Chapter 4: Atalanta the warrior
The stark, brutal walls of the cavernous arena seemed to close in on Atalanta. Her stomach clenched, her arms throbbed from the ropes that had bound them and the remnants of the toad’s slimy touch lingered on her skin. She felt a wave of nausea wash over her. The crowd’s roars echoed through the pit, a relentless, deafening chorus of bloodlust and cruelty. The smell of sweat, blood, and decay filled her nostrils, making her gag. These were the tastes, the smells, the sensations she had learned to associate with the pit.
The elves eyes were trained on the towering figure of the owner of the slaves.
He was a grotesque creature, a fat midget with no legs, his body a repulsive parody of humanity. His hooked nose and fat face glistened with sweat, his eyes gleamed with a malevolent intelligence that sent a shiver down Atalanta's spine. He sat in his wheelchair, his deformed body a testament to the cruelty and depravity of the pit. His eyes were fixed on her, his gaze a physical force that seemed to strip her bare, leaving her vulnerable and exposed.
Atalanta's eyes were wide, her breath hitching as she stared back at him, her defiance a palpable force that seemed to fill the very air around them. She knew that she had to keep going and she knew that she had to do whatever it took to survive. The owner of the slaves, his voice a harsh, grating sound that cut through the din of the crowd, his eyes gleamed with a mix of lust and malice as he addressed Atalanta. "You are the prize of the pits, the most beautiful and fierce warrior I have ever seen. But you will bow to me and you will serve me.
Do you understand?
The elf's defiance was palpable, her spirit unbroken. She stood with her head held high, her golden hair cascading down her back in a wild, untamed mane. Her eyes blazed with a fiery intensity, a silent challenge to the owner’s authority. “Never,” she spat, her voice a low, guttural growl that cut through the air like a knife.
The owner's eyes narrowed, his lips curling into a cruel smirk. "Oh, I see. You think you have the upper hand, don't you? You think you can defy me and live to tell the tale? I will break you, elf.
