Chapter 3: Chapter 3

Three months have passed since they left the land of Riversides and now they where getting closer to the town of Highcliff Rock . A town known for its massive structures and the trade between it and the dwarves.

"Gris, how much longer till we reach Highcliff?" Zephyra asked as she looked at the waning moon. She shifted the claymore on her back, the leather straps creaking slightly as she adjusted her grip.

Gris looked up at the sky, her eyes narrowing as she considered the question. "We should reach the outskirts by tomorrow morning. It's a big town, so it might take some time to find a place to stay," she said, her voice matter-of-fact.

"Good, because it has been weeks since I slept in a real bed," Zephyra sighed, her shoulders slumping slightly at the thought.

Gris chuckled, a low rumble that echoed through the night. "You Amazonians are so soft," she teased. "You'd think you were all tough and warrior-like."

Zephyra laughed, a deep, rich sound that seemed to reverberate off the dense trees surrounding them. "And you Orcs are so gentle," she countered with a grin. "I'd think you were all fierce and fearsome."

Gris snorted, shaking her head. "Touché, Amazon. Touché." She paused for a moment, her gaze scanning the darkness around them. "But you would expect a war culture as yours would love to seelp on the ground," Gris says as they walks over a hill to see HighCiff Rock.

"I don't hate it, but something amazing about a soft bed," Zephyra replies with a smile as they got down the hill and could see the town in the distance.

Gris nodded, her gaze fixed on the towering structures that made up the town of Highcliff Rock. "I can't deny that. But I must admit, I'm looking forward to a hot bath more than anything else," she says, a dreamy expression on her face.

Zephyra laughed, her deep voice echoing in the night. "A hot bath? Gris, you're full of surprises, that does sound lovely," Zephyra said, a hint of longing in her own voice as she imagined the feel of hot water soothing her muscles after weeks of sleeping on the ground. They continued to walk, the dense jungle finally giving way to a more open landscape as they approached the outskirts of Highcliff Rock. The town was a sight to behold, with towering structures of stone and wood that seemed to stretch towards the sky, a stark contrast to the lush greenery they had grown accustomed to.

As they reached the edge of the town, the first light of dawn began to break over the horizon, casting a warm glow over the sleeping city.

The air was filled with the faint hum of activity, the clatter of carts and the distant ringing of hammers on anvils. The scent of smoke and roasting meat wafted through the air, mingling with the ever-present smell of damp earth and foliage.

"It's beautiful," Zephyra murmured, her eyes wide as she took in the sight of the towering city. The architecture was a mix of stone and wood, with intricate carvings adorning the walls and roofs. The buildings were a patchwork of different styles, from the towering spires of the rich to the humble homes of the working class.

Zephyra's eyes widened as she took it all in. "I've never seen anything like it. It's like a giant's playground," she said, her voice filled with awe. "It is quite the sight, isn't it? But wait until you see the inside. The marketplaces are a riot of colors and sounds, and the inns... well, they're an experience in themselves."

Zephyra grinned, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "I can't wait. But first, we need to find an inn.

I know just the place," Gris said, her voice filled with a mix of excitement and nostalgia. "There's an inn called The Golden Hammer, run by a dwarf named Thoren. He's a good friend of mine, and he'll make sure we're well taken care of."

"Wait Thoren of the MarshStones, he runs the I. here. He is my godfather," Zephyra says "I have not seen him in years, I had no idea he moved here," her voice filled with surprise and a hint of fondness.

Gris smiled, her eyes reflecting her own fond memories of the dwarf. "Yes, he moved here a few years ago. He says the humidity agrees with his joints," she says with a chuckle. "But don't worry, he'll be thrilled to see you again. He always spoke fondly of you."

Zephyra's eyes lit up at the prospect of reuniting with her godfather. "That's wonderful to hear. I can't wait to see him," she said, her steps quickening as they entered the town.

The streets were already bustling with activity, merchants opening their shops, and travelers making their way through the cobblestone streets. The scent of fresh bread and roasting meat filled the air, making Zephyra's stomach rumble.

"You know, I could really go for a good meal right now," Zephyra said, her gaze wandering to a nearby food stall selling steaming pastries. "I thought you Amazons were all about battle and prowess.

I didn't take you for the type to be motivated by your stomach," Gris teased, a playful smirk on her face.

Zephyra chuckled, her stomach growling loudly in response. "Well, even warriors need to eat, Gris. And besides, good food can be a great motivator," she said, her eyes still fixed on the pastries.

Gris laughed, a deep rumble that echoed through the bustling streets. "True enough. Alright the Inn most likely has some form of food," Gris said, starting to walk towards the inn. Zephyra followed, her stomach rumbling loudly again.

The Golden Hammer was located in the heart of Highcliff Rock, a stone's throw away from the main market square. The inn was a towering structure of timber and stone, with a golden hammer hanging above the heavy oak door. The sign creaked softly in the breeze, casting a long shadow over the cobblestone street below.

As they approached, the door to the inn swung open, revealing a familiar figure. Standing in the doorway was a robust dwarf, his hair and beard a fiery red, and his eyes twinkling with warmth.

"As I love and breath come here little one," he says walking around the bar and behind the counter to give Zephyra a big hug.

"Thoren!" Zephyra exclaimed, returning the hug with equal fervor. "It's been years!"

Thoren stepped back, his hands still resting on Zephyra's shoulders. "Years indeed, my dear. Look at you, all grown up and adventuring around the world. Your mother must be proud," he said, his voice filled with pride and affection.

Zephyra smiled, her green eyes shining with happiness. "She is. And I'm on a mission for her, actually.

I'm looking for... for something special," Zephyra said, her voice trailing off as she caught sight of Gris standing just behind her shoulder. "Oh, Thoren, this is Griselda. Gris, this is my godfather, Thoren of the MarshStones."

Thoren's eyes widened in surprise as he caught sight of Gris, but his smile never wavered. "Griselda, welcome to The Golden Hammer. It's a pleasure to meet you," he said, extending a hand towards Gris. "Shocking I know, how did this Dwarf barely above four feet become the godfather of this towering amazon, it's really a funny story," Thoren said with a chuckle, shaking hands with Gris.

"The pleasure is mine, Thoren," Gris replied, her grip firm and steady. "I've heard so much about you."

"All good, I hope?" Thoren asked, a playful twinkle in his eye. "I don't want my goddaughter here thinking I'm some sort of ogre or something."

Zephyra laughed, a deep, rich sound that echoed through the inn. "Not at all, Thoren. Gris and I have become fast friends on our journey.

Her knowledge of herbs and their uses has been invaluable. And her stories of Orcish culture and customs have been fascinating. But despite our growing bond, there are still moments when I catch her looking at me with a strange intensity, like she's seeing something in me that I don't see in myself.

As we sit in The Golden Hammer, a warm mug of mead in front of each of us, Thoren regales us with tales of his adventures since he left the tribe. He speaks of the dwarves he's met, the treasures he's found, and the battles he's fought.

And how he meet Zephyras father and her mother the queen.

He talks about how her mother was a fierce warrior but with a heart of gold. She had taken in Thoren and treated him like family when he was no more than a lost and lonely dwarf.

As Thoren finishes his story, Gris raises her mug of mead in a toast. "To new friends and old," she says, her eyes meeting Zephyra's over the rim of her mug. Zephyra smiles and clinks her mug against Gris's, the sound of the toast echoing through the inn.

Thoren chuckles, his eyes twinkling with warmth.

"To journeys that never end. Now drink up and I will get us some food," he says downing his mead with a resounding thud and placing the empty mug on the counter.

Zephyra and Gris exchange a smile, clinking their mugs together one more time before downing the rest of their mead. Thoren hollers over to a nearby waitress, who nods and disappears into the kitchen.

The inn is filled with the usual patrons, a mix of humans, dwarves, and even a few elves. The air is thick with smoke from the many pipes and torches, and the scent of roasting meat and ale fills the room.

The inn is a warm and inviting space, with thick wooden tables and benches, and a large fireplace crackling merrily in the corner. The walls are adorned with tapestries and weapons, a testament to Thoren's many adventures and the eclectic mix of patrons he has hosted over the years.

As they wait for their food, Zephyra and Gris take a moment to look around the inn. Zephyra's eyes widen as she takes in the sight of the diverse crowd. "I've never seen so many different races in one place before," she whispers to Gris, her voice filled with awe.

"It's like walking into a storybook."

Gris smiles, her tusks flashing in the dim light of the inn. "That's the beauty of Highcliff Rock. It's a melting pot of cultures and species. Everyone is welcome here, as long as they behave."

Zephyra chuckles, her gaze scanning the room. "I can see that. But tell me, what do you think they're whispering about?"

She nods towards a group of humans huddled in the corner, their eyes flicking towards Zephyra and Gris every few seconds. Gris leans in, her voice low.
