Chapter 36: The Reluctant Rhythm
Dominic froze. His eyes flew wide, white showing all around the pupils, locked onto his own hand. His fingers were knuckle-deep inside Joanna, slick with her sudden, shocking wetness. The sensation – impossibly soft, impossibly intimate, impossibly wrong – slammed into him like a physical blow. "Shit! Jo, I didn't—" The apology choked off, strangled by panic and the visceral, betraying heat enveloping his fingers.
Joanna gasped, a sharp, involuntary sound that morphed into a low moan. Her body arched, hips twisting towards the invasion, not away. Her hand, still gripping Dominic through his pajamas, convulsed, tightening reflexively. The friction, the rough pressure against his bare skin, sent a jolt of agonizing pleasure rocketing through him. He groaned, hips bucking wildly against her trapped fist. The movement drove his fingers deeper into her softness. Her breath hitched, another moan escaping, thick with confusion and a terrifying echo of the pleasure she knew too well from her marriage.
"See?" Sera’s voice was a low purr, cutting through the gasping chaos. She shifted slightly on the pillows, a queen surveying her handiwork. Her gaze was fixed on the point where Dominic’s hand disappeared beneath the rucked hem of Joanna’s sheer slip, and where Joanna’s fist ground rhythmically against the straining outline in Dominic’s pajamas. "Instincts are such fascinating things. Quite… authentic." She sounded like she was making notes.
"Mom—" Dominic choked out, trying to pull his hand back. But Joanna’s inner muscles clenched around his fingers, a traitorous, involuntary spasm. He gasped, his movement stuttering. "Stop! Please!" He wasn’t sure who he was pleading with – Joanna, his mother, or his own treacherous body.
Joanna’s eyes were squeezed shut. Tears leaked from the corners, tracking through the faint smudges of yesterday's mascara. Her jaw was clenched tight, but her body… her body was still moving against his hand, seeking the pressure. Her own hand, seemingly with a mind of its own, began a slow, grinding rub against Dominic’s erection through the thin cotton. Learned motions. Efficient. Detached, yet devastatingly effective. "Can't…" she whispered, the word barely audible over the wet sounds her movements produced. "Dominic… stop touching me."
But he couldn't. Not effectively. Her clenching heat held him, pulled at him. His own arousal, stoked by her rough, unfamiliar grip, warred with his revulsion. He trembled violently.
"Continue," Sera commanded, her voice dropping an octave, imbued with absolute authority. "Both of you. You started this. Now finish it. Properly."
The word hung in the air, thick and suffocating. ‘Properly’. It meant shedding the thin barriers of fabric, the clumsy fumbling through cloth. It meant skin on skin. It meant surrender.
Joanna opened her eyes. They met Dominic’s. The shared horror was absolute. But beneath it, a terrifying current of shared helplessness, a recognition of their mother’s unyielding will. Sera’s gaze bored into them, waiting.
With a sob that was pure anguish, Joanna acted. Her free hand flew to the waistband of Dominic’s pajama pants. Not fumbling this time. Ruthless. She yanked them down his hips in one sharp motion, exposing him fully – flushed, rigid, utterly vulnerable in the dim light. The cool air hit him, but it was nothing compared to the hot slide of Joanna’s fingers as they immediately closed around his bare length.
Dominic cried out, a raw sound of shock and overwhelming sensation. His hips jerked forward into her grip, utterly beyond his control. His other hand, the one buried inside her, spasmed in response, fingers curling involuntarily against a spot that made Joanna gasp and arch again, her own grip tightening on him. It was a vicious, unstoppable feedback loop.
The cool air on Dominic’s exposed skin felt like a brand. Joanna’s grip tightened, a slick, demanding pressure that robbed him of breath, of thought. Every nerve screamed, caught between the violation inside Joanna and the unbearable, unwanted pleasure she forced upon him. "Oh god," he choked, hips jerking again, driven by pure animal reflex against his will. Her fingers knew exactly what they were doing, learned on another man, now used on her brother.
"Joanna, do you love Dominic?" Sera’s voice cut through the humid air, startlingly calm, a scalpel slicing into the raw moment. Her eyes gleamed in the lamplight, fixed on her daughter’s tear-streaked face.
Joanna’s response was immediate, ripped from her throat like a sob tangled with something else entirely. "Of course I do!" The words burst out, raw and shocking in their certainty. Dominic shuddered violently beneath her touch, a full-body convulsion that made his fingers twist deep inside her. A ragged cry escaped Joanna, her body arching impossibly higher.
"Do I even need to ask, Dominic?" Sera murmured, a chilling satisfaction in her tone. The command hung, heavy and inescapable.
Dominic’s head snapped up, eyes wide and terrified, meeting Joanna’s dazed, tear-filled gaze. The dam broke. "I love you!" he shouted, the words ripped from somewhere primal, desperate. "Joanna, I love you!" It wasn't gentle, it was a guttural declaration torn from the core of the chaos.
The words detonated. Joanna’s cry turned high, piercing, her body clamping down hard on Dominic’s trapped fingers in a fierce, rhythmic pulse. Her hand on him spasmed, her thumb brushing the slick tip. The brutal, involuntary feedback loop hit its peak. Dominic roared, a sound of pure, agonized release, his hips driving forward one final, helpless time as heat erupted into her clenched fist. Joanna convulsed, her own climax crashing over her in violent waves, pulling his fingers deeper, her moans dissolving into broken gasps against his neck. Their bodies locked, trembling violently in the shared, horrifying release, echoing Sera’s quiet question off the book covers on the bedroom walls. Sera watched, unmoving, the soft light catching the faint, satisfied curve on her lips as their ragged breaths filled the sudden, heavy silence.
The ragged symphony of gasps slowly subsided, leaving the room thick with salt and spent desire. Sera watched them, Dominic trembling like a plucked wire, Joanna’s face buried against his neck, shuddering. The air reeked of sweat, sex, and something sharper – shame, maybe, or the metallic tang of ruptured boundaries. Her own pulse hammered a satisfied counterpoint in her ears. "Beautiful," she breathed, the word soft, almost reverent.
She shifted on the bed, the rustle of her slip loud in the sudden quiet. "Look at each other." Her command sliced through the haze, brooking no argument. "Now." Dominic flinched, pulling his sticky hand away from Joanna with a wet sound that made his stomach heave. Joanna lifted her head slowly, her eyes red-rimmed, unfocused, meeting her brother’s terrified gaze. His release glistened obscenely in her clenched fist, a thick, pearlescent smear against her knuckles. Sera’s gaze flickered between them, predatory. "Taste it," she murmured, leaning forward slightly. "Taste what you created. Both of you."
Joanna moved first. Almost robotically, driven by some desperate, ingrained obedience or the raw edge of whatever fractured state she occupied, she lifted her trembling, coated hand to her mouth. Her tongue darted out, quick as a lizard's, licking the sticky residue from her fingers. Then, with a low, guttural sound that wasn't entirely human, she closed her mouth over Dominic's softening shaft still resting against her thigh. He cried out, a strangled yelp, hips jerking away instinctively, but she held him fast with her other hand, sucking fiercely, messily, as if consuming the last drops of life-giving water after days in a desert. Her eyes screwed shut, tears leaking anew.
Dominic recoiled, horrified, trying to scramble back on the rumpled sheets. "Jo! Stop! Jesus, stop it!" His voice cracked. But Sera was watching him, her expression serene, expectant. He froze under that gaze. He looked down at his own hand, slick with Joanna's wetness, glistening under the lamplight. The scent, musky and intimate, filled his nostrils. His stomach roiled. He hesitated, his breath coming in short, sharp pants, staring at his fingers as if they belonged to someone else. Slowly, agonizingly slowly, brought them to his lips. His tongue touched the moisture tentatively. The taste was strange, salty-sweet, metallic like blood but warmer. Familiar, yet terrifyingly alien. He closed his eyes, a low groan escaping him as he licked his fingers clean with deliberate slowness, savoring the unfamiliar tang despite himself, a traitorous curiosity battling the horror.
Sera watched the twin acts of consumption – Joanna’s frantic devouring, Dominic’s reluctant savoring. A small, genuine smile touched her lips, warm and terrifying. "My darlings," she murmured, her voice thick with affection. She reached out, her movements languid, and gently pulled Joanna’s head away from Dominic. Joanna slumped back, panting, a milky smear at the corner of her mouth. Sera then guided Dominic closer too, ignoring his flinch. She gathered them both, their bodies limp and unresisting, pulling them against her plush form on the bed. She pressed a soft, lingering kiss to Joanna’s damp forehead, then another to Dominic’s temple, his skin clammy under her lips. "Goodnight, my loves," she whispered, the words a soft benediction in the charged air. "Rest now."
Exhaustion, profound and absolute, crashed over them like a wave. The frantic energy, the terror, the shocking pleasure – it all dissolved into a leaden weight. Dominic’s trembling finally stilled, replaced by a deep, bone-weary sigh. Joanna went utterly slack, her head lolling against Sera’s shoulder. Sera simply held them, a satisfied hum vibrating low in her chest. Limbs tangled, skin slick where they touched, the three Bellweathers sank. Breath evened out into the shallow rhythm of sleep, a heavy, sweaty jumble of flesh finding a grotesque, exhausted peace beneath the soft glow of the lamp. The silence returned, deeper now, pregnant with the aftermath.
