Chapter 1: Introduction

The dim glow of the office lights reflected off Tom's keyboard as he typed away, his fingers dancing over the keys with the rhythm of a metronome. He was in the zone, that sweet spot where time seemed to slow down and thoughts flowed like a stream of consciousness. Beside him, Sarah rustled a few papers, her chair creaking softly as she shifted in her seat. He glanced at her, catching a glimpse of her profile, illuminated by the light of her laptop screen. Her hair was pulled back into a loose bun, a few strands framing her face.

She looked tired, but there was a hint of a smile playing on her lips. Tom smiled back, his heart swelling with affection. He loved this woman, her sweet demeanor, her kind heart. They'd been together for years, their love a comfortable, well-worn sweater.

Suddenly, Sarah's phone buzzed, startling them both. She picked it up, her eyes scanning the screen. Her smile faded, replaced by a look of hesitation.

"Everything okay?" Tom asked, concern furrowing his brow.

Sarah bit her lip, looking at the phone. "It's just... Daniel. From work.

From... Daniel. The name sent a shiver down Sarah's spine, a mix of anticipation and guilt. She hadn't expected to hear from him so soon, didn't know how to feel about it. Tom noticed her discomfort, his gaze softening with concern.

"Daniel? From work?" he asked, his voice steady. He knew about Daniel, of course. Sarah had mentioned him casually, a new colleague, a friend. Nothing more.

Sarah nodded, her fingers drumming on the desk. "He wants to grab drinks after work. Says it's been too long."

Too long.

Fuck." Sarah murmured, her heart pounding in her chest. "I mean, we've only worked together for a month."

Tom's eyes narrowed slightly, a flicker of something unreadable crossing his face. "Well, don't let me keep you from catching up with an old friend." He offered her a smile, but it felt forced, even to him. "Go on. Have fun."

Sarah hesitated, then nodded, standing up quickly. She grabbed her bag, slinging it over her shoulder. "I'll see you later, okay?"

Tom smiled, but it didn't reach his eyes.

He watched Sarah leave, her heels clicking against the office floor, her ass swaying gently with each step. He didn't like this, not one bit. Daniel, his ass. He'd only met the guy once, at some company gathering, but there was something about him that rub Tom the wrong way. Too smooth, too confident. Too fucking charming.

He shook his head, trying to dislodge the thoughts. He trusted Sarah. He did. But still, the unease lingered, a gnawing feeling in the pit of his stomach.

Meanwhile, Sarah stepped out of the office building, the cool night air hitting her face.

She took a deep breath, her heart pounding in her chest. She shouldn't be doing this, she knew. But fuck, she wanted to. She wanted to see him, to talk to him, to feel his touch again.

Daniel was already at the bar, a small, intimate place with dim lights and a jazz band playing softly in the corner. He spotted her as soon as she walked in, his face breaking into a wide grin. He stood up, his drink in hand, and walked over to her.

"Sarah," he said, his voice low and husky. "You look...

amazing," he finished, his eyes raking over her, taking in her black dress that clung to her curves in all the right places. Sarah felt a flush creep up her cheeks, but she smiled, happy to see him too.

They ordered drinks, their conversation easy and flowing, like they'd never been apart. They laughed, they reminisced, they flirted, their bodies leaning in, their eyes locked. The air between them was thick with tension, a palpable energy that was impossible to ignore.

Sarah found herself watching Daniel's lips as he spoke, remembering the feel of them against hers. She licked her own lips, her breath hitching slightly.

She was playing with fire, she knew, but fuck, it felt good. Daniel noticed her gaze, his eyes darkening with desire. He reached out, his fingers gently tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. His touch sent a shiver down her spine, a jolt of electricity that made her hyper-aware of every inch of her skin.

"You know," he said, his voice dropping to a low rumble that sent a wave of heat through her, "I've been thinking about you all day."

Sarah's heart pounded in her chest. "Oh yeah?" she managed to whisper, her voice barely audible over the low hum of the bar.

Daniel's fingers traced the shell of her ear, his touch light yet electrifying. He leaned in, his breath hot on her neck, whispering, "I've been thinking about your lips, your taste, the way your body feels against mine."

Sarah's breath hitched, her chest rising and falling rapidly. She could feel the heat radiating off Daniel's body, could see the desire in his eyes. She wanted him, wanted this, more than she'd ever wanted anything.

"Fuck," Daniel muttered under his breath, as if he could read her mind. He stood up abruptly, his chair scraping loudly against the floor.

Sarah jumped slightly, her eyes wide with surprise.

"What are you doing?" she asked, her voice barely a whisper.

Daniel didn't answer. Instead, he reached out, grabbed her hand, and pulled her up from her seat. Sarah stumbled slightly, her drink splashing onto the table. She didn't care. She couldn't take her eyes off Daniel, his face flushed with desire, his eyes dark and intense.

He led her through the bar, his hand gripping hers tightly. Sarah could feel the heat of his touch, could feel her own heartbeat pulsing in her wrist.

She stumbled slightly as they moved, her high heels catching on the worn carpet. Daniel didn't seem to notice, his focus solely on the door at the end of the corridor. A door marked with the word 'Staff'.

He pushed it open, the hinges squeaking slightly, and pulled Sarah inside. It was a small room, barely bigger than a closet, filled with boxes and a single, old couch. But Daniel didn't seem to care about the clutter. He spun Sarah around, his hands grabbing her hips and pulling her close.

"Fuck, Sarah," he growled, his voice raw with desire.
