Chapter 1: Introduction

The warm glow of the setting sun cast a golden hue over the city's skyline, as if the lights were anticipating the night's mischief as much as Melissa was. She stood before the full-length mirror in their master bedroom, adjusting the straps of her black lace bra, a naughty smile playing on her lips. The dress she had chosen—a deep, shimmering red that clung to her curves in all the right places—made her feel alive. She could already see the way Jeff's eyes would roam over her, that familiar hunger that still set her pulse racing after all these years.

The thought of it sent a shiver down her spine, and she couldn't help but run a hand over her hip, imagining his touch.

"You're going to need a jacket, honey," Jeff called out from the living room, where the sound of a sports channel played in the background. "It's a bit chilly out tonight."

Melissa turned to grab her jacket from the foot of the bed, giving Jeff a quick glimpse of her outfit. "I think I'll be just fine, thank you."

Jeff appeared in the doorway, the remote suspended in his hand. His eyes widened as he took her in, a slow smile spreading across his face.

"Wow," he said, his voice a low growl. "You look... amazing."

Melissa winked at him, turning to slip on a pair of heels that matched her dress perfectly. "Why, thank you, kind sir," she replied with a playful curtsey. "You don't look so bad yourself."

Jeff had opted for a tailored dark suit, the top buttons of his shirt undone, showcasing a hint of his chiseled chest. He looked every bit the successful designer he was, and Melissa felt a surge of pride at having him on her arm.

"Shall we, then?" he offered, extending his hand toward the door.

As they stepped out of their apartment, the city was already beginning to stir with life. Taxi lights flickered like fireflies through the darkness, and the hum of conversation and laughter filled the air. They walked arm in arm to their favorite spot, a trendy bar nestled in the heart of the city. The entrance was marked by a neon sign that read "Velvet," and the line of people waiting to get in snaked around the corner.

Jeff slipped the bouncer a twenty, and they were swiftly ushered inside.

The air was thick with the scent of expensive perfume and aftershave, and the pulsating beat of the music hit them like a physical force. Melissa felt the rhythm vibrating through her, igniting a primal urge within her. She loved nights like this, when the city seemed to come alive under the cloak of darkness, and anything felt possible.

They made their way to the bar, weaving through the sea of bodies. Melissa scanned the crowd, her eyes landing on a tall, muscular man with short brown hair and a warm smile. He caught her gaze and held it, his lips curving into a slow grin.
