Chapter 1: Introduction

I guess the first time I laid eyes on her, I knew I was screwed. Sarah Ridgeway strode down the hallway like she owned the place, her golden hair bouncing and painting a trail around her as she moved. She was tall, like some Amazonian warrior queen, with long, slender legs that went on for fucking miles. Her eyes were icy blue orbs that could strip the soul from any man who dared meet her gaze. I, Alex Stevens, was that man.

I was the puny little shit, the mouse of high school. A tall, gangly kid with glasses, slumped shoulders, and a knack for getting myself into trouble. I was the top student in our grade, but that didn't count for much when faced with the likes of Sarah Ridgeway. No, I was the bottom feeder, the laughing stock for her and her posse of cheerleaders and jocks.

The hallway, a long, cold, and impersonal space, was our battleground.

The clamor of students rushing between classes was the soundtrack to my misery, while the constant torment from Sarah Ridgeway was my battle scars. The lockers lined the walls, each one holding the secrets of a student, but none so hideous as the ones I kept.

Like the mornings after a snowstorm, the hallway would be dusted with laughter, a guffaw here, a cackle there, at my expense.

I learned to avoid eye contact with her, to walk with my head down and my steps quick, never lingering too long in her presence. But one day, I had enough. I decided to challenge her, to break the cycle of humiliation and claim my status as a man.

It wasn't until lunchtime that I found the courage to approach her. She sat at her usual table, surrounded by her minions who all looked up at me, sizing me up, like I was nothing more than a piece of roadkill.

I held out my hand, fingers trembling slightly, and extended a formal invitation.

"Sarah," I began, trying to muster as much bravado as I could, "I've got a proposition for you."

She looked up at me, raising an eyebrow, unimpressed. "What is it, Alex?" she sneered, the air around us tensing up like a coiled snake.

I swallowed hard, my heart pounding in my chest like a jackhammer.

"I propose a bet," I continued, my voice steady despite the nervousness coursing through my veins. "If I win, you do whatever I say for a day and you'll let me leave you alone after that." I couldn't help the smirk that curled up the corners of my mouth as I spelled out my proposition.

Sarah leaned back in her chair, her expression neutral yet calculating. "And what if I win?" she asked, her voice cold and detached.

The cafeteria around us seemed to fade away, the noise and chaos disappearing in an instant.

I gulped, trying to hide my nervousness. "Then, you can do something humiliating to me for a day, and I won't bother you again." I replied, hoping that I sounded more confident than I felt.

Sarah's lips cracked into a wicked smile, a twinkle in her eye. "Okay, I like the sound of that." She said, extending her hand towards me. "You have a deal, Alex.

But I warn you, I don't lose." Sarah's voice was steady, and there was a dangerous glint in her eye that sent shivers down my spine.

A hush fell over the cafeteria as the students nearby took in the scene unfolding before them. I could feel the weight of their stares and the anticipation building in the air.

I took Sarah's hand and shook it firmly. "Great, I'll hold you to that." I said, my determination solidifying in my chest.

Sarah arched an eyebrow, an amused glint in her eye. "And what exactly is the test, Alex?" she asked, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

I hesitated for a moment, not wanting to reveal too much too soon, but I knew I had to give her something.

"The test is simple," I explained, trying to match her composure. "I'll give you a math problem, and if you can solve it in under five minutes, you win.
