came from the emergency strips along the walls and the ghostly blue glow from the underwater pool lights, casting shifting, liquid patterns on the ceiling.
Owen stood by the equipment rack, toweling his hair. “So. Remedial work.”
“I can manage on my own,” I said, my voice too loud in the emptiness.
“Coach’s orders.” He dropped the towel. “Let’s start with your body position. You’re riding too low in the water. It’s creating drag.”
He walked toward me. My feet felt rooted to the cool, wet tile. This was it. The threshold.
“Get in,” he said, not unkindly.
I slipped into the water, the chill a shock that was instantly familiar. He got in beside me, and the water rippled, lapping against my chest.
“Okay, on your back. Float.”
I lay back, letting the water hold me, staring up at the dark, vaulted ceiling. His hands settled on my ribs, just below my breasts. My entire body went rigid.
“Relax, Hayes. I’m not going to bite.” His thumbs pressed gently. “You’re tense. You sink when you’re tense. You have to trust the water to hold you. Arch your back a little. Just a little.”
His voice was a calm, instructional murmur, but his hands were firm, possessive. He guided my hips, tilting them. “There. Feel that? You’re higher now.” His fingers trailed down my sides, over the thin fabric of my suit, settling on the outside of my thighs. “Keep your legs straight. Don’t let them drop.”
He was everywhere. His touch was clinical, yet anything but. It was a direct line back to the phantom hands in my bed. I could feel the heat of him through the water, a separate current swirling around me.
“Now flip over. Let’s see your kick.”
I rolled onto my stomach, grateful to hide my face. He moved behind me. One hand pressed flat against my lower back, the other on my abdomen, just above the line of my suit.
“Your core is weak. That’s part of the problem. You need to engage from here.” His hand on my stomach pressed inward, a firm, intimate pressure. “Tighten up.”
I sucked in a breath, my muscles clenching under his touch. His other hand slid lower, his fingers splaying over the curve of my backside.
“Better,” he murmured, his voice closer now. I could feel his breath on the nape of my neck. “Now kick.”
I kicked, my legs moving on autopilot. The water churned around us. His hands remained, anchors of sensation. The hand on my backside drifted, almost imperceptibly, lower, his fingers tracing the very edge of my suit where it cut between my cheeks.
A helpless sound escaped me, a half-gasp, half-moan, swallowed by the vastness of the natatorium.
He stilled. “What was that?”
“Nothing,” I breathed, my face burning.
“Didn’t sound like nothing.” His voice was a low hum against my ear. He shifted, his body aligning with mine in the water, his chest pressing against my back. The length of him was a solid, unignorable heat. His hands moved to my hips, holding me in place. “Your kick is still off. Your hips aren’t rotating properly.”
He began to move them for me, a slow, rhythmic undulation that had nothing to do with swimming. Back and forth. A deliberate, grinding motion. The fabric of my suit rubbed against me with each movement, sparking a fire that spread through my limbs.
“Is this helping, Willow?” he whispered, his lips brushing the shell of my ear. “Are you learning?”
I couldn’t speak. My head dropped forward, my forehead resting on the cool tile of the pool edge. My hands gripped the gutter, my knuckles white. My body was betraying me completely, melting into his guidance, into the sinful, slow circle of his hips against me.
“I saw the way you looked at me after the pub,” he continued, his voice barely audible over the lap of water and the frantic beat of my heart. “You liked it when I called you out. You liked that I saw you.” One of his hands slid from my hip, across the bare skin of my stomach, and down, down, until his fingers were pressed flat against the front of my suit, right over the aching, sensitive center of me.
I jolted, a sharp, electric shock that racked my entire body.
“You’re not so simple, are you?” he breathed, his fingers applying a gentle, maddening pressure, mirroring the rhythm of his hips. “The girl in my texts last night… she wasn’t simple at all.”
He pressed harder. A low, guttural moan was torn from my throat. My eyes squeezed shut. The water supported my weight, cradled me, even as his touch dismantled me. The fantasy was here, now, in the chilling water and the dark, empty arena. It was real. His touch was real.
His fingers moved in a small, cruel circle. “This is what you stayed for, isn’t it?”
I couldn’t deny it. My body was his answer, arching back against him, seeking more of the friction, the pressure, the delicious, shameful release. My grip on the gutter tightened, my entire world narrowing to the point where his hand met my body, to the heat of his chest against my back, to the whisper of his voice in the chlorine-scented dark.
“Yeah,” he murmured, his own breath hitching. “That’s what I thought.”
His hand left me, the sudden absence of pressure a cold shock. "Turn around."
The command was quiet, absolute. My limbs moved sluggishly, weighted by water and a thick, humiliating need. I turned, my back pressing against the cold tile edge as I faced him. The underwater lights painted his torso in shifting cerulean bands, his expression unreadable in the dimness.
He moved closer, caging me between his arms, his hands flat on the tile on either side of my hips. His knee nudged my legs apart, settling between them. The world shrank to this small, trapped space.
"You're shaking," he observed, his voice a low rumble. His eyes dropped to my mouth.
I was. A fine, constant tremor ran through me. From cold, from fear, from the raw, unwound thing his touch had unspooled inside me.
"Please," I whispered. The word was a fragmented thing, stripped of any specific meaning.
"Please what?" He leaned in, his mouth hovering a breath from mine. He smelled of chlorine and the clean, sharp scent of his own sweat. "You need to say it, Willow. Use your words."
My mind was a white blank. I could only feel the hard muscle of his thigh pressed against me, the phantom ache where his fingers had been. My own silence condemned me.
His head dipped, his lips brushing the sensitive skin beneath my ear. "Tell me to stop, and I walk away right now." His tongue traced a slow, wet path up my neck. "But you won't, will you?"
A choked sound, half sob, half agreement, caught in my throat. My head fell back against the tile with a soft thud. My hands, which had been gripping the gutter, came up to clutch at his shoulders. His skin was hot, slick.
"It's okay," he murmured into my skin, his voice losing its clinical edge, turning rough. "I know what you need. I've known since I saw you trying to figure out the timer on the bloody washing machine."
The mundane memory, flung back at me in this moment, was its own kind of violation. He saw all of me—the incompetence, the desire—and he was using it.
His hand slid from the tile, down my arm, my side, coming to rest high on my thigh. His fingers dug in, possessive. "This is for you. Remember that."
Then his mouth was on mine, not asking, but taking. It wasn't a gentle kiss. It was a claim. His tongue pushed past my lips, the taste of him overwhelming, a mix of pool water and something darkly, essentially male. I kissed him back, a clumsy, desperate mimicry of his movements.
My body arched off the wall, seeking more contact, more of the frantic heat he was sparking. Every rational thought dissolved into a single, pulsing point of want.
He broke the kiss, both of us breathing in ragged, echoing gasps. His eyes were black pools in the half-light, fixed on mine. His hand moved from my thigh, inward, his knuckles brushing against the damp fabric straining between my legs.
A jolt, sharp and electric, seized me. My eyes slammed shut.
His touch was a brand through the wet fabric, a precise, unbearable friction. Every nerve ending screamed, coalescing into that single point of contact. My thoughts shattered into static.
“Look at me.” His voice was rough, stripping away the last pretense of coaching. I forced my eyes open. His gaze was locked on mine, dark and intent, as his fingers moved again. “See? This is what you are.”
A sound broke from me, ragged and high. My head fell back against the tile with a dull crack I barely felt. The world narrowed to the pressure of his hand, the cold wall at my back, the heat of him surrounding me.
“You’re so ready.” His breath was hot against my cheek. “All that noise in your head, and your body just knows.” His rhythm was relentless, a practiced, knowing cadence that erased everything else. My hips twitched, a helpless reflex, seeking more. He gave a low, approving hum. “There it is.”
My fingers dug into his shoulders, nails scraping over wet skin. I was coming apart under his hands, the tension coiling impossibly tight deep inside. My breaths were shallow, frantic pants.
“I can feel you shaking.” He shifted, his knee pressing more firmly between my legs. “Just let it go.”
It wasn’t a choice. It was a collapse. A wave crashed through me, violent and absolute, tearing a choked cry from my throat. My vision whited out. My muscles seized, then went liquid, my whole weight sagging against the wall and his supporting arms.
The aftershocks pulsed through me, a lingering hum that left my limbs useless. My breath came in ragged hitches, echoing too loud in the vast, empty silence of the pool. He held me up, his grip on my arms the only solid thing in a world that had dissolved into sensation.
His low chuckle vibrated against my ear. "See? You just needed the right kind of lesson."
Slowly, my awareness returned, piece by shameful piece. The cold tile against my back. The damp, heavy weight of my swimsuit. The smell of us—chlorine and sweat and something else, something intimate and sharp—filling the air between us. I couldn't look at him.
He didn't move away. His hands slid from my arms to my hips, his thumbs rubbing slow, possessive circles on the bare skin above my suit line. "You're all loose now. Finally relaxed."
I swallowed, my throat dry. "Owen..."
"Shhh." His finger came up, tracing my lower lip. "That was just the warm-up." He leaned back slightly, just enough for his eyes to roam over my body, my heaving chest, the flush I could feel spreading across my skin. His gaze was calculating, appreciative. "My turn."
A cold dread, entirely separate from the pool's chill, trickled down my spine. "What?"
He gestured with his chin, a lazy, offhand motion. "The suit. Take it off."
The words didn't compute at first. They hung in the chlorinated air, absurd and terrifying. I just stared at him, my mind blank.
He sighed, as if explaining something simple to a child. "I just got you off, Willow. My hands are all cramped." A slow, ugly smile spread across his face. "It's only fair you do something for me too."
My mouth opened, but no sound came out. The protest died before it was born, suffocated by the memory of my own compliance, the way my body had arched and begged for his touch. This was the price. This was always the price.
"Now," he said, the word soft but absolute.
My hands trembled as I brought them up, fumbling for the straps of my one-piece. The fabric was stuck to my skin, refusing to budge. Each second stretched, a silent plea for him to change his mind, to laugh and say it was a joke. He just watched, his arms crossed, a statue of casual expectation.
I hooked my thumbs under the straps and peeled them down my shoulders. The cold air hit my damp skin, raising goosebumps. I had to shrug and wriggle, a clumsy, humiliating dance, to work the suit down over my torso. The sound of the wet fabric slapping against the tile as it pooled at my feet was deafening.
I stood there, exposed in the eerie blue light, my arms crossing instinctively over my small breasts. The vast emptiness of the natatorium pressed in on me, a thousand unseen eyes. I was completely bare, and he was still fully dressed, his trunks dark and obscene against his skin.
"Better," he murmured, his eyes drinking me in. "Now we're even."
He didn't move to touch me. He just looked, and in that look, I felt more naked than I ever had in my life. The water lapped gently against the pool's edge, the only sound in the waiting silence. He suddenly grabbed my swimsuit and threw it onto the bleachers - meaning If I wanted it back, I'd need to get out of the water naked - or have him get it back. I was now trapped.
I was now trapped. The water, once a medium for flight, was now a cage, its surface a shimmering barrier between my exposed skin and the distant, crumpled evidence of my modesty. Owen’s gaze was a physical weight, a slow, deliberate inventory of my trembling form.
He didn’t speak. He simply watched, his arms crossed over his chest, a faint, unreadable smile playing on his lips. The silence was worse than any command, filled only by the drip of water from our bodies and the hum of the filtration system. He was drinking me in, and the sheer focus of his attention was its own violation.
“Cold?” he finally asked, his voice a low murmur that seemed to vibrate in the cavernous space.
I could only manage a jerky nod, my arms tightening over my chest. My nipples were hard pebbles against my chilled forearms.
“Come here,” he said, not moving. It wasn’t an invitation. It was a test.
My feet felt leaden on the rough pool floor. Each step through the waist-deep water was a struggle, the resistance feeling like a final, futile plea from my body to stop. He watched my approach, his eyes dark pools of satisfaction in the dim light.
When I was within arm’s reach, he uncrossed his arms. “Don’t,” he said softly, as my hands instinctively rose to cover myself again. “Let me see.”
His command paralyzed me. My arms fell back to my sides, my hands balling into impotent fists. He closed the small distance between us, the water sloshing gently around his hips. His eyes traced the lines of my collarbones, the shallow dip of my navel, the subtle curve of my hips.
“You have no idea,” he murmured, more to himself than to me. His fingertips, calloused and cool, brushed a stray droplet from my shoulder. It traced a path down my arm, leaving a trail of fire in its wake.
He enjoyed my nakedness. It wasn’t just a visual thing; it was a palpable energy he drew from my vulnerability. His pleasure was in my utter exposure, in the way my breath hitched when his knuckle grazed the side of my breast. He was a collector of moments like this, and I was his newest, most prized specimen.
“So perfect like this,” he whispered, his hand sliding to my waist, his thumb stroking the delicate skin there. “Just for me.”
His other hand came up, not to touch, but to hover, a breath away from my cheek. He was framing me with his presence, controlling the very air I breathed. I was laid bare, not just in body, but in spirit, and he was savoring every second of it.
The low, pervasive hum of the pool pump was the only sound for a long moment. His gaze was a brand, searing the image of my submission into the silence between us. He was in no hurry. The night was his, and I was his to examine.
“Turn around.” The words were quiet, almost conversational, but their impact was immense.
A fresh tremor ran through me. I didn’t want to. Turning felt like a deeper surrender, offering up the last untouched parts of myself. But my body, disconnected from my will, obeyed. The water swirled around my thighs as I slowly pivoted, presenting my back to him.
I felt his stare like a heat lamp on my skin. It traveled the length of my spine, the curve of my lower back, the pale expanse he had guided with such possession just minutes before. I was completely open to him, my defenselessness his to observe and relish.
He let out a slow, appreciative breath. “Even better.”
His enjoyment was a tangible force, a predator’s quiet exultation over its cornered prey. He was making a memory, and my naked, shivering form was the centerpiece. I was trapped in his gaze, in this blue-lit water, in the consequences of my own desperate, earlier sounds. And he was just beginning.
And he was just beginning. His fingers traced the notches of my spine, one by one, a slow descent that made every muscle tense in anticipation. I flinched when his palms settled on my hips, his thumbs pressing into the dimples at the base of my back.
“So responsive,” he mused, his voice a low vibration against my ear. He pulled me backward until my body was flush against his, the wet fabric of his trunks abrasive against my skin. I could feel the hard line of his erection pressing into the small of my back, a definitive, threatening promise.
His arms wrapped around my waist, locking me in place. One hand slid down, fingers splaying across my lower belly, holding me firm. The other hand drifted lower, over the smooth, hairless skin I’d so carefully maintained, a private vanity that now felt like a preparation for this exact violation.
“You’re shaking again.” He nipped at my shoulder, not quite a bite, but a sharp, possessive punctuation. “Good.”
I wanted the water to swallow me whole. I wanted to spin around and claw his eyes out. I did nothing. I stood there, letting him hold me, my own traitorous body remembering the shattering release he’d wrung from it just minutes before. The phantom echoes of it still pulsed between my legs, a humiliating aftershock.
He turned me in his arms, the movement effortless. His eyes were dark, his expression stripped of its earlier playful mask, leaving only a stark, hungry intensity. He studied my face, my parted lips, the terrified dilation of my pupils.
“You know,” he said, his tone conversational, as if we were discussing the weather, “my hands are still tired from all that… coaching.” His gaze dropped pointedly to the front of his swim trunks. “And now I’m all worked up.”
A cold dread, thick and heavy, coiled in my stomach. I knew what was coming. The locker room fantasy, the texts from three different boys, it all curdled into this single, inescapable moment.
“So here’s the deal,” he said, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. He leaned in, his lips brushing my ear as he spoke the words that sealed my fate. “I’m going to use your thighs to get myself off, unless you want to instead put your mouth to good use.”
The words hung in the chlorinated air, brutal and obscenely casual. My mind went blank, then raced, a frantic scramble for a third option that didn’t exist. The cold tile, the distant bleachers where my suit lay, the relentless blue glow—they were all witnesses to my choice.
His knee nudged my legs apart, a blunt reminder of the first option. The threat of it, the crude, impersonal friction, sent a fresh wave of nausea through me. My eyes flickered down, then back to his face, to the unwavering certainty in his eyes.
He wasn't asking. He was presenting a menu.
My mouth felt like it was full of ash. I tried to form a word, any word, but my vocal cords were frozen. The memory of his fingers on me, the way my body had betrayed me, made the first option feel like a deeper, more profound defeat. It would be using my reaction, my pleasure, against me.
He watched the struggle play out on my face, a faint, cruel smile touching his lips. He enjoyed this part, the dismantling of my will more than the physical act itself.
"Time's up, Hayes," he murmured, his hand moving to the waistband of his trunks.
"No." The word was a cracked whisper, barely audible.
He stilled. "No, what?"
I closed my eyes, unable to look at him as I made the choice. I swallowed hard, the motion painful. "My… my mouth."
