Chapter 2: Building Tension
The morning sun filtered through the narrow window of Sister Agnes's room, casting a warm, golden glow over the simple wooden furniture. The air was filled with the soft hum of the beeswax candles, their waxy scent mingling with the faint sound of the prayer book that lay open on the small wooden table by the bed.
Sister Agnes stirred slowly, her body stretching and yawning as she awakened from a deep, restful sleep. She blinked, her eyes adjusting to the soft light that bathed her room, her mind slowly coming back to consciousness. She felt relaxed, her body still heavy and warm from the comfort of her bed.
As she stretched, she felt something cold and hard against her chest, a sudden chill that startled her. She looked down, her eyes widening in surprise as she saw one of her breasts hanging out of her nightgown, the nipple hard and erect. Her hand flew to her chest, her eyes scanning the room to see if anyone could have seen her in such a state. But her room was empty, the only sound the soft hum of the beeswax candles and the distant murmur of the other nuns beginning their morning prayers. Sister Agnes quickly adjusted her nightgown, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment at the thought of who might have seen her.
"That's weird," she muttered to herself, her mind trying to make sense of the unexpected exposure. Her brow furrowed as she remembered the strange dream she had had the night before. It had been so vivid, so real, yet so unlike anything she had experienced before. She had felt a strange sensation, a warmth and a tingling that had spread through her body, leaving her breathless and her heart pounding. She shook her head, trying to clear the foggy memory, and slipped out of bed, her bare feet padding softly on the cold stone floor.
As she moved towards the small wooden table to retrieve her prayer book, she paused, her eyes catching sight of something out of place. A small, green leaf lay on the floor, its edges crinkled and its color slightly off. Sister Agnes tilted her head, her eyebrows furrowing in confusion as she picked it up.
