Chapter 1: The Call to Adventure
Chapter 1: The Sword and the Dragon
Perched atop a rocky cliff on the eastern coast of Westeros, Dragonstone loomed majestically against the crashing waves beneath. Its black, volcanic walls stood tall, a testament to centuries of history and power. The vibrant green dragon glass littered across the sandy shores sparkled in the sunlight, a precious resource coveted by many.
As the midday sun hung high in the cloudless sky, a gentle sea breeze brushed against the black volcanic walls of Dragonstone, carrying with it the scent of saltwater and adventure. The waves crashed relentlessly against the base of the cliff, their rhythmic symphony a constant reminder of both the power and unpredictability of the vast sea. Above, dragons soared gracefully, their mighty wings casting magnificent shadows on the ancient castle walls and igniting a sense of wonder in all who beheld them.
As the dragons soared above, their scales glistening under the scorching sun, Daenerys Targaryen stood at the edge of the cliff, her silver hair billowing in the wind like a banner of destiny. Her violet eyes were filled with determination and purpose as she surveyed the vastness of the ocean before her. The weight of her responsibility pressed upon her shoulders, but she bore it with grace, knowing that she was destined for greatness.
She was then approached by her trusted advisor and friend, Missandei, whose dark skin glowed with wisdom and strength. "My Queen," said Missandei, her voice soft yet confident, "a new ally has arrived. One who wishes to pledge his allegiance to you and serve as your champion."
Daenerys's turned to her friend, "tell this mysterious visitor that I will see him in the throne room."
She left, leaving behind a trail of sandalwood incense, her scent lingering in the air like a promise of things to come. Missandei nodded respectfully before leaving to convey the message.
In the throne room, the smell of exotic spices mingled with the scent of worn leather and sweat. Torches flickered, casting long shadows on the cold stone floor and creating an atmosphere ripe with anticipation. As Daenerys entered, her gaze swept over the assembled crowd.
Her heart swelled with pride and excitement at the sight of her beloved Unsullied standing tall and proud, their armor gleaming in the torchlight. Their loyalty and dedication to her cause had never wavered, not even when faced with insurmountable odds.
Daenerys took a seat on her throne
, her eyes scanning the crowd until they fell upon her most faithful servant, Grey Worm. As she met his gaze, a smile tugged at the corners of her lips, a fleeting moment of warmth amidst the tension that filled the air. She knew that he would protect her people with his life if necessary, and for that, she was eternally grateful.
The doors of the throne room opened once more, revealing a man clad in
blackened steel armor, wielding a blade adorned with intricate engravings. His face was shrouded in shadow, save for piercing blue eyes that seemed to hold a thousand untold stories. His presence alone commanded attention, and silence enveloped the room as everyone awaited Daenerys's response.
"I am told that you wish to pledge your service to me," Daenerys began, her voice strong and unwavering. "What makes you a worthy addition to my ranks?"
The cloaked figure stepped forward, his boots crunching softly on the cold stone floor.
His voice was low and steady, matching the cadence of his measured steps. "I am called Josh," he revealed, his deep voice reverberating through the chamber. "A skilled swordsman, honed by years of training and countless battles. My weapon, forged from Valyrian steel, carries the name 'Lightbringer' – a symbol of hope and courage in times of darkness."
Daenerys studied him carefully, taking note of his unwavering resolve and determination, "Hmm," she said before turning to Jorah Mormont, "What do you think?"
Jorah furrowed his brow, weighing the risks, "He seems capable enough, but we must test his skills before we entrust him with our lives."
Daenerys agreed, "Very well," she replied, before looking at Grey Worm, "
Grey Worm, could you please spar with Josh? We need to know what we're dealing with here."
Grey Worm nodded, stepping forward with a steely determination. He held no grudge against Josh; instead, he saw this as an opportunity to ensure the safety of both himself and his queen. Josh followed suit, the two warriors facing each other in the center of the chamber. Their eyes locked in a silent battle of wills, neither willing to give an inch.
As the pair squared off, the tension in the room thickened, palpable and electric.
"There will be no killing and no major injuries," Daenerys declared, "the winner is the one who disarms his opponent."
With a nod acknowledging Daenerys's ruling, both men raised their weapons, poised for battle. Their movements were fluid and precise, each step calculated and deliberate. The clash of metal echoed through the chamber as they lunged at each other, testing their opponents' strengths and weaknesses. Each strike sent ripples of anticipation coursing through the audience, eager to witness the outcome of this epic duel.
As the match intensified, Josh and Grey Worm exchanged rapid blows, their blades slicing through the air with deadly precision.
Josh and Grey Worm couldn't help but share a smirk as the battle continued,
their hearts pounding with anticipation and exhilaration. It was clear that both warriors respected one another's skill, and this mutual admiration sparked a fire within them both.
"You've got good moves," whispered Josh between strikes, his breath heavy with exertion. "But I won't go easy on you."
Grey Worm returned the compliment with a grunt, his eyes narrowing as he prepared himself for the next round. "Nor will I on you," he growled.
Their swords danced, parrying thrusts and deflecting swings as if in a dance choreographed by fate itself. The crackle of wood and the sizzle of sparks punctuated the silence of the otherwise quiet chamber, the only witnesses to this spectacle being Daenerys and her councilors.
Finally Josh got the advantage and managed to trip Grey Worm and disarm him, causing a loud gasp to erupt from the audience.
Josh aimed his lightbringer sword down at Grey Worm and spoke, "do you yield?"
Grey Worm nodded before letting go of his weapon. With the spar over, Josh reached out his hand, offering assistance to Grey Worm. The Unsullied commander accepted, his grip firm and steady.
Rising to his feet, Grey Worm stared intensely at Josh, his expression unreadable, "Good fight," he finally said, his voice devoid of emotion.
Josh nodded back, his chest rising and falling in time with his ragged breaths.
Grey worm went back to Daenerys side
as Josh returned to his own position.
Everyone was astonished by the demonstration of raw talent and dexterity, but they also felt relief because now Dragonstone had an additional protector.
Missandei was visibly excited about this development, her sparkling eyes full of joy and anticipation.
Meanwhile, Daenerys watched the proceedings with a stoic expression, though her mind raced with the possibilities that lay ahead.
After a couple of moments passed, Daenerys rose from her throne. She moved toward Josh, her heels clicking rhythmically upon the cold stone floor.
"Impressive display, warrior," she said, her voice calm and collected. "Your skills have certainly caught my interest."
Josh bowed deeply, his posture rigid and respectful. "Thank you, my Queen. I humbly offer my services to you and pledge my life to your cause."
Daenerys's violet eyes bore into him, assessing his sincerity.
"You may join us, Josh," she declared, her tone imbued with authority. "I accept your pledge of service, and I shall expect nothing less than your utmost loyalty and dedication to the cause."
Josh bowed once again, his gratitude swelling within him. "You have my word, my Queen," he pledged, his voice steady and unwavering. "I am yours to command."
Daenerys nodded, her gaze shifting back to the rest of those gathered within the throne room.
"All hail Josh, the newest member of our cause!" she proclaimed, her voice echoing loudly throughout the chamber. The assembled followers cheered, their voices merging into a cacophony of approval and excitement.
Josh felt a surge of pride wash over him at the sound of their applause. He knew that he had found a home among these brave men and women, and he wasn't going to let anyone take that away from him. He vowed to defend his newfound family with every fiber of his being as he joined Daenerys on the dais.
"One last thing my Queen," Josh spoke
up, breaking the silence that followed his induction. "Before I embark on this journey alongside you, there is something I must confess."
The entire chamber held its breath, anticipating what this enigmatic warrior would reveal.
Daenerys tilted her head slightly, her curiosity piqued just like everyone else. "By all means, speak freely," she prompted, her voice laced with intrigue.
"Kings landing," Josh spoke, "if you desire it, I have people on the inside who can assist us in gaining access to secret tunnels, and I'm guessing you'd like to bypass the Red Keeps' defenses without alerting Joffrey baratheon, right?"
Daenerys's eyes widened with interest, "How many men do you have? And how can we trust them?"
Josh shrugged nonchalantly, "Not too many, around five, and their loyalty to me is unquestionable. But I don't see why we should rely solely on them. We could recruit more allies along the way."
Daenerys pondered over Josh's suggestion, her violet eyes flickering with anticipation. "This could indeed prove useful," she decided, much to the surprise of those gathered in the throne room.
"We shall discuss this further in private, Josh."
She gestured for Josh to follow her, and together they made their way to a secluded alcove near the entrance of the throne room. The space was dimly lit, illuminated only by the faint glow of lanterns hanging precariously from the walls.
"So tell me," Daenerys began, her voice urgent but hushed, "what is your plan for infiltrating King's Landing?"
Josh paused, gathering his thoughts before speaking.
"My plan involves utilizing the underground sewer system that runs beneath Kings Landing. The network of tunnels connects various parts of the city, including the dungeons beneath the Red Keep."
Daenerys's eyes widened with interest as she listened intently to Josh's proposal. "That sounds promising," she mused aloud, "but how do we guarantee the secrecy of our assault force?"
Josh smiled confidently, his gaze never wavering from Daenerys's intense stare.
"Trust is earned, my Queen," he said calmly, "and I believe that my actions will demonstrate my commitment to you and this cause."
Daenerys considered his words, her violet eyes flashing with determination. "Very well," she conceded, "we shall proceed with caution, but your plan holds promise."
With that, the two leaders exchanged a knowing glance, their bond strengthened by shared vision and goals. Their minds whirred with plans and strategies, their thoughts dancing in perfect synchronicity.
Daenerys and Josh huddled close, whispering quietly to each other as they discussed the finer points of their infiltration strategy. Every now and then, their hands would brush against each other, sending a jolt of electricity up their spines.
"I think we should strike during the night," suggested Josh, his voice barely audible. "The guards tend to relax their vigilance after dark, making it easier for us to slip past them undetected."
Daenerys nodded thoughtfully, her violet eyes darting around the dimly lit alcove.
"I agree," she murmured, her voice barely louder than a whisper. "We need to strike when they least expect it."
Josh smiled grimly, his lightbringer resting comfortably in its scabbard by his side. "Let's make sure they never see it coming," he growled, his eyes burning with intensity.
The two leaders continued to discuss their plans, their voices barely audible above the distant roars of the dragons outside. They knew that time was running short, and they needed to act quickly if they wanted to succeed.
With the Red Keep standing as a formidable obstacle in their path, they needed every advantage they could get. Josh proposed a daring plan that involved exploiting the city's sewer system to sneak in without detection.
"It's risky," Daenerys admitted, her voice betraying the doubt she felt. "But it might just work."
"If we play our cards right," Josh assured her, "we can turn the tables on our enemies."
The two of them spent hours discussing the intricacies of their plan, ensuring that every detail was accounted for.
Josh pulled out a map of King's Landing, laying it out on the cold stone floor. He pointed to various locations, explaining how they'd use the sewers to navigate their way through the city.
"I've heard rumors," Josh confided cautiously, "of a hidden passageway that leads directly into the dungeons below the Red Keep. If we can find it, we won't have to fight our way through the castle."
Daenerys scrutinized the map, her violet eyes darting from place to place.
"That passageway could be the key to our success," she mused, stroking her chin thoughtfully. "But how do we locate it amidst all these winding tunnels?"
Josh grinned wickedly, his confidence inspiring faith in Daenerys. "Leave that to me, my Queen," he replied, reaching for a quill and parchment. "I have connections inside Kings Landing that can guide us through the maze safely."
They spent hours planning their attack, every detail meticulously attended to.
Daenerys, Josh, and the others strategized late into the night, their conversations fueled by ambition and determination. The tension between them was palpable, the air electrified with the prospect of imminent victory.
Josh fumbled through his pockets, pulling out a crumpled piece of paper. He unfolded it carefully, revealing a crude sketch of the sewers beneath King's Landing. He traced lines with his finger, pointing out landmarks and potential obstacles.
Daenerys leaned in closer, her gaze fixed on the paper.
"We start at the docks, correct?" she asked, her voice soft and careful.
Josh nodded, placing a finger on the map. "Yes, we enter the tunnel here," he explained, "then we follow it until we reach the main drainage pipe. From there, we can navigate our way to the Red Keep."
Daenerys traced the route with her finger, her brows furrowing in concentration.
"We'll need to gather supplies," she mused, tapping her fingers against the table. "Food, water, maybe some rope—"
"And weapons," Josh interjected, his voice hardening. "Don't forget the weapons."
The mention of weapons brought a sudden chill to the air, the memory of bloodshed and betrayal still fresh in their minds. Daenerys swallowed thickly, her throat dry. "Of course," she murmured, forcing herself to focus on the task at hand.
"I'll send Missandei to organize everything we need."
"Wonderful," Josh replied, his eyes meeting hers. "We'll be ready to leave tomorrow evening."
Daenerys nodded, her gaze sweeping over the assembled group. She could feel the weight of their expectations on her shoulders, but she refused to buckle under the pressure. Instead, she drew strength from their unwavering belief in her ability to lead them to victory.
"Then it's settled," she declared, her voice ringing with conviction, "We depart tomorrow evening.
"
The group nodded in agreement, their faces etched with determination and resolve. Time was of the essence, and they all knew that failure would mean certain death. The stakes were higher than ever, and they couldn't afford any mistakes.
"And what of Joffrey, milady?" Josh asked, his voice low and gravelly as he looked into Daenerys's violet eyes, "how would you like us to deal with him when we capture the fort?"
"Capture him if you can, if he resists
, kill him if you MUST," Daenerys responded, her voice icy and void of remorse. "I've endured enough torment at his hands to last lifetimes."
Josh gulped, nodding his understanding. "Understood," he muttered, his grip tightening around Lightbringer's hilt. "I'll make sure he pays for his sins."
Daenerys smiled grimly, her gaze locked onto Josh's face. "I know you will," she replied, her voice holding a hint of appreciation.
* * *
The following morning, the bustling activity within Daenerys's camp was reminiscent of a busy anthill; everyone busily preparing for the upcoming mission. Missandei organized the supply list as per Daenerys's orders, and soon enough, carts filled with food, water, and weapons were being loaded up. The air was alive with chatter and laughter, but underneath the surface, a feeling of unease permeated the atmosphere.
The army moved out
, leaving behind the familiar comfort of their encampment. The tents fluttered in the breeze, their flaps swaying gently as if bidding farewell to their occupants.
Soon, the first signs of twilight began to descend upon the land, casting long shadows on the rolling hillsides. The trees swayed silently in the distance, their branches reaching out like skeletal fingers clutching at the fading light.
Josh led the way, his senses attuned to the slightest change in his surroundings.
The flickering torchlight cast eerie shadows on the damp walls, creating an oppressive atmosphere that weighed heavily on their spirits.
They arrived at the outskirts of Kings landing
, their horses blowing steam from nostrils chilled by the biting cold. A sense of urgency hung in the air, palpable and electric. Everyone's nerves were stretched taut, like strings of a finely tuned instrument playing a symphony of tension and fear.
Daenerys and Josh exchanged looks filled with determination and apprehension.
They knew that the road ahead was fraught with danger and uncertainty, but they also understood that their survival depended on the strength of their convictions and the cohesion of their team.
"That's the sewage system down there," Josh pointed, "that's how I can lead 2 teams through the maze, one team will come with me to the throne room to capture Joffrey, while the other team, led by Grey Worm will open the gates, after that you lead the army through Daenerys."
Daenerys nodded, "Alright, I understand Josh, but you better remember that my dragons can be a bit unpredictable, I want you to signal me with smoke signals if you encounter any difficulties, alright?"
"Of course," Josh replied, "and we'll meet you at the gate after we capture or eliminate Joffrey."
"Good," Daenerys confirmed, her eyes shining with purpose, "let's get started, we have no time to waste."
Daenerys mounted her dragon, Viserion, while Josh and Grey Worm stood in her wake,
leading their respective forces down into the murky depths of the sewer system. Despite the stench that wafted upward, the smell of freedom and triumph was palpable amongst the troops. The mood was charged with anticipation, like a wire ready to explode with electricity.
As they navigated deeper into the labyrinthine tunnels, both groups split up according to prearranged signals. Josh led his team through twisting paths, his keen wits guiding them past obstacles and hazards. Meanwhile, Grey Worm marched relentlessly onward, his men moving with machine-like precision.
Then they came across a split in the pathway, Josh then turned to Grey Worm and spoke, "
take your team left, I'll take mine right, remember to signal with smoke if you encounter problems opening the gate."
Grey Worm nodded curtly, his stoic demeanor belying the nervous energy that coursed through his veins. "Understood," he acknowledged, leading his unit down the fork in the tunnel.
As they progressed deeper into the catacombs, the foul odors became increasingly overwhelming, and the acrid taste of stagnant water lingered on their tongues.
"The air is not safe to breath anymore, use any item of clothing on you to cover your nose and mouth." Josh ordered his group as they
plunged deeper into the darkness. The stench of rotting flesh mingled with the rancid odor of sewage, clinging to their clothes in a suffocating embrace.
Visibility was limited, and the uneven ground beneath their feet threatened to throw them off balance. Their torch lights' flickered, casting grotesque shadows on the tunnel walls.
"We are almost at the throne room,
" Josh whispered, his voice muffled by the makeshift mask he wore.
His words rang true, but the cavernous darkness seemed to stretch on forever, swallowing up hope with every creaking step.
"Just a little further," someone whimpered, their voice trembling with exhaustion.
The thundering heartbeat of the sewer echoed ominously around them, like a cruel reminder of their vulnerability.
Despite the strain on their bodies, they pressed on, driven by a relentless desire for freedom and revenge.
The air grew thinner as they ventured deeper into the tunnel, threatening to choke them with filth and decay. Sweat soaked through their garments, and the dampness clung to their skin like a second skin. The cloying smells assailed their nostrils, inducing nausea and despair. Yet Josh's unwavering determination pushed them forward, his voice cutting through the gloom like a beacon of hope.
"here we are," he muttered, stopping abruptly in front of a massive metal door that barred their path. The door's hinges squeaked softly, betraying the age and neglect of the structure.
It swung open reluctantly, revealing a cavernous chamber bathed in shadowy crimson light. Josh's torch wobbled weakly, casting long, distorted shadows on the far wall. The sight sent shivers down his spine as he took a cautious step inside.
"Well,
this is where we put an end to the Baratheons," he murmured to his weary companions, his voice strained yet resolute.
"Are you ready?"
The echoes of their labored breathing reverberated around the cavernous chamber, punctuating the oppressive silence that enveloped them. One by one, they answered with nods of grim determination, their faces etched with anticipation and dread.
"Right," Josh exhaled, steeling himself for the confrontation ahead. "Let's do this."
He motioned for his team to advance, their footsteps crunching on the marble floor as they moved forward hesitantly.
Ahead of them, Joffrey stood arrogantly on the throne, his face marred by smug satisfaction. His eyes scanned the sewer entrance warily, unknowingly staring into the hearts of his enemies.
"What do you want?" Joffrey sneered disdainfully, his voice dripping with contempt. "Have you come to beg for mercy?"
Josh's fist tightened around the hilt of his sword, his knuckles white with rage. He struggled to contain his anger, reminding himself of the importance of remaining focused and calm.
"We seek justice," Josh finally managed to say, his voice strained but controlled. "For ourselves and for those who suffered at your hands."
Joffrey snorted derisively, his eyes narrowing into slits. "Is that so?" he sneered, his voice dripping with arrogance. "And who gave you the permission to disturb my peace?"
Josh took a deep breath, summoning patience as he stared down the despicable ruler. "It matters not who gave us permission," he retorted, "surrender or die."
As Josh stepped forward, his men followed closely behind, their expressions hardening with resolve. The torchlight played tricks on their faces, casting grotesque shadows that danced across the walls. Joffrey's smug smirk faltered slightly, replaced by a look of growing unease.
"Attack," Josh ordered, "take out the guards and leave Joffrey to me,"
the order snapped like a whip, propelling his soldiers into action.
In an instant, the cavernous chamber erupted into chaos. Torches flew through the air, illuminating the twisted faces of the guardsmen, their screams echoing through the sewer passageways. Steel scraped against steel as blades carved through the darkness, sparks flying like living embers.
Josh launched himself at Joffrey, his face contorting into a snarl of raw hatred. His movements were precise, swift, and deadly, like a predator stalking its prey.
Joffrey stood no chance against
Josh's wrath, his eyes wide with terror as Josh lunged towards him with his sword drawn. The tip of the blade glistened with a sinister gleam, reflecting the sickly red light that bathed the chamber.
"No!" Joffrey cried, his voice cracking in desperation. "Please, I beg you, spare my life!"
Josh's lips curled into a cold smile of contempt as he raised his weapon high above his head.
"Do you surrender,"
he taunted, his voice dripping with venom, "or do you choose pain as your fate?"
Joffrey's face blanched in terror, his eyes darting wildly around the chamber.
"I yield," he gasped, his voice trembling with fear. "Mercy, show me mercy!"
"It will not be me that decides your fate," Josh declared sheathing his sword. "Your judgment lies with Daenerys."
Joffrey sagged with relief, his knees buckling beneath him.
"You," Josh said pointing at one of the female soldiers with him, "come here and chew on this but don't swallow."
The woman walked towards him confused, her brows furrowed in curiosity, "What is it?" she asked, squinting at the object in his hand.
"It's a plant that can put someone to sleep for three hours if they swallow it."
Josh explains, handing the soldier a small, innocuous-looking leaf. "Now, you chew on that, but don't swallow it. Just hold it in your mouth, and once it starts working, spit it out."
Curiosity sparkles in the soldier's eyes, and she obeys, gingerly taking the leaf and popping it into her mouth. The bitter taste immediately puckers her lips, but she fights back the urge to spit it out. Instead, she focuses on the unfamiliar sensation spreading through her body, a strange mix of heaviness and warmth.
"Now kiss Joffrey and force him to swallow it," Josh ordered the female soldier.
Her eyes widened in surprise, but she didn't dare hesitate.
She approached Joffrey, her expression hardening with disgust, She
reached out with a firm grasp, pinning him down with ease. Her face mere inches away from his, she planted a forceful kiss on his lips, thrusting her tongue into his mouth. Joffrey fought back, but her grip was too strong, and he had no choice but to swallow the foreign substance.
As soon as the deed was done, she recoiled in disgust, wiping her lips with the back of her hand. Joffrey slumped limply, his eyes glazed over, as the effects of the narcotic began to take hold.
The female soldier watched him with a mixture of pity and repulsion, her earlier excitement dulled by the harsh reality of their situation. She couldn't help but feel a fleeting moment of empathy for the young man, despite his many atrocities.
"Good work," Josh said to the female soldier, "now you two, tie him up and we wait for the queen to arrive."
The two men stepped forward, their expressions grim as they bound Joffrey securely. His struggles were futile, easily restrained by the expert hands of his captors. The entire process was carried out efficiently, with no wasted movement or unnecessary chatter.
"He's secure," one of the men reported, his voice low and steady. "Ready for whatever comes next."
Josh nodded approvingly, his gaze never straying from the bound figure near the throne.
"Everyone stand guard at the doors," Josh orders his troops before turning to the female soldier, "you stay here with me."
She nods, her eyes scanning the room, taking in the dim lighting and the heavy air. "How much longer till the queen arrives?" she asks, shifting her weight uneasily.
"Hard to tell," Josh replies, his gaze trained on the unconscious form of Joffrey. "But we'll be ready for her."
They stand in silence, the only sounds in the room the slow ticking of the old clock on the wall and the occasional crackle of the torches.
2 hours later the castle doors opened and in walked
Daenerys Targaryen, her face hardened with determination and her eyes ablaze with fiery intensity. She strides confidently into the throne room, her heart pounding with anticipation and fear.
"Well done," she says, looking appraisingly at Josh and the female soldier. "Thank you for capturing Joffrey."
Josh nods respectfully, his admiration for the fierce queen swelling within him, "The pleasure is ours," he replies, his voice deep and gravelly, "Kings landing is yours now."
