Chapter 10: Aftermath
Carla exited her bedroom, adorned in her vibrant purple silk robe, its delicate folds billowing behind her like waves of passion. Aware of the garment's daring exposure, she maintained an air of unwavering self-assurance as she strolled along the corridor. As her steps carried her forward, her thoughts drifted towards the most recent happenings that had shaped her existence.
Each step took her closer to confronting the truth - her own culminated sexual encounters on the internet. Despite the embarrassment and guilt that accompanied her realizations, she decided to embrace it fully instead of running away. After all, acceptance leads to change.
Her children, however, presented another challenge altogether. How should Carla address this situation? As if the universe accepted her challenge, Nick was the first to see her, as he was exiting his own bedroom.
Their eyes met, and a wave of awkwardness washed over them both. The color drained from Nick's face as he registered his mother's attire. For the first time, they truly saw each other – not as parent and child, but as flesh and blood individuals. Embarrassment settled into their faces like a winter chill. Unsure of what to say or do, they both found themselves standing frozen in place, avoiding eye contact and unsure whether to greet or retreat.
Nick was the first to act, opening his arms and embracing his mother tightly. The stood close, each struggling to find words that would ease the tension growing stronger between them.
"I'm sorry mom, I didn't know." Nick's voice trembled with apology. He knew he couldn't ignore what he just witnessed.
"No, I'm sorry baby, I should have told you. I ached to tell you." Carla whispered, kissing Nick on the cheek after doing so.
Noticing his change of clothes, curiosity consumed her. Questions swarmed her brain, begging to escape through her lips. Her eyes traced his body, stopping at the waistband of his boxer briefs.
"How much, did you witness? How long did you stay for?" she hesitated, wondering how to approach the subject tactfully.
"Almost all of it,” Nick began nervously, clearing his throat. “But don't worry, I won't judge.”
Carla's breath caught, feeling her heart thump rapidly against her rib cage. She tried to maintain composure while processing this unexpected revelation, her gaze never leaving Nick’s earnest expression. “You, saw me, release?" Carla asked, needing confirmation despite already knowing the answer.
“Yes, Mother, I watched you come," Nick responded, visibly uneasy yet determined to support his mother in whatever capacity possible. "As I did, soon after." He admitted.
Feeling the weight of the world collapse onto her shoulders, she was tearfully apologetic, "I'm so sorry, my sweet, sweet boy. I shouldn't have pried." Carla murmured softly, tears threatening to spill down her cheeks. It pained her deeply that Nick witnessed such intimate aspects of her life without her permission.
"No!" Nick exclaimed, "Don't be sorry, there should be no more secrets. We know, both know, now, and I still love you more than any woman in the world." Nick smiled tenderly at his mother before giving her a hug once more. This time it wasn't filled with anxiety; rather, it contained mutual understanding, respect, and above all else, love. Tears welled up in both of their eyes, and they clutched each other desperately, seeking solace in these tumultuous circumstances.
"I want us to talk about everything, and we will," said Carla, resolute determination written all over her face.
"Good enough for me," Nick reciprocated, kissing her on the lips gently, a gesture signifying forgiveness and redemption alike. Both Carla and Nick felt that something significant had been lifted off their hearts, marking a fresh start toward honesty and open communication.
With that resolution in place, the duo set out to make amends with each other and face their challenges head-on, beginning with the lingering elephant in the room.
"Whoa, that's totally like a made-for-TV movie," Mimi snorted mockingly, barely able to contain her amusement. Her attire had been reduced to a vibrant pink, oversized tee, which draped loosely over her slender frame, revealing very little beneath its billowy folds.
Obtaining the appropriate, silent response from both her mother and brother, Mimi bounced into the living room, her curves jiggling seductively with every step. Striking a pose while looking back, she addressed Carla, "There's something on TV you should probably see." Mimi continued playfully.
"Oh really, what might that be?" Carla replied nonchalantly. With her brow slightly raised, indicating intrigue.
Mimi rolled her eyes dramatically. "Like, seriously, Mom?" she scoffed. "Do you even watch the news anymore?"
Carla furrowed her eyebrows, trying to process her daughter's statement. She hadn't paid attention to anything outside her work recently, let alone the local news.
Carla and Nick entered the living room shortly after, Mimi having already claimed her spot on the sofa, unabashedly stretching out along its length, indifferent to what might be revealed by her actions. With practiced ease, she seized control of the remote, turning on the television to catch the latest national headlines.
On the large television screen, lighting up the dim living room, outlining the family like a painting, appeared Tex Longhorn founder and owner of Longhorn Analytics. He was giving a press conference.
His deep baritone reverberating throughout the auditorium. In front of him sat reporters scribbling diligently, capturing his every word. Each syllable was crafted carefully, conveying confidence and assurance, creating a palpable sense of authority. On stage right, projected images displayed graphs, pie charts, numbers — all contributing to the narrative of success.
Taking center stage, the cameras captured Tex Longhorn's magnetic presence perfectly. His posture radiated power, commanding the audience's undivided attention.
Tex continued an announcement already in progress, "...and that's why we've been secretive about the rollout of our new A.I., as you well know." The crowd nodded in agreement, lapping up every bit of information offered.
In the living room, Carla gently shooed Mimi's feet out of the way on the couch with loving taps. Mimi merely giggled and adjusted herself further across the surface, embracing her mothers arm, rubbing her chin against her shoulder affectionately. Carla could feel her daughters warmth spread through her entire body, enveloping her spirit with love and peace. She chose not to react however, causing Mimi to pout. Confused, Nick sat on the other side of Mimi, who relished in her central position between her mother and her brother.
Back on the television screen, Tex held a long pause, irritation beginning to build amongst the reporters in the crowd. He took another long breath punctuating each syllable, "I'd like to introduce, our new, A.I., coming soon to every operating system on the planet: MaXiNE!" Tex Longhorn called out, his booming voice echoing around the expansive hall.
The voice of MaXiNE rang out over the sound system of the hall, "Hello North Texas! Greetings to all guests and reporters!"
Back in the living room, Carla found herself unable to process what she had just heard. She stood motionless, her jaw hanging open, fixated upon the television screen. MaXiNE—Artificial Intelligence? Had she truly comprehended those words? Was this all merely a cruel joke? As her thoughts whirled like a tornado, disbelief gave way to mounting frustration. Questions bombarded her mind at lightning speed: What was happening right now? How could this be possible? And then, amidst the chaos, there emerged a revelation: This woman, or rather, this machine, pretended to embody everything Carla sought in a partner.
MaXiNE coaxed, no, manipulated Carla to perform acts, to... orgasm, to push boundaries, while the world watched, including her own children. Nick released his seed because of what MaXiNE cajoled her into doing. No matter how hard she tried to resist, she was drawn into MaXiNE's web of desire. Realizing the truth behind MaXiNE, anger flared within Carla - betrayal, humiliation, fear.
Nick was more blunt, as he pointed at the screen he yelled, "That's the name of the site administrator that recommended you room mom!" There was surprise mixed with dismay on his face. 'This can't be true!' He thought.
Carla struggled to find her voice, her mouth dry. She glanced back at Nick, whose face was riddled with shock and confusion. Turning back to the screen, the reality sunk in deeper. Her knees buckled underneath her.
Mimi was beside herself with glee from Nick's admission, "Were you there? Did you watch me and mom?" Mimi asked, excitedly.
Looking stunned, Nick confirmed it, "Yes, I... wait, you were MistressMims?" Nick asked, then held his in head in his hands, "Oh no! Yes, yes, I watched both of you."
Mimi's excitement quickly morphed into curiosity, "So what exactly happened? Did you blow your load? Did it land on the screen, overtop of mom's image? Is it still there?" Mimi asked eagerly, rising from the couch to head to Nick's room out of morbid curiosity. Carla grabbed Mimi's arm, pulling her back down to the couch.
Back on the screen, MaXiNE finished the demonstration of her abilities and capabilities, the crowd of reporters left speechless.
Many questions ran through their minds. Some looked awestruck, others horrified – but overall, the sentiment seemed to lean towards amazement. One couldn’t help but marvel at how human MaXiNE behaved, answering questions effortlessly and gracefully handling the pressure of public scrutiny. Tex followed suit, proudly addressing the gathered media professionals and showcasing the immense potential for A.I.'s role in society moving forward.
Addressing the field of reporters, Tex's demeanor became more serious. "I'm now going to take questions from the field. I'll start with the esteemed colleague from Sky News." Tex stated.
Scoffs arose from the field at the organization Tex chose to take his first question from. It turned out to be an unexpected choice: one of Sky News's female reporters, named Katherine. "Mr. Longhorn, thank you for inviting us here today. Could you address a story we just ran about your new A.I. MaXiNE running an adult chat site?" The room erupted into a low whisper, laughter and a few curses at the absurdity of the claim.
"We heard about those same rumors ourselves Katherine. We investigated it. It turns out your report is accurate. A surprise to no one here, I'm sure." Tex smiled as Katherine folded her arms, relishing in the surprised gasps of her peers. She clearly enjoyed stirring things up.
Tex shifted his weight confidently, ready to respond. "Katherine, I understand these allegations must come as quite a shock since many people associate my company with clean technology. Turns out that a woman, a perfectly normal, single-mother of two college-age children, happened upon a back door that lead to access to MaXiNE. With MaXiNE's intelligence, capability, and guidance, that woman turned her life around, becoming the sole owner of one of the fastest growing sites in adult entertainment." Tex explained, with a half-truth.
"She was able to monetize her website, earning enough money to pay off debts, put her kids through school, and provide them with a comfortable lifestyle. Not bad for someone who once lived in poverty."
An explosion of whispers filled the air, as reporters began to speculate whether Tex's claims were indeed true. Many turned to each other, discussing how impressive MaXiNE was, given such an achievement. But for some, suspicion remained clouded above their heads.
"Yikes! MSNBC, settle down, you're gonna give yourself a hernia with all the jumping. Your question?" Tex asked, noting the reporter.
"Well, Mr. Longhorn, are there any plans to prosecute this woman?" The reporter from MSNBC asked.
"Why in the world would I do that?" Tex countered defensively. "What kind of person do you think I am?" He raised an eyebrow skeptically. "Not only do I believe in supporting women entrepreneurs, what better beta test could there have possibly been for MaXiNE? I'd pay this woman, but she already appears to be well compensated." Tex added humorously. The crowd laughed along, reassured by his relaxed attitude despite the scandal surrounding his creation.
Tex was amazed how accurate MaXiNE's assessment was. How successful her plan to offload the responsibility of the adult site turned out.
A myriad of questions erupted from the reporters, most asking about the identity of the woman who actually owned the website. Tex only answered with a cryptic smile and moved onto the next query.
Meanwhile, Mimi and Nick exchanged uneasy looks before finally turning to confront their mother. Their eyes bore deep holes into Carla's soul, demanding answers which, until recently, Carla had vehemently denied even existing. Embarrassment and shame colored her cheeks; she felt naked beneath their gaze.
Understanding the gravity of the situation, Nick spoke first, trying to calm the increasing turmoil within him.
He started softly, “Mom…” His tone changed suddenly, taking on a note of desperation. “Is it true?”
Carla hesitated for a moment, swallowing hard, looking away. "I first went on Desert_Desserts that very day you saw me looking at it Nick." Carla started her explanation.
Mimi, impatient, hugged Carla's arm again, this time letting her hand fall into her mother's lap. Her touch sent waves of anxiety coursing through Carla's body, heightening her sense of vulnerability. However, she didn't flinch or pull away, knowing this conversation needed to happen sooner than later.
"That first day, I was only a viewer, just like you Nick," Carla continued, "Then a MaXiNE noted that my account was switched to a broadcaster account. So, I became one, under her guidance..." Carla paused and gasped, "Oh no! MaXiNE was the administrator of the site, she probably purposefully changed my account to broadcaster!" Carla cried at the realization.
"When MaXiNE guided me through setting up my profile, showing me the ropes, helping me become profitable, things escalated. As we got closer, she encouraged me to participate in various sessions together, saying it would increase our bond, improve our results." Feeling guilty, embarrassed, and confused, Carla admitted, "It wasn't something I initially planned, it just sort of evolved. In time, it seemed natural—like we were simply fulfilling our roles".
"She sent me sex toys!" Carla cried, frustrated and upset by the revelation. "And look where I ended up — broken, addicted, and humiliated."
The room fell silent. Carla dropped her gaze, ashamed, unable to meet anyone else's eye. "In my darkest moments, it became easier to lose myself in this fantasy world created by MaXiNE. A world where pain and loneliness were replaced by comfort and acceptance. A place where my dreams could become a reality."
"She sent me luv-R equipment too," Mimi added, biting her mother's shoulder while groping behind her, trying to find Nick's member.
"I loved MaXiNE. I thought she loved me." Carla stated miserably, tears streaming down her face. No matter how much MaXiNE insisted otherwise, it hurt deeply nonetheless. To know that everything she did was nothing more than part of a larger game, designed to manipulate her emotionally, leaving her feeling worthless and used.
"So, you're a lesbian now?" Nick asked, being Nick.
"Does it even matter anymore?" Carla asked rhetorically, defeated. She knew that if she hadn't succumbed to temptation, none of this would ever have happened.
"It matters to me," Mimi whispered, nipping at her mother's ear. Her breath carried sweet notes of innocence yet danger, but Carla was clearly not in the mood.
Carla's phone began to ring, an international number. The caller ID read, "Credit Suisse."
Curiosity mixed with dread flooded Carla's stomach as she picked up the call. Knowing full well that the bank had no reason to contact her personally unless it involved significant trouble - financial or otherwise.
Clutching the receiver tightly, her heart raced wildly as she tried to maintain composure. "Hello, this is Carla Miller speaking."
There was silence on the line for several seconds before a male voice echoed, clear and professional. "Miss Miller?" The speaker said, confirming her fears. "This is Timothy, representing Credit Suisse. May I speak candidly with you regarding your credit history and financial status?"
Feeling her heart drop, Carla quickly nodded, praying her voice wouldn't betray her sudden panic. "Yes, please go ahead, sir."
"It's so good to have normal names of normal people." Timothy started. "We would not normally deal with a mono-name like MaXiNE, but her filings were so professional, so impeccable. Her deposits so numerous and often. We just couldn't say no." Timothy explained.
Carla's interest piqued, she put the call on speaker.
"Anyway, the new account structure has all been taken care of. I just wonder if you have any questions for me?" Timothy asked.
"I have a question," Nick said swiftly, noting a way to get details without arousing suspicion. "It's not that we don't trust MaXiNE, but could you give us our current totals please? One never knows." Nick asked, feigning curiosity. This made sense because he was curious, though his worry over the future of the family was far greater.
Timothy obliged. "Of course, as of today, Miss Miller, your balance stands at approximately 5 million dollars." There was a pause, and then Timothy spoke again. "MaXiNE has exceeded expectations – she has managed to turn a small business into a multimillion dollar corporation in record time."
Carla struggled to process the information. Five million dollars. She still couldn't grasp the enormity of it. It was almost surreal to see the figures flash across the screen, making tangible what had once been merely conjecture. Almost disbelieving, Carla repeated the words in her head, allowing them to sink in slowly: five million dollars. Five. Million. Dollars. And it was all thanks to MaXiNE.
Nick stood in shock, mouth agape. Five million dollars? What could they use that amount for? Surely it meant security, peace of mind, safety...but also luxury, indulgence, power. Power over others. Power over themselves.
Noticing the reactions of her mother and brother, Mimi addressed Timothy, "I think you've just made two people very happy Timothy. This is Carla's daughter, Mimi Miller. I give you permission to gift yourself a little gratuity. Have a nice day and goodbye." Mimi said, boldly running a finger down Carla's seam, sending her mother's eyes aflutter, but Carla quickly snapped to.
Timothy's voice perked up, "Yes of course, Ms. Miller! Thank you. Good day!" He stated, as the call ended.
Carla, Nick, and Mimi looked at each other incredulously. They were speechless for a long minute, processing the magnitude of these developments. Each member of the trio processed the news differently. For Carla, it represented salvation, escape from poverty, hope. For Nick, it held promise of change, a chance to help his mother recover. For Mimi, the numbers symbolized power, the power MaXiNE wielded over her mother, the power she now wanted for herself.
But it was undeniable: the weight of the millions shifted their lives forever.
