Chapter 2: Digital Betrayal
The ozone bite in the computer core was sharper than usual, a metallic tang that clung to the back of Sia Balio’s throat. She hunched over a flickering terminal, fingers flying across the holographic interface, her brow furrowed in concentration. Diagnostics scrolled past – power fluctuations in Hydroponics, a minor coolant leak in Engineering – routine noise. But her gut churned. That fucking uniform directive. Priority Alpha, my ass.
"Ergonomic and thermal efficiency studies," she muttered, mimicking the corporate drone-speak Elias’s fake message had used. "Bullshit." Her fingers danced, pulling up encrypted comm logs. She’d been suspicious since Thorne boarded, his quiet intensity feeling less like focus and more like… calculation. The girls laughed when she voiced it – "Paranoid, Sia!" – but she knew systems. And the comm logs felt wrong. Too clean. Too static.
She bypassed another layer of encryption, her custom code slicing through Galactic Dynamics’ laughable security like a hot knife through synth-butter. There. Buried deep. A data packet originating inside the ship, routed through a dozen ghost relays before masquerading as a Priority Alpha transmission from HQ. The signature wasn’t just static; it was copied. Perfectly replicated, but… stale. Like a recording played one too many times. And the origin point? Deck 1, Compartment A1. The Captain’s Quarters. Elias’s quarters.
A choked gasp escaped her lips. Cold dread washed over her, sharper than the core’s recycled air. He wasn’t just creepy; he was actively fucking with them. Forging corporate orders. Taking Anya’s quarters. Now this uniform crap… what was next? Her mind raced, picturing Elias’s intense eyes behind his glasses, that unnerving calm. She needed proof. Solid proof Anya couldn’t ignore, even with her corporate blinders on. She leaned closer, fingers poised to capture the data packet, to isolate the source code definitively.
The heavy durasteel hatch hissed open behind her.
Sia froze. The ozone smell intensified, mixed suddenly with the faint scent of clean synth-fabric and something else… something predatory. She didn’t need to turn. She knew.
"Working late, Specialist Balio?" Elias Thorne’s voice was smooth as lubricant oil, but it carried effortlessly over the server hum. He stepped into the cold blue glow, tall and lean, his shadow stretching long across the blinking panels. He adjusted his glasses with that familiar flick of his finger. "Core diagnostics usually wrap up by Gamma shift."
Sia swallowed, forcing her voice steady. "Just… double-checking some anomalies. Power fluctuations." She kept her eyes glued to the screen, praying he hadn’t seen what she’d been accessing. Elias ran his long fingers along her shoulder sending a shiver down Sia's spine.
"You really are the only smart one on the crew, huh?" he said in a condescending way. "Too bad none of the other girls will ever listen to anything you say, no matter what evidence you have on me. They think you are a ugly boring nerd who just wants attention. Do you really want to help them, when they hate you so much?"
His fingers lingered on her shoulder, a cold contrast to the sudden heat flooding her cheeks. “They call you ‘Circuit Sia’ behind your back, you know,” he murmured, his breath stirring the hair at her temple, ignoring her flinch. “Think your obsession with wires and code makes you frigid. Broken.” The server hum vibrated through the deck plating, a low thrum against Sia’s spine. His other hand slammed down beside her terminal, trapping her between the cold metal of the server bank and the unnerving heat of his body, the sharp scent of ozone mixing with the clean, predatory musk of him. “Anya thinks you’re just… extra work. An irritation she has to manage because you’re useful.”
Her breath hitched, the truth of his words hitting harder than his proximity. She saw their mocking smirks, heard the dismissive laughs echoing in the mess hall whenever she tried to point out anomalies. Circuit Sia. Useless outside her terminal. Unwanted. A surge of bitter resentment, hotter and sharper than fear, washed over her. Why should she protect them? Protect Anya, who’d just rolled over and given him her own damn captain’s quarters because of a fake memo? Fuck them. Fuck them all.
The heavy durasteel hatch hissed again, its pneumatic groan cutting through the tense silence. Captain Anya Petrova stood framed in the doorway, her usually crisp uniform looking slightly rumpled, her face a mask of confusion that quickly morphed into wide-eyed shock as she took in the scene – Sia pinned against the glowing blue servers, Elias looming over her, his body radiating dominance. “What… what the hell is going on here?” Anya demanded, her voice tight with forced authority that cracked on the last word. “Elias? Specialist Balio? Report!”
Elias didn’t turn. His intense gaze remained locked on Sia’s face, a cruel, knowing smirk playing on his lips. His hand slid from her shoulder down her arm, deliberate and possessive, sending another violent shiver through her. “The Specialist was just demonstrating a… critical system vulnerability, Captain,” he stated, his voice smooth and dangerously calm, utterly dismissive of Anya’s presence. He leaned in impossibly closer to Sia, his lips grazing her ear, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper only she could hear. “See? She walks right in. Oblivious. Weak. Why serve her when you can serve me? I see you, Sia. I see your mind. Your potential. Help me fuck them over. You know you want to. You know they deserve it.”
Anya took a step forward, outrage warring with confusion. “Unhand her immediately! That’s an order, Elias! What vulnerability? Explain yourself!” She sounded shrill, desperate. Gullible. Naive. Just like always.
Sia stared into Elias’s eyes, the cold blue server lights reflecting in his glasses, hiding nothing of the raw calculation, the dark amusement, the absolute control radiating from him. No man had ever looked at her like this. Not with contempt, not with pity, but with… appraisal. Recognition. Desire. The deep-seated resentment towards the girls who mocked her, the anger at Anya’s spinelessness, ignited a fierce, unexpected heat low in her belly. It coiled, tight and demanding, mingling with the fear into something primal. His dominance wasn’t just frightening; it was arousing. Unbearably so. He saw her worth, even if it was just as a tool. He paid attention. And the sheer, raw power he exuded, the way he dismissed Anya like she was nothing… it made her wet.
He was right. Fuck them.
"Oh just the normal vulnerabilities I find everyday that you love to ignore," Sia said, laughing. "Nothing you should worry your pretty little head about. Why aren't you wearing the near uniform that corporate ordered you to wear. You wouldn't want to upset your new masters, would you?"
Anya’s cheeks flushed crimson, her fists clenching at her sides. "This is ridiculous!" she snapped, her voice trembling with indignation. "I am the Captain of the Stardust Five. I shouldn't have to parade around in some... some fucking bikini like common crew!"
Sia pushed past Elias’s lingering proximity, her own resentment a hot coal in her chest. She strode to a nearby terminal, fingers stabbing the controls with sharp efficiency. "Section Four, Subsection Delta, Captain," Sia stated flatly, her voice devoid of warmth. The directive flashed onto the main overhead screen, glowing coldly in the blue light. "See? Personnel mandated for ergonomic assessment and thermal regulation protocol compliance: Specialist Sia Balio, Engineer Mei Chen, Operations Lead Jax Rourke... and Captain Anya Petrova." Her finger tapped the screen over Anya's name. "No exceptions listed. Corporate policy. Priority Alpha."
Anya stared at the glowing text, her shoulders slumping. "But... it doesn't make sense," she whispered, defeat already leaching the anger from her voice. Elias watched, a predatory stillness about him, his glasses reflecting the harsh light, obscuring his eyes but not the faint curve of satisfaction on his lips. The ozone seemed thicker, charged with the shift in power.
Without another word, Sia turned her back on both of them and walked towards the core's equipment lockers. Her movements were deliberate, almost defiant. She pulled open a locker, retrieved a small folded bundle of shimmering blue fabric – the mandated bikini. Holding Anya’s stunned gaze for a beat, Sia began unzipping her standard-issue jumpsuit right there in the humming core.
The heavy fabric pooled at her feet, revealing her lean frame clad only in simple underwear. Anya gasped, looking away momentarily, then back, caught between outrage and a morbid fascination. Elias didn’t look away. His intense focus tracked Sia’s every movement as she efficiently hooked the tiny top behind her back, the scrap of blue barely covering her small breasts, then stepped into the minuscule bottoms, pulling them high on her hips. The contrast between her usual pragmatic coveralls and the revealing bikini was stark, almost vulgar under the sterile server lights.
"The uniform, Captain," Sia stated, her voice cool, gesturing towards the locker where another bikini waited. "Unless you want to explain your non-compliance directly to Corporate? Think they’ll appreciate their new captain disobeying a Priority Alpha?"
Anya flinched as if struck. The threat, amplified by Sia’s cold compliance and Elias’s silent, menacing presence, was undeniable. Her authority, already fragile, crumbled completely. She looked down at her rumpled captain’s tunic, then back at the locker. Shoulders sagging, she walked over with the slow steps of someone heading to an execution. Her fingers trembled as she unzipped her jacket. The hum of the servers seemed to mock her.
"I normally don't agree with corporate," Elias said, smiling. "But I feel like this is the kind of decision that I can get behind. Now, I might actually pay attention to you, Captain."
The cold blue light of the server banks painted Anya’s skin a sickly pallor as she stood frozen before the open locker. Elias’s words hung in the ozone-thick air – pay attention. They weren’t praise; they were a predator’s assessment. Sia leaned against a terminal bank nearby, arms crossed, her expression unreadable behind the glow of her own terminal screen. She watched. Anya’s fingers fumbled with the zip of her captain’s jacket, the tremor visible even from across the humming core. The heavy fabric slid off her shoulders, pooling at her feet like discarded authority. Her regulation undershirt followed, leaving her clad only in her bra and standard-issue briefs. The chill of the core bit into her exposed skin, raising goosebumps.
Elias didn’t move. He remained near Sia, a dark silhouette against the blinking lights, his glasses reflecting fractured images of Anya’s humiliation. His stillness was worse than any leer. Anya snatched the shimmering blue bikini from the locker shelf. The fabric felt flimsy, ridiculous. Insulting. She hooked the tiny top behind her back with clumsy, angry jerks, her breasts straining against the inadequate triangles of blue synth-silk. Her nipples hardened instantly against the cold air and the rough texture. She stepped into the minuscule bottoms, yanking them high on her hips, the thin strip of fabric digging into the crease of her ass. She felt utterly exposed. Vulnerable. A captain reduced to near-nakedness under the sterile gaze of machines and traitors.
"Happy?" Anya spat, whirling to face Elias, her voice thick with suppressed rage and shame. She gestured wildly at her own barely-covered body. "Is this fucking efficient enough for you? Does this meet corporate’s exacting standards for thermal regulation?" Her chest heaved. The scrap of blue fabric did nothing to hide the flush spreading across her skin. "You think this is funny? You are going to get fired for being a stupid little turd and talking back. Trust me, I've worked hard to get where I am today and you've done nothing."
Anya looked coldly down at Elias, but Elias knew the power was all his. She had no idea that he was manipulating her into giving up her room and wearing slutty bikinis around. He could feel his cock growing hard as he stood up and walked over to her, towering over her sexy little body. He stood inches from her, looking down at her face, Anya seemed suddenly intimidated by his masculine dominant tall form.
"I think you like it when I talk back, Captain," he said with an evil grin on his face. "If your erect nipples tell me anything, you are turned on right now, aren't you?"
