Chapter 1: Introduction
The dawn's pale light broke through the veil of fog that enveloped the battlefield, revealing a panorama of destruction as far as the eye could see. In this desolate landscape, strewn with the remnants of war, warriors clad in armor stood tall and defiant despite the scars of battle etched into their souls. Amongst them were Duncan Hunter and Serina Centaurus, two formidable fighters whose paths had crossed amidst the chaos.
Duncan, a human warrior of exceptional prowess, surveyed the battlefield with steely determination.
He was a man of few words, preferring to let his actions speak louder than any boastful claim. His dark brown hair was matted with sweat and grime, and his piercing blue eyes held an unwavering resolve that betrayed an inner turmoil few knew existed.
Serina, a fearsome centauro warrior, regarded Duncan across the tumultuous divide that separated them. Her long, golden-blonde hair hung in disarray around her face, framing her emerald green eyes that burned with conviction.
An unspoken challenge seemed to hang between them, as if both knew they would eventually cross swords - or worse. Yet, even amidst the violence and death surrounding them, there was something undeniably compelling about each other.
"So, you're the one they call 'Duncan Hunter,'" Serina finally spoke, her voice resonant with authority. "I've heard tales of your exploits."
Duncan met her gaze without flinching. "And I've heard tell of the mighty Serina Centaurus," he replied coolly.
"They say your strength rivals that of the wildest beasts."
Serina smirked, her lips pulling back from sharp canines. "Is that all you've heard?" she retorted, her tone laced with a hint of arrogance. "That I'm some savage beast, incapable of anything more than brute force?"
Duncan shrugged nonchalantly, his eyes never leaving hers.
"I have seen many creatures in my time, Serina. Some more formidable than others. But it takes more than mere strength to truly make a mark upon history."
Serina's green eyes narrowed imperceptibly. "You dare question my abilities?" she growled, her voice low and dangerous. "I have fought in countless battles, vanquished numerous foes, and left none who stand against me alive."
"Then why do we find ourselves here now, locked in conflict?" Duncan countered, his voice steady and unwavering.
"The reason we stand here today is not because either of us sought it, but rather it was thrust upon us by forces beyond our control."
Serina's gaze bore into him like a physical touch, her emerald eyes flickering with an uncertain intensity. "Perhaps so," she conceded after a moment's silence. "But what makes you think that we cannot forge our own path amidst these trials?
