Chapter 1: Introduction
Aphrodite's deep-blue eyes caught his from across the room. He blinked, unable to avert his gaze from the striking, golden-haired woman in red. A woman unlike any he'd met before.
Around him, conversations in hushed tones erupted in laughter. Decadent scents of an aromatic feast and delectable wines enveloped him. Aphrodite's eyes twinkled at him, and she cocked her head to the side, her lips curving mischievously. she is tall and slender, her movements graceful as a dancer's. Her heart-shaped face had the allure of an ancient goddess, and her aura radiated a potent allure that seemed to wrap around James like a silken veil.
Intrigued and slightly unnerved, James stared, a mixture of apprehension and curiosity playing on his features.
He was no stranger to glamorous affairs, but there was something unique about this woman—an unforgettable quality that stirred his senses.
Aphrodite casually made her way through the throng of people, hips swaying gently with every step. Eyes followed her, but she seemed impervious to their stares, her gaze locked on his face. Guests whispered to each other as she passed, her entrance causing ripples of excitement that spread throughout the room.
Her vivid scarlet gown clung to her hourglass figure, enhancing every curve and accentuating her flawless skin. She exuded an air of confidence that seemed to say she knew exactly what she was doing and who she wanted.
As she approached him, James felt a strange throbbing in his chest. His breath caught in his throat as she stopped before him, locking eyes with him. She extended an invitation with a mere tilt of her head.
"You've got to dance with me, darling," she whispered, her breath warm against his ear.
He hesitated for a moment, feeling unsure and slightly overwhelmed. Marla, his wife of many years, had long abandoned any efforts to keep their marriage alive, but he still cherished their bond. He was almost afraid of what could happen if he let his guard down.
"I'm not much of a dancer," James admitted, struggling to find his voice against the pounding of his heart.
"Don't be silly," she chided, linking her arm through his, her laugh like a tinkling bell.
"I'll lead, and you follow. I promise it will be great fun."
"Alright," James agreed, allowing himself to be pulled to the dance floor. Her fingers lingered on his arm, a small spark igniting between them. Her proximity set off a wildfire burning inside him, and he felt a magnetic pull she exerted, growing stronger and stronger.
The orchestra played, a waltz that seemed to echo the rhythm building between them.
