Chapter 28: Mirror Confessions
The fluorescent lights in the support group bathroom buzzed like trapped insects, casting a sickly green pallor over the scuffed linoleum and the peeling motivational poster urging, "Your Journey, Your Strength!" The air reeked of industrial bleach, unsuccessfully masking the faint, lingering tang of stale piss and anxiety. Ilda leaned heavily against the cold porcelain sink, the edge digging into her hip. Her G-cup breasts, mercifully un-milked for the moment, felt heavy and tender beneath her loose sweater. The echo of the group session’s shared confessions – the phantom pains, the societal bullshit, the awkwardness of dating – still vibrated in her bones.
The stall door beside her creaked open. Gemma emerged, her movements stiff, deliberate. Unlike Ilda’s vibrant chaos, Gemma was muted shades of grey – grey hoodie, grey sweatpants, grey expression. She shuffled to the sink next to Ilda, her eyes avoiding the mirror initially, fixed on the dripping tap.
"Rough one today, huh?" Ilda said, her voice raspier than usual. Her fingers unconsciously drifted down, finding the familiar, loose pouch of skin hanging empty against her mid-thigh. She gave it an absent-minded tug, feeling the cool, pliable texture. Habit.
Gemma grunted, a non-committal sound. Finally, she turned her head, her gaze meeting Ilda’s in the smudged mirror. They looked exhausted. Hollowed out. Her eyes flickered down, then back up. "Yeah. Always is." Her voice was flat, devoid of its usual brittle sarcasm.
Gemma sighed, long and low, the sound rattling like loose change in her chest. She finally turned fully towards the mirror, her reflection stark under the unforgiving glare. Her grey sweatpants slid down her hips just enough, revealing the smooth curve of her scrotum, surprisingly full-looking beneath the fabric.
"Still got the sack, at least," she muttered, her fingers tracing the outline through the soft cotton. She hooked her thumbs into the waistband, pulling it down a fraction further. "Doc offered the implants inside. Said it'd feel more... natural."
The silicone spheres nestled within her scrotum looked deceptively real, perfectly formed weights resting against her skin. But the giveaway was just above them: a tiny, shriveled nub of flesh, barely noticeable, a stark contrast to the plump illusion below. "Fucking bowling balls in there now," Gemma chuckled, a dry, humorless sound. Her fingertip brushed gently over one silicone implant, the movement almost reverent.
"Helps," she added softly, her voice losing its edge. "Gotta have somethin'." Her gaze flickered down to Ilda’s own loose, empty pouch hanging against her thigh. Ilda instinctively tugged at it, the thin skin cool and yielding. "Yeah," Ilda breathed, understanding washing over her. "The weight."
Gemma nodded, her eyes fixed on their reflections. "Exactly. The weight." She traced the edge of her silicone implant again, a ghost of a smile touching her lips before vanishing. "Some days," she confessed, her voice barely above the fluorescent buzz, "I just need to feel it. Between my thighs. Again." Her knuckle whitened where it pressed against the sink’s edge. "Even if it’s fake. Even knowing it’s just… plastic pretending." She paused, the sterile air thick with unspoken longing. "I miss the real weight."
The fluorescent hum seemed to throb in the silence after Gemma’s admission. Ilda watched the other shemale’s reflection, the way her knuckles were bone-white on the sink, the almost reverent touch on the fake weight. That hollow ache in her own belly, usually a low thrum, pulsed sharper, a phantom limb echoing Gemma’s loss. It wasn’t about function, not really; it was the sheer, simple presence of it.
"You wanna feel 'em?" Gemma asked abruptly, her voice rough as sandpaper. She didn’t wait for an answer. Her hand, cold and trembling slightly, reached out and gently guided Ilda’s fingertips towards the smooth bulge beneath her grey sweatpants. "Go on. It's okay."
Ilda’s breath hitched. Her own fingers, usually so busy with the loose, empty skin pouch dangling from her own thigh, hesitated just above the fabric. Then she pressed down. The silicone spheres beneath were cool, firm, unnervingly smooth. They held a convincing heft, a deep, anchoring pressure against Gemma’s body. A sigh escaped Gemma, almost a whimper, her eyes fluttering shut. "See?" she whispered. "Solid. Just... solid."
The sensation traveled up Ilda’s arm, a strange, comforting warmth blooming in her chest. For a dizzying second, she remembered it – the dense, vital weight of her own balls, the satisfying swing, the way it grounded her. That comforting fiction pressed against her hand was alluring. "Yeah," Ilda murmured, her voice thick. "Feels... substantial. Like it used to." The phantom ache briefly soothed, replaced by a pang of shared nostalgia. The weight would feel good. Familiar. A balm.
But her other hand, acting entirely on its own ingrained habit, tugged absently at the soft, empty sack of skin hanging against her own bare thigh. She felt the thinness, the way it folded and slid between her fingers like cool silk. A peculiar, almost mischievous pleasure sparked there, sharp and immediate. It was hers, this unique emptiness, this constant, intimate texture to fiddle with, to stretch and release. A strange kind of freedom, a tactile reminder of the accident and the unexpected, complicated peace she’d found since.
She pulled her hand back from Gemma’s sweatpants, her fingers tingling. "It would feel good," Ilda admitted, meeting Gemma’s hopeful, exhausted eyes in the mirror. "That solid bit. Comforting." She gave her own empty scrotum another deliberate, playful tug, feeling it yield. "But fuck, Gem. I kinda love playing with this stupid, empty bag too much." A weak, defiant grin touched her lips. "It’s weirdly... me now. Like a fucked-up stress ball."
Gemma stared at her, then a choked, surprised laugh burst out, raw and sharp in the sterile air. "A stress ball? Jesus, Ilda." She looked down at her own prosthetic fullness, then back at Ilda’s defiant emptiness being gently kneaded. "Only you." She shook her head, a flicker of bewildered respect in her tired eyes. both.
