Chapter 1: Introduction

The night was edged with a chill that was hardly noticeable through the roar of my bike. I loved riding, loved the way the wind whipped my curls around my face and the way the city lights blurred into a stream of colors. It was the only time I felt truly free, like I could just keep going and never look back.

I pulled up to Ethan's apartment, cutting the engine. The building was a run-down, brick monstrosity with peeling paint and a rusty fire escape that looked like it hadn't seen a paint job since the Reagan administration. I loved it.

There was something about places like this that drew me in. The lived-in, untidy reality of it all. It was a far cry from the sleek, glass buildings downtown where my classmates at the university lived, but it felt more real, more authentic.

I swung my leg off the bike, grabbing the pizza box from the basket. The heat of the cheese seeped through the cardboard, warming my hands. I made my way to the door, the concrete steps creaking beneath my boots. The air was thick with the scent of pepperoni and the faint hum of a nearby street lamp.

I knocked on the door, the sound echoing through the narrow hallway. After a moment, it swung open, revealing Ethan. He was shirtless, dressed only in a pair of worn-out trunks, and I couldn't help but take a moment to appreciate the view. His body was toned and tanned, with a smattering of hair across his chest that tapered into a happy trail leading down to... well, I let my gaze linger there for a moment before forcing myself to look up. His eyes met mine, a spark of amusement in their depths.

He leaned against the doorframe, one hand casually resting on the frame, the other on his hip. I felt his gaze like a physical touch, a slow slide down my body, lingering on my bare legs and the short skirt that left little to the imagination. The heat from the pizza box was nothing compared to the sudden flush that spread across my cheeks.

I could feel Ethan's gaze like a tangible thing, and I had to concentrate to keep my voice steady. "I've got your order here, Ethan," I said, holding up the pizza box, my free hand gripping it tightly. "One large pepperoni, extra cheese, just like you asked."

As I handed Ethan the pizza box, our fingers brushed briefly. It was an innocent touch, but it sent a jolt of electricity through me. I could feel the sexual tension like a live wire between us, humming and sparking. Ethan's gaze flicked to mine, and I saw the same electricity reflected in his eyes. He smirked, a slow, knowing curve of his lips that made my stomach dip.

I quickly broke the connection, stepping back and crossing my arms over my chest. "So, uh, that'll be—" I consulted the receipt, my fingers brushing against the edge of my sports bra. "—eighteen ninety-five, please."

I finished, handing him the receipt, trying to ignore the way his gaze lingered on my bare shoulders.

Ethan looked down at the receipt, then back to me, a sheepish grin spreading across his face. "Shit, sorry Lily, I don't seem to have my wallet on me. Must've left it in the bedroom." He started patting his pockets, the movement making the muscles in his chest shift and flex. I tried to look away, but it was like watching a car crash—I just couldn't help but stare.

"No worries," I said, forcing myself to focus on the task at hand. "I can hold onto the pizza while you go get it."

"Nah, don't bother," Ethan waved me off, stepping aside to let me in. "Come on in, make yourself at home.

Damn, it's hot tonight, isn't it?" Ethan mused, as he started rummaging through the pile of clothes scattered across his couch. "You know what, you're the hottest thing in here right now." He glanced over his shoulder, a smirk playing at the corner of his lips, "And trust me, there's some stiff competition."

I felt my cheeks flush again at his compliment, but I couldn't help the small smile that tugged at the corners of my mouth. "Yeah, well, you're not so bad yourself," I admitted, looking around his apartment. The place was a mess, but it had a certain charm to it. It was lived-in, comfortable. Real.

Ethan's gaze flicked back to me, his eyes lingering on my legs before meeting mine.

"Sorry about this, by the way," he said, throwing a pair of jeans aside in frustration. "I'm not usually this scatterbrained."

Ethan chuckled, continuing his futile search. "Maybe I should just order a new wallet, save myself the trouble."

Lily shrugged, trying to look nonchalant as she scanned the room. "You could do that, or... you could maybe just pay me later," she offered, her gaze darting back to Ethan. "If you, you know, give me something in return." She spoke casually, as if she were suggesting they grab a coffee together. But the air between them thickened, charged with new tension.

Ethan paused, straightening up from his search. He turned to face her, a slow smile spreading across his face. "And what exactly are you thinking?" he asked, taking a step towards her. His eyes never left hers, and she could feel the heat of his gaze like a physical touch.

Lily felt a thrill of excitement and nervousness.

She'd never done this before, never propositioned a customer like this. But there was something about Ethan, something about the way he looked at her, that made her feel bold and daring. She met his gaze, her own eyes challenging, hungry.

"I thought maybe you could make it up to me," she said, her voice steady despite the flutter of nerves in her stomach. "You know, since you can't pay me right now."

Ethan raised an eyebrow, his smirk growing wider. "Make it up to you, huh?

You mean like this?" Ethan asked, his eyes sparkling with amusement and something darker, something more dangerous. He closed the distance between them in a few quick strides, his hand reaching up to tuck a loose strand of hair behind her ear. His fingers lingered, tracing the shell of her ear, sending a shiver down her spine.

Lily felt her heart pounding in her chest, her breath coming in short gasps. She could feel the heat of his body, the electricity of his touch. She knew she should step back, should put some distance between them, but she couldn't make herself move. She was frozen, captivated by the intensity in his eyes.

"Is that what you want?" he murmured, his voice low and husky. His hand moved from her ear to her cheek, his thumb brushing against her skin. She could feel the roughness of his calluses, the heat of his touch.

She felt her body responding to his nearness, her heart pounding in her chest like a drumbeat. She took a step closer to him, feeling his warmth radiate from his naked, muscular skin. Her nod was barely perceptible, a subtle tilt of her chin, a silent agreement to the unspoken question in his eyes. The air between them thickened, charged with a new kind of electricity, one that crackled with anticipation and desire.

Ethan's hand slipped from her cheek, his fingers brushing against her collarbone, before trailing down to her arms, gently pulling her closer. She could feel the heat of his chest against her, the firmness of his body pressing against hers. She let out a soft sigh, her eyes fluttering closed for a moment as she savored the sensation. When she opened them again, she found Ethan's gaze on her, intense and hungry.

Her heart pounded in her chest like a drum, echoing the sudden thud of the blood rushing in her ears. Before she could say or do anything, Ethan leaned in, his hand cupping her cheek, his thumb brushing against her skin. His lips met hers, soft and warm, yet firm and demanding at the same time. The kiss was a question and an answer all at once, a sudden burst of heat that sent a shiver down her spine.

Lily froze for a moment, taken aback by the suddenness of it all. But as Ethan's lips moved against hers, she found herself responding, her lips parting, her body leaning into his. She could taste the pepperoni on his breath, could feel the roughness of his calluses against her skin.

Ethan's hand slid down her back, his fingers tracing the curve of her spine, sending a jolt of electricity through her. Lily's breath hitched in her chest, her body tensing as a wave of heat washed over her. Her mind was a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions, but her body was on fire, responding to his touch, his kiss, his presence.

As Ethan's hand reached the small of her back, he pulled her closer, his other hand tangling in her hair, tilting her head to deepen the kiss. The pizza box, still clutched in her hand, was suddenly forgotten, discarded on the nearby coffee table. Her free hand found its way to his chest, her fingers splaying across the hard planes of his muscles, feeling the heat of his skin beneath her touch.

She let out a soft gasp as his hand, which had been tracing the curve of her spine, ventured further, slipping under the hem of her short skirt. The sudden intimate contact sent a shiver of excitement and nervousness down her spine, causing her to momentarily falter in the kiss.

Ethan pulled back just enough to look into her eyes, his hand pausing under her skirt, awaiting her reaction. The air between them was thick with tension, the moment charged with a mixture of anticipation and uncertainty. He searched her face, his eyes filled with a mix of desire and concern, as if he were giving her the chance to change her mind.

Lily held his gaze, her heart pounding in her chest like a drum. She could feel the heat of his hand beneath her skirt, the roughness of his calluses against her thigh, and she knew that she wanted this, wanted him.

She leaned into him, her hand finding its way to his hair, her fingers tangling in the soft strands at the nape of his neck. He felt her touch, his body responding to the intimate contact, his breath hitching in his chest. Their eyes met, the moment heavy with anticipation and unspoken promises.

"Is this what you want, Lily?" Ethan murmured, his voice low and husky, his lips mere inches from hers. There was a question in his eyes, a silent plea for her to confirm what her body was already telling him. She could feel the weight of his gaze, the intensity of his stare, and she knew that she had to respond, had to give him an answer. She nodded, her hand tightening in his hair, a silent signal for him to continue, to take control.
