Chapter 2: Continuation.

The kiss on the dance floor didn’t end. It just changed venues, moving from the crowded haze of the bar to the cool, private darkness of the parking lot, then into the cab of his truck. The drive to the motel he’d rented for the competition was a blur of streetlights and stolen glances, his large hand warm and sure on her thigh.

The room was generic—starched bedspread, laminate furniture, the faint smell of antiseptic cleaner. None of it mattered. The second the door clicked shut, the world narrowed to the space between their bodies.

He backed her against the wall, his hands cradling her face, and kissed her again. This was different from the bar. There was no audience, no music. It was just a hungry, silent conversation. Her purse slid from her shoulder and thumped to the floor. His hat followed.

Her fingers worked the buttons of his shirt, pushing the worn denim off his shoulders. He did the same, tugging her top over her head. The air, cool from the vent, hit her skin, raising goosebumps. Then his hands were on her, warm and rough-skinned, mapping the curve of her waist, the swell of her hips with a reverence that stole her breath.

He surprised her.

Not with his body, though that was a revelation—the defined muscle carved by labor, the powerful shoulders, the startling, thick length of him already hard against her. That was a visual shock, a flush of pure, carnal heat. The surprise was in his deftness, his attentiveness. He was only eighteen. She’d expected fumbling, haste.

There was none.

He kissed her again, slow and deep and passionate, his tongue dancing with hers in a rhythm that was both question and answer. His hands roamed her body, caressing without claiming, exploring every dip and curve as if memorizing a sacred text. He was strong, yet impossibly gentle. When his mouth left hers to trail down her neck, to her collarbone, and finally to take a nipple into the warm heat of his mouth, she gasped, her head falling back against the wall. He listened, attuned to every hitch in her breath, every soft moan that escaped her lips. There were no words. None were needed.

He kissed his way down the plane of her stomach, his stubble a delicious scratch against her skin. When his tongue found the small silver hoop of her navel piercing, he swirled around it, playful. She gasped, then chuckled, the sensation tickling and electric at once. He smiled against her skin, the boy in him flashing through.

Then he moved lower, settling between her legs as she braced herself against the wall. His hands hooked under her thighs, lifting her subtly, opening her to him.

What he did then was not the act of a boy. It was artistry. He worshipped her with a patient, relentless focus that shattered every expectation. She was water in the middle of a desert, and he was a man who knew how to drink. He left no crumbs. The first crest took her by surprise, a sharp, bright wave that made her cry out, her fingers knotting in his sun-streaked hair. He didn’t stop. He guided her through a second, deeper, rolling peak, then a third, until she was trembling, boneless, whispering his name like a prayer.

He stood then, his eyes dark as a midnight sky, and lifted her easily into his arms. He carried her to the bed, laying her down on the stiff comforter. She reached for him, pulling him into a kiss where she could taste herself on his lips. As they kissed, he shifted, aligning his body with hers. He slid himself inside her in one smooth, inexorable push.

The sensation forced a ragged grunt from her, a sound of pure, overwhelming fullness. He stilled, buried to the hilt, his forehead pressed to hers, his breath coming in sharp gusts. “Alysha,” he breathed, her name a broken thing.

Then he began to move.

His rhythm was smooth, a deep, languid roll of his hips that spoke of a control far beyond his years. There was no frantic pounding, no jarring impact. Just this unbelievable, fluid motion that unraveled her from the inside out. His length and girth stretched her, filled her completely, each slow withdrawal an agony of loss, each measured thrust a homecoming. He watched her face, his blue eyes locked on hers, reading every flicker of pleasure.

He built the peaks slowly, masterfully. The fourth crest, the fifth. Her breaths became sobs. The sixth, seventh. She was clutching at his back, her nails leaving half-moons in the hard muscle. The eighth, ninth. The world dissolved into sensation, into the smell of their sweat, the sound of skin on skin, the feeling of him moving within her like a tide.

By the tenth, she was beyond reason. It tore through her, a seismic release that had her back arching off the bed, a scream ripped from her throat as her vision whited out, staring into nothingness. The violent clench of her around him was the final trigger.

It drove him over the edge. A raw, guttural sound tore from his chest as he plunged deep and held, pulsing, an obscene amount of heat flooding into her. She could feel every vivid pulse within her, the final, helpless surrender of his control. He collapsed onto her, his full weight a comforting anchor, his face buried in the crook of her neck.

They stayed like that for a while, tangled, breath slowly returning. The only sound was the hum of the air conditioner and the wild drumming of their hearts slowing to a syncopated beat.

Eventually, he shifted, slipping out of her, but he didn’t go far. He rolled to his side, taking her with him, keeping her wrapped in his arms. He pressed a kiss to her damp temple.

She was adrift, her mind a blank, stunned slate. Every nerve ending sang. She traced the line of a scar on his shoulder with a fingertip.

“Where,” she started, her voice hoarse. She cleared her throat. “Where did you learn to do that?”

She turned in his arms to face him. In the faint light slipping under the curtains, she saw that boyish warmth returned to his smile, now soft with satiation and something else, something vulnerable and raw.

She didn’t have an answer. Not yet. So she kissed him, slow and sweet, and let the impossible truth of him, here and now, be the only thing that mattered.

So she kissed him, slow and sweet, and let the impossible truth of him, here and now, be the only thing that mattered. The room held their silence, a comfortable echo of spent breath. She traced the line of his jaw, her thumb brushing the corner of his mouth.

“Where do you go from here?” she asked, her voice a husky whisper in the dimness. The question felt necessary, a thread tying this room to a world beyond its walls.

He didn’t hesitate. “Back to the ranch. In Colorado.” He said it plainly, a simple fact like the color of the sky. “The stock trailer leaves at noon tomorrow. Gotta get Thor and the bulls home.”

A surprising relief washed through her, cool and clear. It was the relief of impermanence, a defined end that meant this night didn’t have to bear the weight of a future they hadn’t negotiated. She loved the world he’d built—the strength, the purpose, the raw authenticity of it. But her own world was bricks and mortar, a career built on precise schedules and sterile halls, a life she’d painstakingly established. She couldn’t see the joinery, how his sprawling, demanding acres would fit against her neat, urban puzzle.

“It must be…” she searched for the word, her fingers splaying over the hard plane of his chest. “A lot. The ranch, the competitions. All of it.”

“The gift and the burden,” he murmured, catching her hand and kissing her palm. “Yeah. It’s a dawn-to-midnight thing most days. But it’s mine.” He looked at her, his blue eyes earnest in the half-light. “I’m in Virginia for circuits a few times a year. I’ll always see you when I’m here, if you’ll have me.”

He paused, his voice softening. “And if you ever get vacation time… I’d love to have you in Colorado. You could meet Thor properly. See the land.”

The offer hung there, beautiful and immense. It felt like being handed a map to a foreign country. She swallowed, the practicalities colliding with a fierce, new want. “When do you leave?” she asked, needing the boundary.

“Tomorrow afternoon.” The words were quiet. A clock started ticking softly in the room.

She processed it. This night, these hours, were all they had. The complexity dissolved, burned away by that stark, simple fact. A slow, wicked smile curved her lips. She leaned into him, her mouth finding the shell of his ear. Her tongue traced its curve before she sucked the lobe gently between her teeth.

She felt the sharp intake of his breath, the instant tension that rippled through his entire frame. “You better fuck me fast, then,” she whispered, the words a hot, deliberate promise against his skin.

He let out a choked laugh, a sound of pure delight and surrender. In one fluid motion, he rolled, pulling her beneath him. His smile was a white flash in the darkness. What happened next wasn’t frantic. It was pure, undiluted sensuality.

His mouth was on hers, hungry and deep, as his hands relearned her body. There was no hurry, only a profound, focused reclamation. Her palms slid over the tight corded muscle of his back, the heat of his skin like a brand. He kissed the hollow of her throat, the slope of her breast, his stubble a delicious abrasion. She arched into him, every nerve ending singing a chorus only he had composed.

Time stretched and melted. It was the slide of her leg over his hip, the firm grasp of his hand on her thigh. The press of his hardness against her belly, a blunt, seeking heat. It was the sound of her name, groaned into the sweat-damp skin between her breasts. He moved down her body with a reverent slowness that made her tremble.

His mouth found her again, not with the frantic hunger of before, but with a lavish, torturous devotion. She cried out, her hands fisting in the sheets, as he built the pleasure with a painter’s meticulous strokes. He drew another shuddering peak from her, her hips lifting off the mattress in a silent plea.

Only then did he rise over her, bracing himself on his arms. His eyes held hers, a stormy blue question. She answered by reaching between them, guiding him to her entrance. He pushed in, just an inch, a sweet, unbearable pressure.

She gasped, her head falling back. It was the gasp of perfect alignment, of a lock accepting its key. He filled her completely, a slow, sweet conquest that stretched and burned in the best possible way. He began to move, and the world beyond the motel room, beyond tomorrow, ceased to exist.
