Chapter 1: Silk and Submission
The air in the bedroom was still and warm, carrying the subtle scent of sandalwood and her perfume. Jeanette stood by the foot of the enormous bed, feeling the cool, polished floorboards under her bare feet. She’d slipped off her shoes minutes ago. Now she watched Tom moving around the room, his movements deliberate and quiet.
He was lighting candles, one by one. Each new flame pushed back the velvet shadows a little more, revealing the deep crimson silk duvet, the dark wood of the carved bedposts. Her eyes traced the patterns on them—interlocking curves, knots that looked both decorative and functional.
“You’re staring,” he said, without turning around. His voice was a low rumble that vibrated in the quiet space.
“I’m taking inventory,” she replied, aiming for lightness. Her own voice sounded a breathy.
He finally glanced over his shoulder, a slow smile touching his lips. “And what’s the total?”
“One four-poster bed. Approximately… twelve candles. An intimidating number of silk ropes in that chest. And you.” She wrapped her arms around herself, not from cold, but from the sheer charge in the room. “You seem very focused.”
Tom turned, the candlelight carving planes of shadow and gold on his face. The silver in his hair glinted. He’d rolled his sleeves up to his elbows, revealing the corded strength of his forearms. He looked, as he always did, completely in command of the space he occupied.
“I am focused,” he agreed, walking toward her. He didn’t touch her, not yet. He just stood close enough that she could feel the heat from his body. “This matters. You matter. So yes, I’m focused.”
He reached out and smoothed a strand of blonde hair behind her ear, his thumb brushing her cheek. The gesture was so tender it made her heart squeeze.
“You remember the rules we talked about?” he asked.
Jeanette nodded, swallowing. “The safe word. Green, yellow, red. Red stops everything.”
“And?”
“And… I tell you the truth. Even if it’s embarrassing.”
“Especially if it’s embarrassing,” he corrected gently. “That’s where the good stuff hides.” His piercing blue eyes held hers. “Trust isn’t just about letting me tie a knot. It’s about letting me see you. All of you.”
She believed him. That was the strange, wonderful anchor in all this. She’d spent forty-five years being sensible, being the comforter, the caretaker. With Tom, she got to explore the part of her that wanted to stop thinking, to just feel. It was terrifying. It was liberating.
“I trust you,” she said, and meaning it gave the words weight.
His smile deepened. “Good. Now, turn around. Let me see what you chose tonight.”
A flutter of nervous excitement went through her. This was part of their game, their preparation. She’d spent an absurd amount of time picking out her underwear, a secret homage to his confessed tastes. She turned, presenting her back to him, and listened to the soft sound of his exhale.
She was wearing a pale peach lace bodysuit, sheer stockings held up by a matching garter belt. The back was a scandalous dip of lace and skin. She’d known he’d like it.
“Beautiful,” he murmured. His fingers, warm and sure, traced the line of lace from the nape of her neck down her spine. She shivered. “The stockings. You remembered.”
“You might have mentioned a preference once or twice,” she said, trying for a teasing tone, but it came out husky.
He chuckled, the sound close to her ear. “A preference. That’s one way to put it.” His hands settled on her hips, turning her back to face him. His gaze was dark, appreciative, ownership and admiration all at once. “You wear it for you, or for me?”
“Both,” she breathed. “I like how it feels. I love how you look at me when I wear it.”
“Honest.” He leaned in, his lips a breath from hers. “I’m going to reward that honesty.”
The kiss was slow, deep, and thorough. It was a claiming, but a patient one. When he pulled back, her head was spinning. He guided her backward until her calves hit the side of the bed.
“Sit.”
She sat on the edge of the crimson silk, the material cool and slippery. He knelt before her, a position that should have felt submissive, but with Tom, it never did. It felt ritualistic. He took her right foot in his hands, his thumbs pressing into her arch through the fine nylon.
Her breath hitched. The focus he gave to this, to just her foot, was intensely erotic. He studied it, massaged it, his touch firm and knowing. He bent and pressed a kiss to her instep, the warmth of his mouth searing through the sheer material. A bolt of pure desire shot straight to her core.
“Tom…”
“Shhh.” He looked up, his eyes blazing. “This is part of it. The attention. The patience. You’re not used to being the sole object of it, are you? You’re used to giving it away.”
He was right. She gave a tiny, helpless shake of her head.
“Tonight, you receive.” He reached beside him and picked up a coil of soft, cream-colored rope. It was silk-blend, he’d explained earlier, smooth and strong. “Give me your wrists.”
Her pulse hammered in her throat as she extended her arms. He took her left wrist first, his movements methodical. He looped the rope in a practiced pattern, not too tight, but firm. The sensation was strange—a confinement, a commitment. She watched, mesmerized, as his capable hands wound the rope, securing her wrists together with a knot that looked complex and beautiful.
“How does that feel?” he asked, testing the give.
“Secure,” she whispered. “Weird. Good.”
He guided her to lie back, her bound hands resting above her head on the silk pillows. The position arched her back, thrust her breasts against the lace of the bodysuit. She felt utterly exposed, utterly vulnerable. The fluttering in her stomach was pure adrenaline.
He stood, looking down at her, a master surveyng his canvas. His gaze was heated, but controlled. “There you are,” he said softly. “Now we begin.”
He trailed a single finger down her body, from the hollow of her throat, over the swell of her breast, down the quivering plane of her stomach. He stopped at the top of her stocking, where the lace of the garter met her thigh. He hooked his finger under the elastic.
“This,” he said, his voice a low scrape, “drives me out of my mind.” He traced the line where nylon met skin, back and forth, a maddeningly light touch. “The suggestion of it. The reality of it. The sound it makes.”
He ran his palm up the length of her nylon-clad leg, and the quiet whisssh was, absurdly, one of the sexiest things she’d ever heard. Her legs trembled.
“You’re shaking,” he observed.
“I can’t help it.”
“I know.” He leaned over, bracing his weight on his arms, caging her in. His face was inches from hers. “The goal tonight isn’t an orgasm, Jeanette. The goal is sensation. The goal is to feel every single thing I do to you, to stay right here in this heated, aching space with me. Can you do that?”
She wanted to come. The ache between her legs was a persistent throb already. But the intensity in his eyes promised something more.
“I can try.”
“That’s all I ask.” He kissed her again, hard and possessive, then his mouth began to wander. Down her neck, to the lace covering her breasts. He used his teeth, gently, on the peaked nipple beneath the lace. She cried out, her bound hands flexing.
His touch was everywhere and nowhere, charting a torturous, exquisite path. He worshipped her stockinged legs, kissing and nibbling from her ankles to her thighs, avoiding the place she desperately wanted his mouth. He explored the dip of her navel, the sensitive skin of her inner arms. He was building a map of her arousal, and she was losing the ability to think.
Time dissolved into a haze of sensation and the flicker of candlelight. The silk of the rope, the slide of silk on her skin, the scratch of his stubble, the warm pressure of his hands. She was a instrument, and he was playing her with relentless patience.
He finally slid a hand between her legs, over the damp lace of the bodysuit. She arched off the bed with a gasp.
“Please, Tom.”
He rubbed, slowly, through the fabric. The pressure was delicious, agonizing. “Please what?”
“I need… I can’t…”
“You can.” He increased the pressure, his eyes locked on hers, watching her unravel. “You’re staying right here with me. Feel it. Burn with it.”
She was teetering on an edge, a coiled spring. Just as the first wave of her release began to gather, he stopped. Completely. He removed his hand.
A sob of frustration broke from her lips. She was panting, her body screaming.
He shushed her, brushing damp hair from her forehead. “Patience,” he whispered. From the bedside drawer, he produced a small, sleek black vibrator. He pressed it against her, still over the lace. The low, immediate buzz made her jolt. “This stays on. I control the intensity. You don’t come until I say. Understand?”
It was a question, but also a command. She was so far gone, so deep in the submissive space he’d expertly crafted, that there was only one answer.
“Yes,” she breathed.
“Yes, what?”
She met his stormy eyes, a new understanding dawning through the pleasurable fog. This was the surrender. This was the gift.
“Yes, Sir.”
The word hung in the air, profound and right. A slow, satisfied smile spread across his face.
“Good girl,” he said, and turned the vibrator up a notch.
