The sky was the color of a sunrise, the ocean was the color of a sunset, and the sand was the color of twilight. I blinked. How did he do that? It was like a magic trick. And what was the game? A board game? A card game? A dice game? None of those, I realized, as I watched him play. I watched my sister talking to his girlfriend , and I wondered what was going on.

I was sitting on the beach, watching the waves crash against the rocks, when I saw him. "You lost, bro?" I asked, squinting up at him. He looked like he was made of clay, the way he swayed from side to side. "Why do you look like shit?"
